She used to get hurt frequently, so Nelson had a medical kit prepared in his car. Every car in his garage had one.
Thinking of his tenderness, Callie felt only irony.
She abruptly withdrew her hand. “Save such deep affection for Maevelyn. She would be very happy. I’m a heartless person; it’s wasted on me!”
Sunlight fell on her full cheeks, and at this moment, she was angry, her eyes sparkling.
Nelson was always swayed by this look, but his expression remained unchanged. He grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him.
“Callie, do you really think your temper is worth anything?”
Not worth anything.
But enough to soften his heart.
She took a deep breath and pushed open the car door to get out, but the man pulled her back, slamming the door shut. She was pressed against it, a large shadow covering her. Callie screamed, “This is in the car!”
“Jealous, my ex-wife?” Nelson sneered, his fingertip tracing her smooth cheek down to her neck.
Callie felt intensely ticklish. “What am I jealous of?”
“Maevelyn.”
“You two are made for each other. When you get married, I’ll definitely send a big gift.”
She thought of something amusing and actually laughed out loud. But as she laughed, her expression turned sad and bitter.
Nelson frowned slightly. He reached out and lightly slapped her with the back of his hand, more like teasing than hurting.
Callie raised an eyebrow.
“Isn’t it true? Can you say for sure that you two won’t get married?”
He showed no expression, stood up, took out a cigarette, and smoked it slowly.
Callie also stood up. “You can’t guarantee it either.”
At some point, she had to admit that looking at his profile was truly painful.
“Business battles are not as simple as you think.” He exhaled a puff of smoke, hiding the coldness in his eyes.
A car approached from the front. He looked at it. “Follow Anthony.”
“I’m not interested in your affairs. I can walk on my own.” Callie adjusted herself. Recently, many secrets had been weighing on her heart, making it hard to breathe.
Nelson opened the door, one leg out. Before leaving, he said, “Grandpa is in the hospital. If you still care about him, go see him.”
With that, he closed the door.
She didn’t do as he said, so he would leave instead.
He walked towards Anthony’s car with a cold demeanor until he got in and drove away, disappearing from sight.
If she didn’t go, he would leave.
Kieran quickly got into the car, cautiously looking at Callie in the back seat. “Callie…”
Callie snapped back to reality and urgently asked, “What’s wrong with Grandpa?”
Kieran knew. “He suddenly fainted and hasn’t woken up in the hospital for about a month.”
Hearing this, Callie became even more worried and disregarded Nelson’s words. “Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
“Mr. Oconnor wouldn’t allow it…”
“Take me to the hospital.”
On the way, her heartbeat quickened. When she first met Grandpa, his health wasn’t good; he had already walked through death’s door once. Now that he had fainted again, she was genuinely worried.
If there was anyone among so many people who had no interest in using her for personal gain, it was Grandpa.
Their relationship had long surpassed being just Nelson’s grandfather; he had become her grandfather too.
Kieran drove quickly and arrived at the hospital entrance. Callie got out immediately and entered the elevator when her phone suddenly vibrated. Someone sent a message. She glanced at it and froze.
-The results are out. Where are you?
