After leaving the cafe, Callie had another dinner appointment to attend.
It was the project Eliza mentioned, the high-end hotel by the seaside. Several executives were personally attending, along with the investors of the project, so it was important for the person in charge to be present.
When Eliza handed the information to Callie for confirmation, she hesitated for a moment. “Are the investors related to the Oconnor Group?”
She was afraid that Nelson might be among the attendees, as he was capable of such things.
Eliza checked and replied, “No, they are not locals from Ylosea.”
With this confirmation, Callie felt relieved and confirmed her attendance.
The dinner was scheduled to take place at an archery range, as the investors had a liking for it. When Callie arrived, Eliza was already waiting outside with the documents.
“Are you coming alone?” Callie took a quick glance at the documents.
“Work should not involve personal feelings, so of course I am coming alone.”
Callie scanned her expression and continued reading the documents. “Ever since you came back from Anbusea, you’ve been impatient with Jade. What’s going on?”
Eliza’s insight was too accurate, causing her to feel guilty for a moment. “Nothing… I…”
“Jade is reliable and has great potential. In a couple of years, he will have everything he deserves. You just need to hold on to him.”
After Callie finished speaking, she closed the documents and confidently walked inside. For her subordinate, her words were enough.
Eliza hurriedly followed behind, whispering in agreement.
They arrived early, and there was no one in the designated venue. The lights were on, illuminating the spacious area with many targets in the distance.
All kinds of equipment were available, and refreshments were already prepared. Callie came out after changing her clothes, tying her hair up in a high ponytail, looking sharp and elegant.
They waited for a while but no one showed up.
Feeling bored, Callie wandered around and picked up a suitable bow and arrow. With full tension on the bowstring, she aimed at a target and released the arrow.
It hit the bullseye perfectly.
Eliza was astonished. “Callie, you know archery?”
Callie took another arrow. “I’ve never played before. This is my first time.”
She discovered that she had some talent for it.
Focusing on the target, she shot another arrow with a tense expression, repeating this several times.
Her mind was filled with what Joaquin had said today, and the images of Charlotte and Reuben kept swirling in her head, making her feel confused.
Just then, they heard heavy footsteps behind them, someone approaching.
Soon after, a familiar voice sounded coldly. “Miss Callie, you have impressive skills.”
Callie frowned, tensing her back. She hadn’t released the arrow yet as she slowly turned around with the bow and arrow in her hand. Several meters away stood a figure she recognized.
Her pupils contracted as she lost her grip on the arrow, which flew towards the person.
Someone exclaimed.
The arrow whizzed through the air and narrowly grazed the person’s ear.
“Jamir! Are you okay?” The others who were with him rushed forward in fear to check on him.
Jamir touched the shallow bloodstain on his ear with his fingertips and chuckled lightly. “You’re quite daring.”
Callie stood still, hands hanging down without any trace of remorse, but with a hint of indifference.
“Why are you here?”
Jamir took a step back as he looked at her, pulling out the arrow from the wall and slowly walked towards her. “I am an investor. Shouldn’t I be here?”
It was expected, but upon hearing his response, Callie’s vision darkened for a moment.
She knew it.
“Oh… Jamir knows Callie,” one of the executives who accompanied him noticed the situation and quickly added.
“Old friends,” Jamir smirked cunningly and stood in front of her, holding the arrow with both hands.
