Rosalind decided to be honest with Malcolm, both to prepare him mentally and to avoid upsetting Ulric.
Ulric was particularly sensitive about matters related to Malcolm.
As they drove towards Malcolm’s residence, Rosalind attempted several times to start a conversation, trying to lighten the atmosphere and avoid an awkward situation later on. However, she couldn’t find the right words to say.
Just before they arrived, Ulric finally spoke in a low voice, “Don’t worry. I promised not to argue with him.” He paused for a moment and then added, “For the sake of the children.”
“That’s good.” Rosalind finally breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at him. “Can you treat Malcolm as if he were my own brother?”
“I can, but can he treat you like his own sister?”
The tension was palpable.
Silent, Rosalind decided to play it by ear after they met.
The car came to a steady stop in front of Malcolm’s residence. Ulric got out of the car first and went around to the trunk, grabbing a paper bag.
By the time Rosalind got out of the car, he was already standing next to her.
Before she could ask what was in the bag, Malcolm appeared. He was wearing black casual clothes and walked towards them.
“Rosalind, you’ve lost weight.”
He immediately expressed concern for Rosalind.
Ulric’s face darkened instantly as he coldly uttered two words. “She hasn’t.”
Was he accusing him of not taking care of Rosalind?
How could he possibly not take care of his woman?
“Um…” Rosalind didn’t expect Ulric to be so aggressive as soon as they met.
Fortunately, Malcolm didn’t seem interested in engaging in an argument. He simply pursed his lips and then said, “Alright then, maybe I was mistaken. Let’s go inside.”
He turned around and led them in. Rosalind pulled Ulric aside, urging him to control his temper.
His jealousy was too obvious!
Reluctantly, Ulric did as Rosalind asked.
“Please have a seat.” Once inside, Malcolm poured them water as if they were regular guests.
Ulric looked around the house.
The house wasn’t big, just over a hundred square meters. It had a simple and minimalist style. Toys belonging to children were scattered everywhere but neatly arranged.
After they sat down, Malcolm brought over a big bag full of Floyd and Jake’s toys.
“These are the children’s favorite toys for everyday play. There are some others as well, but I think Mr. Walters will probably buy them new ones, so there’s no need to take these away.”
“Yeah,” Ulric responded before placing the paper bag he brought down on the table. “Thank you for taking care of Rosalind and our two children all these years. This is for you.”
Rosalind didn’t expect Ulric to have prepared this!
Malcolm glanced at the paper bag but didn’t reach for it. Instead, he smiled and asked, “What does Mr. Walters want to give me?”
“You’ll see when you look inside.”
“It seems like it’s in line with the Walters family’s style,” Malcolm said with a smile that did not reach his eyes.
He reached out and opened the paper bag, flipping through its contents.
Inside were several documents, including contracts for a villa, luxury cars, and the transfer of a medium-sized company.
It could be said that these things were enough to turn someone into an instant wealth in Northville City.
“Mr. Walters, you’re very generous.”
“I told you, I’m here to express my gratitude.” Ulric wasn’t oblivious to the provocation. He just didn’t want Rosalind to feel embarrassed.
