Jessica’s POV
I went out earlier to get some fruits, the Doctor said grandfather can eat when he wakes up again.
I steeped out from the elevator and headed towards father’s room, apart from the unfortunate event the last time, I have never been at the hospital because am a healthy kid growing up to became an even healthier adult.
I walked into the room and sat beside father’s bed, I brought out the apples, washed it and started cutting them, Xavier wasn’t in the room when I came in.
I heard rustling and it was father waking up, I pressed the buzzer and a doctor with two nurses came in after checking up on him, they left telling me he is fine, father tried to sat up and I rushed to him and helped, putting a pillow behind his back for comfort.
“How long have I been hospitalised ?”
“It’s five days now”
“Five days? Normally in movies you wake up after five years or two years, why is my own just days”
“Father!!! Stop saying that, Xavier will get hurt if he hears that”
“By the way, where is he?”
“I don’t know but am sure he hasn’t gone far, he has refused to leave your side ever since you are in the hospital ”
“Is that so?”
“Okay then”
“Are you hungry? I bought some fruits for you and am just done cutting the apples ”
“Okay, I will have it”
“Okay, should I feed you?”
“No, I will eat by myself, you and Xavier have been behaving like am dying or am I?”
“Father, noohh, am just asking since you might not have strength in your hand but seems like you are okay, here have it, let me cut other fruits ”
“Okay”
I stayed with him, cutting fruits for him to eat, the door opened and Xavier came in trailing behind him is Mike and Laura, they were carrying fruits baskets and flowers.
“Grandfather, you are awake already ”
“Yes, I am, you sound too disappointed ”
“Seems you are feeling better now since you want to fight just after you wake up”
“Mike, won’t you introduce to me that lovely lady behind you, is that your wife your father has been talking about?”
“Good morning uncle, yes, she is but we haven’t gotten married yet”
“Then you must be engaged right?”
“Huh, what are you waiting for then, your children this days feel as though marriage is a sin, why do have to make us the bad that is forcing you to get married?”
“No Uncle, it isn’t like that, Laura this is my uncle, Xavier’s grandfather and Uncle this is Laura my fiancee ”
“Good morning and nice to meet you Mr McCartney ”
“Haa, what a nice girl but don’t call me so formally, call me uncle just like Mike here okay, no need to be so stiff, we like you already and we accept you into our family so just call me uncle ”
“Okay, then uncle”
“Good girl”
I smiled watching them as they discuss, I looked at Xavier and I caught him looking at me just in time, we averted our gaze from each other, I blushing, I felt my heat drop to my tummy and the pounding is really deafening my eyes.
Its not going to be easy to avoid him since we live, sleep and eat together
“So Laura have you met Jessica”
“Yes sir we have met ”
“Hi Laura ”
“Hi Jess ”
We both sat together as theen continued their discussion, she washed her hand and helped me in peeling and cutting fruits
“I saw the way you and Xavier looked at each other awhile ago”
I turned to look at her in such a flash that I was sure my neck would have snapped if it wasn’t so strong.
“It’s nothing, we…. we were just… we were just greeting each other”
“Just greeting? I saw the way Xavier was looking at you like you are his whole world”
“Huhhh!! You can’t be serious Laura ”
“Believe what you think but am pretty sure he likes you ”
“….”
I didn’t say anything, it want like I can say, I just looked at Xavier and saw him looking at me and smiled, I smiled back my cheeks tainting with red.
COLLIN’S POV
I took out my phone as I left the restaurant I went to and dialed a number, the owner picked it up, his voice gutteral like someone having sex
“Why are you calling me?”
“Yes it’s about the McCartney family, it’s true, the grandfather is sick”
“How did you find out, the media said it wasn’t anything serious, just fatigue”
“You surprise me by your words, you are acting like you don’t know that these families will never expose their affairs to the world ”
“Okay, then what is sick with, is it serious ”
“Yes, it is as a matter of fact, he had surgery, I got the information from Mrs McCartney herself ”
“Haa, looks like the girl still has the hots for you, okay alright then, so I will tell you what to do next”
“Okay then, bye ”
I ended the call and pulled out a cigarette from my pocket and lighted it, I inhaled it and puffed out a stream of white smoke, it felt good and I smiled to myself.
(It’s just a matter of time till I get Jessica back before she was worth nothing but now she worth’s a ton, let me see if my father won’t give me the company instead of that stupid woman that calls herself my sister )
I smiled at myself, Jessica is worth a lot of money, she might not know but anyone who knows the inner workings of Xavier will know that the media company in just Xavier’s own from outsiders perspective but it’s actually Jessica’s own in name and everything.
