Chapter Sixteen

Book:Delta's Rejected Daughter Published:2025-2-19

Dad said he knew of a construction crew that could reconstruct our building for us in the time frame we needed. He said he would contact them and set up a meeting as soon as possible. Thank you, Dad. Now, I am once again excited about becoming the Delta of my pack.
I called Allison and told her I was working from home today. If she needed me for anything, to call me. I was setting up my gift for the pack. She understood loud and clear what that meant so she simply said, ‘no problem’ and let it go. She heard the excitement in my voice.
Seeing and hearing my excitement thrilled my Dad. I think this may have been what saved me and he knew it as well as the Alpha. My pet project for the pack brought me out of my funk and back into reality with a passion.
Anderson and Noah had no problem staying close to home as well. They could be closer to their mates. When they saw the excitement and pep in my step, they wanted to know what had ignited my passion. So, I told them. They were excited and couldn’t wait to help me with the project as well.
I worked in Dad’s home office while he worked in his office at the pack house. Dad called me to let me know we had a meeting tomorrow morning at Ten o’clock with ‘his guys’ to discuss what I wanted and to visit the building. Everything was starting to fall into place.
The next morning, we met with the Grey’s Construction at the pack house. Of course, they were owned by wolves. We met in the conference room so that we could include the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma in the conversation.
I showed Henry Grey what my vision was, which was the mockup on paper, and then we went to the building we were going to use. He listened and took notes on everything. We went back to the conference room where we waited for him to say whether I was crazy or stupid for thinking I could do something like this. Instead, he surprised us all.
“Melanie, first of all, let me say I like your mockup design on paper. It shows you put a lot of thought into this process. Second of all, the building that the Alpha gave you to use is perfect for what you want to use it for. Third, I can have the project completed within a month and a half. Just in time for your Oath of Delta ceremony. Do you have any questions so far?” Henry Grey asked us.
I was stunned. He can have it completed on time. Dad looked at me and smiled.
“When can you start?” was my question to Mr. Grey.
“I can have my company come out and take pictures of the building as it is now. Do a mockup of what you want and present it to you for approval. Then, we can redesign the inside of the building. It will be easy since we don’t have to do very much on the inside,” Mr. Grey stated.
“Sounds like a plan. Thank you, Mr. Grey,” I exclaimed as I stood up and presented my hand for him to shake.
“A pleasure Delta heir Melanie. Alpha Richard, may I have my people come out today to take pictures of the building so we can create our plans for the building?” inquired Henry Grey.
“Absolutely. Call my Beta with the names of those who will be coming out and we will make it happen. Thank you for your assistance Mr. Grey,” praised Alpha Richard.
“You are most welcome. Thank you for thinking about us Delta Troy. I will be in touch hopefully by tomorrow or the day after with plans in hand for you to approve,” advised Mr. Grey as the meeting drew to a close.
“Thank you, Mr. Grey. Beta Micah will see you out,” Alpha Richard declared as the rest of us remained seated.
We all waited for Beta Micah to return before we spoke again. We had snacks in the conference room, so I helped myself to some. Everyone noticed that I looked and acted happier than I had in the past month.
Beta Micah came back into the conference room and had a seat. “Melanie, if I may say, you look happy today. I’m glad to see you looking this way again,” Beta Micah announced to everyone in the room with a grin on his face.
“I know right? I liked seeing her smile again and it reached her eyes. I missed seeing her like this,” my dad explained to everyone with his own grin.
Now, I have a blush creeping across my cheeks at being called out. “Dad! You know why I’m happy. I’m excited for this project. I can’t wait to present this to the pack.” I exclaimed to everyone in the room with a huge smile on my face with a sparkle in my eyes.
“Well, for whatever the reason, I’ll take it. I’ve missed seeing you smile and seeing you happy. I’m glad we could give you a reason to be happy again. I didn’t like seeing you teary-eyed or sullen every time I saw you,” declared Alpha Richard.
“Thank you, Alpha. I can’t wait to get started on this project. I’m going to order the cameras and all the equipment we need today so it’s ready and waiting to be installed. Is there anything I need to do while we wait?” I asked Alpha Richard.
“Not that I know of. I think you have everything handled. You can go about your normal duties Melanie. I know you have work to attend to,” Alpha Richard dismissed me.
“Yes Alpha,” I replied and I left the conference room.
I felt good about the project. The project is now set in motion. Mr. Grey is going to have pictures taken so we can have plans drawn up for us to approve. Then, they will redesign the inside of the building to suit our needs. I couldn’t be happier.
I went home to begin my day at work. I know I had several e-mails from the commander of the government surveillance job. He had already texted me and told me I needed to read those as soon as possible.
He was right, upon reading the e-mails, I had to contact the Alpha King to appraise him of the situation. We had a break-in at one of our surveillance houses. The local police were called by neighbors. The situation had been handled by the commander on site, but still, the Alpha King had to be notified because wolves and humans were involved. It was a very delicate situation.
The Alpha King once again apologized for his son’s comments. He said that he had disciplined his son for his disrespectful comments and he was very sorry. I explained that I understood that not every pack believed as we did but it was okay. I just hoped that I could prove my worth to everyone in the end.
In the end, I was doing what I did best, my job. I put my pack first, which is what I was doing with my project. Now, I was concentrating on the reports that needed my attention. I prided myself on paying attention to the details. I needed to continue to do so to prove all the naysayers wrong.
By dinner time, I was tired and I wanted to take a bath, but my wolf wanted to run. I asked Alpha Richard if I could take a run after dinner tonight. He granted me permission along with Anderson and Noah.
My run lasted for about an hour. I needed the run but I needed the connection to nature more. When I arrived back home I headed back up to my room for a bath. The bath was wonderful and relaxing. When I finally made it to bed, I didn’t cry myself to sleep. I drifted off into a blissful sleep for the first time since my rejection.
