Xavier’s POV.
We went with my car as usual and I dropped her off at her company, she kissed me goodbye, which I made to turn into a full blown kiss, am starting to love my tinted glasses.
“Xavier ”
“Yes, babe, now go on in, will come pick you after work ”
“Okay, oh I almost forgot, here take this, I made lunch for you, a little bird told me you skip lunch a lot, make sure you eat it without leaving any crumbs ”
“Sure ma’am, anything for my babe”
“Bye”
I nodded and drove off to my own company and working place while grinning like an idiot.
Work was really hectic, the whole office was bustling and hustling, the company will be having a launching party soon, there is a new project we are collaborating with another company (Collin’s father’s company ) to do, so all hands was on the deck.
“So this is what the marketing team came up with?”
“Yes sir, I have gone through it and it looks good and matches the project theme ”
“Yes, it’s good but they need to improve it a little more, we need this project to create a buzz, very big buzz ”
“Why?”
“Because it will make people aware of the project, and it will be famous once it’s done and we need to also draw people’s attention towards our latest car production ”
“Okay sir will tell them”
“They just need to improve here, this place and here, you can go now ”
I said while marking the place with my pencil, it’s a nice draft but it needs improving,
“Okay sir”
He left and I continued with approving and making a proposal for the launch, this launch needs to be successful because of the newest car, it’s just like my own but with improved gadgets and parts, it’s only made fifty pieces and will be sold at a very high price of eleven million dollars, the sports car is made unlimited and will be sold for six million dollars.
The day after the first car will be launched, it will be sold on a car runaway show like an auction and will be sold more to only fifty people but if one really wants to own it after it’s all sold out, they pay more and can also customise it to their taste.
Going close to after midday and the work is still suffocating me, I unintentionally skipped lunch so I need some energy to keep going, so I warmed the dishes that Jess gave me with my office microwave and started eating.
“Knock, knock, knock ”
“Come in”
The door opened and the familiar bulky guy came in, I wasn’t expecting him at all, I continued eating my food, didn’t know I was this hungry till now,
“I wasn’t expecting you”
“Yes, I know but am just here to warn you won’t be here for long”
“Okay, I would have invited you to join me but the food wouldn’t be enough for me alone talk more of you and I”
“No problem, I ate before coming here, food isn’t my problem now ”
Glad it isn’t because am not sharing this golden food my wife made with anyone no matter what.
“So what’s the issue”
“It’s Marcus father, he found Mike your friend was involved in breaking into his home, don’t ask me how I don’t know, seems like someone saw him that night”
“How is that possible?”
“He is the best person to answer that question, if he came out or not and if he is involved it means you are too”
“I know ”
“Fir now it’s only a suspicion, he hasn’t confirmed anything though he dismissed it but I know he is not letting it go, so you guys should be careful especially this coming auction, don’t eat anything or drink anything you were given there”
“Okay, thank you again for your information, we told the police about you hope it’s okay”
“No problem as long as they don’t call me for interrogation or anything that will make me go there”
“Okay, that’s cool by me and probably them”
“Okay, am done and tell him to protect his girlfriend because Marcus’s father has been known for playing dirty all the time”
“I will tell him everything you said ”
I watched as he left while closing my door gently, I called Mike immediately after am sure he left, he picked up on second ring,
“What’s sup?”
“This isn’t time for pleasantries ”
“Yoo, what is it?”
“Yoo?? Have you gone crazy or something?”
“Okay fine, what is it?”
“That day we sneaked into Marcus’s house, did anyone see you?”
“I doubt, I was feeling really pressed so I went to the bathroom but am sure I saw nob… What the fuck I remember, a drunk was there lying on the floor ”
“Seems it was the drunk that saw you, that’s better but you need to opt out of this operation for now, you are on their radar”
“What!! Are you serious?”
“Yes, the drunk told them they saw you, maybe it’s someone close to them if they are being questioned, so they are watching you and…”
“And what??? Come on talk”
“And Laura ”
“Shit!! Damnit!!! Okay I get it I will lay low for now, fuck it!!”
“Good, don’t let this weaken you, you are smart so act smart, don’t act like you are running away or notice something, act like you are really clueless and don’t ever wear anything you wore that day, better still get rid of it”
“Okay man, thank you, I know you are busy because of your company’s launch party so I will do my thing, thank you a lot ”
“No problem, you are my friend so we got each others back”
“I know, bye then , Laura greets”
“Greet her back and we invite you to the double date, Jessica said she misses Laura ”
“Okay then we are coming, bye man”
We ended the call, I know Mike he is smart and collected but the mention of Laura’s name makes him weak and irrational.
