Chapter: Eighty-Eight

Book:Delta's Rejected Daughter Published:2025-2-19

Anthony and I have enjoyed going on our little adventures around Uncle Vladimir’s villa. I’ve shown him most of my favorite spots I like to go to when I am here. We’ve enjoyed our family time with Austin but it is quickly coming to a close. I was given two weeks when we got here for a vacation before I had to step into my royal duties.
We are slowly getting used to waking up during the night to take care of Austin. We now have it down to a science. It’s amazing how such a small individual can become such an important part of your life so fast. Mom, Dad, Daniel, and Rebecca have finally made it over here. Mom said she will take care of Austin for me while I step into my royal duties. I thought Mom would have her own duties she needed to attend to but she said she would take care of Austin.
Uncle Vladimir called a Family Meeting with Dad, Daniel, and me in his office.
We had a family meeting with Uncle Vladimir to discuss when Danny would take over his Position/Title from him. Things are starting to get real here folks.
“So, Daniel have you given it any further thought when you are willing to take my position-the Kings Second in Command-from me?” inquired Uncle Vladimir.
“I’ve been talking it over with Rebecca and we haven’t come to a decision yet. Are you sure you want me to take the role Uncle Vladimir? Wouldn’t Melanie be a better fit for the position given her experience?” inquired Danny.
“Wait, What? Why are you trying to give me the position Danny? I’ve already got the position of Delta of the Brookwood Pack,” I asked him point blank.
“Daniel, you don’t want to be Duke anymore? I thought we discussed this already. I was hoping you would take the position by the time you were 25 years old. You have some time but I wanted you to think about it,” assured Uncle Vladimir.
“I know but … now that we have Hunter …” paused Danny. He was having a hard time explaining how he felt about moving to Europe. He didn’t want to leave Rebecca’s family behind. He didn’t know how to explain everything to Dad and Uncle Vladimir.
“Danny, what’s the real issue? What’s going on? Talk to us so we can help you,” encouraged Dad.
“We don’t want to leave the U. S. anymore. It would leave Rebecca’s family behind. They wouldn’t be able to come visit Hunter that often and I don’t want to cause a rift between them. I don’t know what to do anymore. She has a sister and two brothers. They all have children. They live in different packs so it’s not like we can easily transplant them somewhere else. Do you see my dilemma Dad?” explained Danny.
“Yes son I do. Melanie has already taken the Oath of Delta at the Brookwood Pack. Are you telling me that we should have had you take that Oath and have her take this position from your Uncle?” inquired Dad.
“I don’t know Dad. We’ve always known she was going to be Delta of the Brookwood Pack. Being a parent has changed things for us. Our priorities have changed and now Rebecca isn’t so sure about wanting to move to Europe,” explained Danny to everyone.
Fan-freaking-tastic. After my rejection, I wanted to let Danny take the Delta position but Dad reminded me that I was always destined to be the Delta. Now, we are back to the drawing board again. Yes, I am a Dutchess by birth. I am not a Dutchess in a Position of Authority. That was always supposed to be Danny.
Our conversation wasn’t going anywhere. Dad suggested we adjourn our meeting and we talk more about it after Sophia’s coronation. Also, he wanted time to talk one-on-one with Rebecca to find out what was really going on.
Mom greeted us as we came out of the office with Austin. She said it was time for him to be fed again. I excused myself so I could find a secluded location to feed him. I was still learning how to pump milk in order to have some extra when I am not readily available. Being a new mother isn’t as easy as most people make it out to be.
I was still thinking about everything that was said in the meeting when Anthony came into the library.
“There you are, my love. How was the meeting?” inquired Anthony as he came over to me.
“It was okay. Hello, my love,” I replied as I kissed him on the lips.
“You look a little troubled. Anything I can help you with? Do you need anything?” asked Anthony as he gazed into my jade-green eyes.
“Well, the meeting was about when Danny wanted to assume Uncle Vladimir’s position. Now, Danny’s not so sure he and Rebecca want to move to Europe to assume his role. They don’t want to alienate Rebecca from her family. She has a sister and two brothers who all have children. There’s a real concern,” I softly stated as I sighed as Austin finished nursing.
I began to burp him. I once again was lost in thought when Anthony said, “Do they want us to take Uncle Vladimir’s position and Danny take your position?”
“Hmm? Oh, sorry I was lost in thought again. I’m not sure what’s going to happen. Dad wants a chance to talk with Rebecca to see what’s really going on. Hey, are you ready to see the inside of the Castle? You’ll get to see it tomorrow when we go. I have to start my royal duties tomorrow. Mom is coming with so I can still feed Austin when it’s time. We will start practicing the coronation tomorrow as well,” I exclaimed excited to show Anthony what it was like to be a European Royal member.
“I can’t wait to see it. What will I be doing tomorrow? Any idea?” asked Anthony.
“I’m not sure but I know they have something planned for you to do my love,” I cooed as I pulled him close for a kiss with my free hand. “I love you, Anthony. Always remember that,” I cooed.
“I love you too, Mellie. Forever and ever,” purred Anthony as he wrapped his arms around Austin and me.
I simply sighed as I felt his love through the mate bond. Holding Austin and being held by Anthony, I know I am home. No matter where I am in the world, I am home as long as I am with Anthony and my son.
