Xavier’s POV
Hearing the surprise in her voice made me laugh.
“Yes, I am the CEO of Metro Empire,” I said to her with a smirk on my face.
She still looked shocked.
She still couldn’t take in the news, so she blurted out.
“So your grandfather is the, and you are the, and I am the wife of the…”
“Slow down, Jessica,” I said as I stood up from my seat.
She was uttering the words so fast that when she stopped she had to catch her breath.
I rushed towards her and set her gently in the chair in front of my table.
Then I hurried to the mini fridge in my office, got a bottle of water, and poured some for her in a glass.
I couldn’t help but smile.
Seeing her react this way pleased me a lot, which was weird.
It was like I was getting attached to the woman before me, and that was something I never planned on doing.
“Thank you,” She said to me after drinking the water.
“You’re welcome,” I said and walked back to my seat.
She stared at me with an intensity that could drill a hole into me.
“What?” I asked.
“Nothing,” She said nonchalantly and looked away.
But I knew she was just pretending and that she had something to say.
“Tell me, what’s going on in your mind?” I asked.
She was silent for a few seconds, then she turned towards me and started again.
“I still can’t believe it. Metro Empire is the number one company in the country and I am the wife of its CEO,” She said and snickered. “That’s unbelievable.”
I was confused.
“I don’t get you, what exactly is unbelievable? The fact that I am Metro Empire’s CEO or the fact that you are my wife?” I asked.
I needed to get what she was saying.
“Well, the fact that I am your wife,” she said, and I couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
“I mean, think about it. An intern, whose fiance dumped her now turns out to be the wife of a rich CEO,” She said and laughed. “That sounds like a fairytale story.”
I was speechless.
I can’t believe she still looks down on herself.
Here I was thinking that after the few days that we had been married, she would be a lot more confident in herself.
But I was wrong.
For some reason, I wanted to help her restore that confidence.
“What?” She asked after noticing that I was staring at her.
“Nothing?” I said. “So what do you want to know about the CEO of Metro Empire? Let’s start the interview.”
I needed to distract myself.
“Oh that’s right, let’s start,” She said as she pulled out the things she needed from her bag.

I turned around, hoping to see where Mike was sitting.
We had agreed to meet here in the evening.
I pulled out my phone from my bag and dialed his number.
In less than five seconds, he picked up.
“Where the heck are you, Mike?” I asked him.
“We are at VIP section number 8,” He said.
“We,” I muttered as I turned to the direction of the section he spoke of.
He was sitting with some of his weird friends.
They were celebrities in the entertainment industry.
I hated sitting with them because they loved drinking and having fun with girls.
But I had no choice, I had promised Mike that I would be hanging out with him today.
I walked towards the VIP section.
“If it isn’t the prince of the country,” One of Mike’s weird friends said out loud.
I sat next to Mike without replying to the weirdo.
“Sorry about that Zach, I’m sure Xavier had a bad day at work,” He said as he laughed nervously.
He was trying to make an excuse to cover up for my rudeness.
“I understand, I’m sure he has the whole world on his shoulder,” The blonde dude said sarcastically.
But I didn’t say anything back.
I didn’t care.
Instead, I was thinking about Jessica.
Mike was wrong, I had an amazing day at work.
Seeing Jessica doing what she loved made me happy.
Besides I have to admit, I was impressed.
I’ve never been the one to like being interviewed, but with Jessica I loved it.
But something else bothered me.
Just then Mike said something to me, pulling me out of my thoughts.
“What are you thinking about?” He asked.
I looked away and said, “Nothing.”
“And you expect me to believe that?” He asked with a brow raised.
I couldn’t help but laugh.
“It’s obvious you’re thinking about something very…” He said and then stopped halfway.
His eyes looked like they were about to pop out of his face, then he whispered to my hearing.
“Are you thinking about Mrs. Jessica McCartney,” He asked.
I laughed again.
Mike was someone I couldn’t hide anything from.
He knew me like the back of his palm.
“That reminds me, how was the interview?” He asked me.
“It was cool,” I said to him.
He then gave me a suspicious look.
“What?” I asked him.
He was silent for a while as he wore the same look on his face.
“Spill it out?” I said to him.
“Well, I have never seen you being short of words before,” He said to me.
And he was right.
Normally I have a lot to say about everything, but now, I don’t know what to say.
“Seriously dude, tell me, how was it?” He asked again.
I guess I’ll have no choice but to say it.
“I don’t know man, it’s just that, I feel different when I’m with her,” I said to him.
“Different? in what way?” He asked.
“I’m not sure, it’s just that, her smile, how she turns red when my fingers brush her skin unintentionally, how…”
“Jessica,” Mike muttered, interrupting me.
“Yes, I mean her,” I said to him.
But he wasn’t paying attention.
“No,” He said.
He had his eyes somewhere else.
I followed his gaze towards another VIP section, and my eyes widened in surprise.
“Gosh she’s so hot,” Mike said.
