Chapter Seven

Book:Delta's Rejected Daughter Published:2025-2-19

The trip to the Lakewood Pack was uneventful. I didn’t know what I was expecting. We pulled into a horseshoe driveway in front of a beautiful cream-colored pack house that was five stories high. It reminded me of a five-star hotel you would see on a beach somewhere in California.
Standing out front was a line of people to greet us. Alpha Richard reminded us through the pack link to be on our best behavior. We all exited our vehicles and lined up like we always did.
“Welcome to the Lakewood Pack Alpha Richard of the Brookwood Pack. It is a pleasure to have you and your pack members with us. May I introduce my Beta Mason, my Gamma Axel, and my Delta Myles? Please introduce us to your pack members,” declared Alpha Tucker.
“Thank you Alpha Tucker for inviting us here. I have brought with me my Delta Troy Miller, his heir Melanie, and his son Daniel,” Alpha Richard responded with pride on his face.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Delta Troy. I have heard much about you Delta heir Melanie as I have you, Daniel. I cannot wait to see either of you in action. I understand you are both excellent warriors and have much to offer in our training program. Let us adjourn inside. We have lunch prepared for you all. If you will, please follow me,” beamed Alpha Tucker as he led us into his pack house.
We all followed Alpha Tucker and Beta Mason into his dining room for lunch. I was seated between my father and brother but across from Beta Mason. I noticed as we ate, that Beta Mason kept looking at me as if he wanted to say something but didn’t. It was weird.
After lunch, we were shown to our suite. Then, we were told we would meet with their Delta to go over his needs. Delta Myles needed help getting organized since the last Delta clearly was not good at any sort of record keeping. Daniel simply chuckled because he knew I couldn’t stand disorganization of any kind.
“What am I missing” asked an amused Delta Myles.
“My sister doesn’t like disorganization,” explained Daniel who was still chuckling at me.
“Ha, ha. Now, can we start helping him? Why you feel the need to laugh at my expense I don’t know. I’m an organizer. I can’t help it. Always have been. Now, let’s see what we’re working with. Shall we?” I advised as I tried to get us back on track.
“Yes, we shall,” snickered Delta Myles as he showed me what I was dealing with.
We spent the next two hours, all three of us, organizing his files and getting things situated. We even updated his computer program to better optimize the protection of the pack. Before we knew it, it was the end of the workday. I hadn’t even done the first task for my normal job. Yikes.
We were all called to dinner. We sat in the same places as lunch. I told Dad that I didn’t accomplish anything for our company today and he said it was okay. Color me surprised. He was happy that Delta Myles was allowing me and Daniel to help him out, together.
The dinner conversation centered around what the rest of the week would look like. Training would be at 6 AM with breakfast being at 8 AM. Then we would start our workday at 9 AM etc. At the end of dinner, Beta Mason asked if we had plans for the evening.
“Melanie, Daniel, what are your plans for the evening?” Beta Mason inquired with a straight face.
“I have no plans tonight other than going back to the suite,” Daniel replied.
“I was going to take a bath and read a book,” I replied.
“Well, would you two like to hang out with a few of us in the media room? We’re going to watch a movie together,” Beta Mason advised as he looked from Daniel to me.
Dad linked that this was Beta Mason trying to get to know us on a personal level and we should take him up on it.
“What kind of movie are you going to watch,” I inquired hesitantly.
“Well, it hasn’t been decided yet. We usually decide as a group when we get there. Can we count you in tonight?” wondered Beta Mason.
“I’ll be there. What time is movie time?” I asked with a grin.
“We won’t start the movie until about 8 o’clock. We normally dress in our pajamas or wear sweats, you know comfortable clothes,” explained Beta Mason. “I’ll even come get you at the suite if you want me to.”
“Okay, that would be nice. Thank you,” I replied as we got up from the table.
Daniel told me through our link that he would go with me as a buffer because he wanted to make sure no one tried anything with me. Gee thanks a lot baby brother. I know no one is going to try anything with me.
Arriving at our suite, I took a shower and changed into a pair of sweatpants with a sports bra, T-shirt, and shorts underneath. Then, I put on a pair of fuzzy socks with my slippers. He did say to go comfortable, right?
When I emerged from my room wearing my slippers with my fuzzy socks peeking out, my brother burst into hysterical, howling laughter. My Dad was laughing too.
“What? He said to dress comfortably. I did. Do I not wear fuzzy socks at home to watch movies?” I inquired of my dad and brother.
“Well, yes you do, but don’t you want to make a good impression on them since one of them could be your mate?” chuckled Dad.
“I’m just being real. I’m being me. I don’t pretend for anyone. You know that Dad,” I teased as I went over to give him a hug and a kiss. “Besides, it’s best they know who the real me is upfront. That way, it gets rid of the expectations.”
“That’s my sister,” Daniel exclaimed as there was a knock at the door. “That should be Beta Mason. Let’s go.”
Daniel opened the door to reveal Beta Mason in sweatpants and a T-shirt. “Are you coming with us?” he asked Daniel.
“Yes, I’m coming with. Melanie, come on, let’s go,” Daniel called out motioning me to come on.
Beta Mason raised an eyebrow when he saw my fuzzy socks with my slippers. He didn’t say anything but simply watched me walk on by.
“What? Don’t hate because you didn’t wear yours.” I stated as I continued to walk by him.
Daniel and Beta Mason shared a look between them before they caught up with me. We entered the recreation room which had about twenty wolves in it already. Everyone seemed to be in varying stages of comfortable dress-shorts only, sweatpants only, T-shirts and shorts. I seemed to be the only one that was overdressed. It didn’t bother me one bit.
Beta Mason quickly introduced us to everyone. One of the she-wolves loved my fuzzy socks and slippers. She wished she wore hers. I liked her already. Her name was Lily. She was glad I was here to start training them.
I now have a new best friend here in the pack.
As everyone got comfortable, Beta Mason stood front and center to ask the all-important question, “What movie are we watching tonight?”
“I thought it was comedy this week?” one wolf called out.
“No way, we watched comedy last week. Remember?” another called out.
“Why don’t we let our guests decide what kind of movie we watch this week,” someone else called out.
“I think that’s a good idea. Melanie and Daniel, what kind of movie would you like to watch tonight?” Beta Mason asked us.
I looked at Daniel who looked at me and we both just shrugged our shoulders. ‘Why are they asking us? I haven’t really watched a movie in a long time. I don’t know. You pick the movie, Danny,’ I linked my brother.
“Um, we’re not really picky when it comes to movies. Melanie doesn’t really go to the movies. So, whatever you decide would be okay with us,” Daniel explained to everyone.
“Way to be vague there Danny boy,” someone yelled out.
“Hey, weren’t we watching The Last Kingdom. I think we were on Season 3, why don’t we pick up there? I want to see what happens with Uhtred,” one of the she-wolves called out.
“Really! I thought we decided you were going to watch that on your own Stacey,” someone called out rather annoyed with her.
“Uhtred of Bebbanburg, I haven’t seen that series in a long time,” I piped up with a silly smirk on my face.
My brother let out a long breath. “Why did she have to mention Uhtred,” Danny mumbled more to himself than to anyone else.
“I guess we’re watching The Last Kingdom,” Beta Mason announced hearing moans and groans from several pack members.
Stacey and I had a silly grin on our faces-Uhtred is gorgeous and he is one hell of a fighter. I could watch him all night long with no problem. I snuggled close to my brother on the couch.
At the end of the evening, I had agreed to hang out with them again tomorrow night. This group is not bad at all. It was kind of nice to just hang out and not be expected to be politically correct all the time.
