Xavier’s POV
“What!! Are you serious?”
“Yes, the drunk told them they saw you, maybe it’s someone close to them if they are being questioned, so they are watching you and…”
“And what??? Come on talk”
“And Laura ”
“Shit!! Damnit!!! Okay I get it I will lay low for now, fuck it!!”
“Good, don’t let this weaken you, you are smart so act smart, don’t act like you are running away or notice something, act like you are really clueless and don’t ever wear anything you wore that day, better still get rid of it”
“Okay man, thank you, I know you are busy because of your company’s launch party so I will do my thing, thank you a lot ”
“No problem, you are my friend so we got each others back”
“I know, bye then , Laura greets”
“Greet her back and we invite you to the double date, Jessica said she misses Laura ”
“Okay then we are coming, bye man”
We ended the call, I know Mike he is smart and collected but the mention of Laura’s name makes him weak and irrational and I hope he will get his wits together, because one thing I know about is that she is a strong lady.
Work continued as usual after I was done with late lunch, the amount of department heads that had trouped into my office today is so far the biggest since this year, if it’s not submitting a document it will be signing something, well it gladdens my heart that they are really doing a lot for the company’s launch party.
I called Jessica to tell her I would work overnight,
“Hello babe”
“Hello there Xavier ”
“How are you doing? ”
“Good and you, how is work treating you over there, I heard it’s hectic?”
“Yes, it’s hectic and am good”
“How hectic?”
“I won’t be able to pick you up after work, can you go home alone?”
“Owwh, that bad? Don’t worry I will be fine okay, just concentrate on work okay?”
“Okay, be careful, our ally at Marcus’s side came today to deliver a very important tip and we need everyone to be very careful to ”
“Okay, I hope it’s nothing serious ”
“It is depending on them, they found out Mike was there at the party and not as a guest”
“Did you….. Did you tell Mike?”
“I did and he is taking precautions already”
“Okay, that’s good, I really hope he told Laura already ”
“He did ”
“Okay, thank God he did, I will leave you to your work now, do take care okay and be careful too”
“I will love, good bye ”
“You too bye”
Speaking to her removed a lot of stress from my mind, I felt like I drank two cans of energy drink, I started working again.
Mike’s POV
After my call with Xavier I was so lost and didn’t know what to do, a simple mistake I made has now turned to this, I have already told Laura about it and she said she is being careful but I can’t help being worried.
“Duu, Duu, Duu”
My phone vibrated in my pocket, I hurriedly pulled it out, but it was an unknown number, I deliberated between picking the call or ignoring it, but I still angered trying to even my voice as much as I could.
I picked it up and put it on my left ear,
“Hello, Mike from M’s security company, how many I help you?”
I am proud of myself that I was able to compose myself, (you did a good job Mike)
“Hello Mike”
“Who is this?”
“Surprised that you didn’t recognise my voice after you raided my house ”
“Raided your house? Who the hell are you?”
“Remember the house you raided to find something that is none of your business and you don’t recognise my voice ”
“You must either be drunk man or high on something because I don’t know what you are talking about, I never raided any house and if you don’t mind , am busy, good bye”
I hanged up the call on Marcus’s father, I slumped to the ground tired, I feel like twenty years of my life just got drained with that phone call, Xavier was right, they really don’t know if I did raid the house or not, thank God I am smart.
I called Laura immediately to know where she is, I trust her to be able to protect herself but I can’t help be worried, she is my wife to be.
Marcus’s father POV
I tapped my fingers on the table one after the other, I removed the phone from my ear, this was why I didn’t want to believe that drunkard, but that useless son of mine said to trust him, if Xavier was really the one that invaded my house and found those files, I would be in court now but nothing had happened yet, am sure it was Marcus who did because the camera though not clear captured him and I saw him creeping out like the creep he is.
I had to make that call to confirm what he told me that he said the fool saw and I know Mike isn’t smart enough, he was bound to trip if he is the guilty one, I had watched them grow up so I know what to say to get who talking, and I know that’s stupid Marcus is trying to double cross me.
“Hello Marcus come to the study right now ”
“Dad, am here, what is it?”
I didn’t let him finish, I gave him my back hand to kiss, he fell like the weakling he is.
“Dad what did I do?”
“You are a weakling and a fool, who told you to search my house?”
“I told you it wasn’t me dad, it was Marcus ”
“I saw you, I saw you leave my study and you dare lie toy face, and what are you going to did with what you found, huh?!”
