“Calm down, you just woke up. There is no use having so much anger bubbling through your veins,” Lima said as she walked toward Priya.
She took Priya’s wrist in her hands and started checking her veins to see if she was fine.
Priya looked at her with so many questions in her head. She didn’t know who this lady was, and she was clearly not comfortable being touched like this. After what had happened, she wasn’t comfortable with anyone present in the room.
At least not with Priyank’s presence. He just stared at her as if she would evaporate if he took his eyes off her for a second.
“Who are you?” she asked, wanting to know because this woman didn’t even look like a doctor or nurse.
“I am the one who saved you, queen. I’m Lima, your magical witch, around the corner for many years,” Lima replied as she softly looked at Priya.
“My name is Priya, not queen,” Priya answered, confused, not knowing what the other part of the magical witch’s statement meant.
Why is everything so confusing? As if everyone just wants to confuse her and nothing else. This is giving her a bigger headache than she would ever want to have.
“You will know a lot of things, and then you will see what you really are. Maya, she is stable now. It’s better if you take her to the pack house. The people in the pack need to know who she is. Everyone has been waiting for her for years, so it will be better if you let them know soon,” Lima suggested as she walked back from Priya.
“I will introduce her to everyone when she is healthy. I don’t think it’s safe to do it now because Priya is ill and she doesn’t know a lot of things yet,” Maya said, smiling, though clearly tired.
“It’s up to you. I am going back; I have a lot of things that need to be worked on,” Lima said, leaving with heavy footsteps.
“Tell me what is happening, Maya,” Priya looked at Maya, Levi, Rish, and Jackson, wanting an answer from any one of them.
“You need to rest before you can take it all in, so how about just resting and recovering well?” Jackson’s voice burst through the silence.
“I don’t want to rest. My head is going to explode if this continues. How did I even end up in this hospital? That’s the main question. And why is he here?” Priya pointed toward Priyank, her eyes narrowing as the bitter taste lingered on her tongue.
She could take anything, but she didn’t want to see him. Now he was here again in her life. How could she rest? She never could rest, for sure.
“He is your mate. You were cursed; that’s why you ended up in the hospital. Priya, you are a werewolf. You have royal blood flowing inside your veins. This is not your hometown. This is your birthplace, the pack, where people like you live away from the human world,” Maya breathed out her answer.
Priya’s mind raced as Maya’s words sank in. Werewolf? Cursed? Royal blood? It all felt like a surreal nightmare.
But as she saw the dream, these were the exact things she heard from that voice – at least the wolf part.
She looked around at the faces of those in the room, searching for some confirmation or denial in their expressions. But all she found was a mix of concern, weariness, and a hint of something she couldn’t quite place.
“Can someone please explain everything to me?” Priya pleaded, feeling overwhelmed by the weight of this new reality crashing down upon her.
Jackson sighed, exchanging a glance with Levi and Rish before turning back to Priya. “It’s a long story, Priya. And a complicated one at that. But you deserve to know the truth.”
“He’s right. Your mother and father died when hunters and rogues attacked this pack. At that time, you were so small that I had to leave you somewhere safe. I didn’t have much time to think, so I left you in a place I hoped would keep you hidden. That’s why, even in 18 years, I was unable to find you,” Maya revealed.
Priya remembered how even the voice in the darkness had mentioned her parents’ death. So it was true; her parents had died?
She hated them for leaving her, but now she was starting to understand the whole situation, even if half of it didn’t make sense to her.
“I know it’s hard, but it’s true. You are the heir of this pack; you will rule it. Your mother placed a curse on you that can only be broken by your mate, Priyank. She did it because she didn’t want anyone to discover your powers until you came of age. We’re glad about that because you lived in the human world, and it would have been dangerous if your powers had manifested during those years,” Maya finished her explanation.
Priya’s mind spun with the weight of Maya’s revelations. The idea of being an heir to a werewolf pack was beyond anything she had ever imagined. And to think that her own mother had placed a curse on her for her protection-it was both baffling and unsettling.
“Is there no way to break the curse without Priyank?” Priya asked, her voice trembling with uncertainty.
Maya exchanged a solemn glance with the others before responding, “I’m afraid not, Priya. The bond between mates is strong, and only Priyank can unlock your true potential and break the curse.”
Priya felt a wave of conflicting emotions wash over her.
‘Why even ask this? Do I even believe any of this-mates, wolves, heirs?’ Priya questioned herself.
She might have wanted to deny it all, but the dreams made it feel like no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t escape it.
“Then who are you? Why did you help me if you didn’t know me from the start?” Priya demanded.
Maya sighed. “I helped you not because I knew you from the beginning. Yes, I did recognize your scent, but only after I got close to you. I’m the one who left you in the human world to protect you. Your mother was my sister, and I’ve been searching for you for 18 years, leaving everything behind, even forsaking my wolf. Levi, Rish, and I didn’t get our wolves back due to everything.”
