At the same time, on the university campus, in the large office shared by the teachers, there were many potted plants adding a touch of green. Susan Clark had just hung up the phone with a thought in her mind. Just then, Ansel, who had just finished his class, walked in. He liked wearing black suits, which made him increasingly attractive as a mature man.
Seeing him brought joy to Susan’s heart. She tried hard to control her emotions and waited until Ansel sat down in the office chair beside her. Only then did she put down her phone, picked up her water cup, and turned to look at him. She extended an invitation, “Mr. Johnsons, are you free this Saturday?”
Ansel looked at her while organizing his desk, “What’s up?”
“I heard there’s an art exhibition on Saturday about left-behind children. Would you like to go see it together?” The girl spoke directly without beating around the bush. Her tone was calm, but she was extremely hopeful inside.
Ansel could already sense something before he even responded. Afraid that he might refuse, Susan quickly added with a smile, “I also invited other friends. If you’re interested, Mr. Johnsons, you’re welcome to join us.”
She said this to avoid any awkwardness for herself.
Ansel thought for a moment and nodded, “Sure.” He was quite interested in art exhibitions and made it a point to attend a few each year.
Hearing his affirmative response made Susan’s heart sweet. She liked Ansel and naturally hoped to spend more time with him. Sometimes she felt that Ansel might also have feelings for her but wasn’t sure because she had never explicitly said anything.
During this period, Ansel had already taken her to his father’s studio four times. For Susan, this was relatively intimate behavior, almost like taking her home since she had also met his father. His father was a kind and respectable artist whom Susan admired greatly.
It was already Thursday, so Saturday would come soon with only Friday in between. This day was filled with anticipation for Susan Clark. She got up early and hadn’t slept well the night before due to excitement.
She wore a new dress she bought yesterday, put on beautiful makeup, and styled her hair in a princess-like manner that made her look youthful and stunningly different from usual.
Ansel offered to pick her up since he knew she had just started working and hadn’t bought a car yet.
So at the agreed time, Susan went downstairs and appeared in Ansel’s sight in a very impressive manner.
“Good morning, Mr. Johnsons.” The girl greeted him warmly with an especially pure and beautiful smile on her face.
Seeing her today left Ansel momentarily dazed, “Good morning.” But he quickly regained his composure.
Susan knew she looked prettier than usual today; both her outfit and accessories were carefully chosen after following fashion bloggers.
“Get in the car,” Ansel said gentlemanly as he opened the passenger door for her.
“Thank you.” The girl got into the car.
Shortly after the car started, Agnes sent Susan a text message saying she had already set off. Looking at the message, Susan smiled slightly and replied: Okay, we just left too. See you soon.
Ansel’s place was closer, so when they arrived they didn’t wait in the car but got out and went to the entrance of the exhibition.
In the warm sunlight, Susan and Ansel stood side by side; they looked like a handsome couple.
After a while, a Volvo parked not far away. Tom and Agnes got out of the car. Tom walked around the car body and put his arm around his wife’s shoulder as they headed towards the exhibition entrance. He immediately saw the two standing there.
Ansel was there too!
“Hey! Over here!” Susan waved at them joyfully then turned to look at Ansel happily saying, “My good friend Agnes and her husband!”
