The torrential rain relentlessly washed over the night.
Callie didn’t want to recall the humiliation of the afternoon. She avoided him, saying, “Thank you for not coming in at that moment.”
In that situation, it was a way of giving her some dignity.
The smile in Jaquan’s eyes grew colder. He brushed aside the hair sticking to her cheek. “I regret it.”
Callie looked at him under the wall lamp, puzzled. “Regret what?”
“Regret not taking you that day when you were drugged.” Jaquan’s tone was calm, but his words were shocking, making her frown deeply.
“Are you crazy?”
“I’m not crazy.” Jaquan played with a strand of her hair, reluctant to let go. “Even if it meant letting those despicable people succeed, I wanted you, Callie. I regret it every day.”
His regret peaked when he was outside on the rooftop today.
Callie pushed him away and lowered her voice. “Did Ahmad drink tea or wine with you? Don’t go crazy on me!”
Jaquan leaned back against the wall, returning to his usual carefree demeanor, but his eyes were filled with blatant possessiveness.
“I’ll divorce and take you with me, Callie. I can do it.”
His gaze was particularly firm and cold, full of rationality.
Callie began to realize that his intense emotions were not just to spite Nelson.
“Your wife is in the next room, emotionally shattered, and you’re here talking about divorce. Jaquan, being a husband like this is inappropriate.”
A strong sense of guilt surged up.
Jaquan said nothing, just stared at her, wanting to merge her into his body.
“If you divorce, the Ellison family will no longer support you. The Scott Group can’t always have smooth sailing. Do you plan to continue relying on Owen?”
“Why not?”
Callie almost laughed. She turned away. “Even if you divorce, I won’t go with you. We’re all adults; don’t get carried away.”
A shadow covered her back as he gently hugged her, resting his head on her shoulder and sighed lightly, smelling of smoke. “Nelson intends to expand the Oconnor Group’s territory. He needs the Ellison family. His relationship with Maevelyn is inseparable. You won’t have another chance.”
Upon hearing this, Callie’s heart suddenly ached.
“What I need to do, you can’t accomplish.”
“No pain, no gain. Think about it carefully.”
At the end of the corridor, someone opened a door, and a beam of light appeared. Someone stood backlit, and Jaquan and Callie seemed like two intertwined vines.
The rain continued throughout the night without any sign of stopping.
The next morning, a group of people sat in the Ellison family’s hall while Sienna made tea for everyone.
Charlotte sat on one side, learning flower arranging from a servant and occasionally asking Nelson for his opinion. He would sometimes say a few words or help her arrange the flowers, showing an intimate posture.
Regan sat at the table handling business affairs.
Jaquan had just come out of Marilyn’s room and reported a few things to Ahmad when his phone suddenly rang.
Whatever was said on the other end made his gaze fall on Nelson, who was guiding Charlotte with flower arranging. “I’ll be right there.”
“Where are you going? The rain is so heavy; it’s not suitable for going out,” Sienna asked.
Jaquan respectfully replied, “There’s a problem with my father; I need to check on him.”
Hearing this, Sienna didn’t ask further and saw him off at the door. “Be careful on the road.”
After he left, Ahmad withdrew his gaze. “He can’t keep great poise as always.”
