“Mom, why did you say you’ll take her to the pack? We’re not even allowed there, and we haven’t received a response to your letter yet,” Levi followed Maya into the room, while Priya rested in another room, exhausted from the walk.
“I’ve made my decision. Even if we don’t get a reply in two days, I’m going to pack. No one can stop me; it’s the only way out,” Maya declared, her expression serious.
“What do you mean, Mom? Do you want to get killed? We were banished from that pack. We’ll be considered rogues, and you, me, and Rish don’t even have wolves to protect us. Plus, Priya doesn’t know anything, and she’s cursed,” Levi’s eyes widened, showing her panic.
“Do you think we can hide our whole lives? I don’t want to hide anymore. Why should we? Especially when I’ve found the royal heir. It’s time to face it, Levi. I left the pack because I wanted to correct my mistake. Now that I have Priya, I want to go back and stand for what I believe in.”
Levi sighed, unsure of what to say. As much as it sounded like a fantastic delusion her mother wanted to live, she couldn’t ignore the reality. Passing through the pack’s territory wasn’t a game. The hate, the power, everything would crush them.
“You don’t have to worry, Levi. They can’t do anything when the queen is with us. Priya is the future queen of our pack. Once she walks into the pack, everyone will be able to detect it because of the oath the pack took to protect and serve royal blood from generation to generation,” Maya reasoned.
Levi knew this was true. That’s why Maya was able to detect Priya as a royal heir, even though Priya was cursed and Maya herself couldn’t use her powers.
But wasn’t it too dangerous to consider? What if the situation escalated more than it should? She couldn’t let that happen, could she?
“Hear me out, Mom. We should wait for Dad because we don’t know how things will unfold.”
“We’ll wait two days. If he still hasn’t come, then I’m taking Priya to the pack. She belongs there,” Maya said firmly.
Levi exhaled. “I don’t know what you want to do, but if that’s your plan, then I’m all for it.”
Even though she didn’t agree with her mom, she couldn’t let her go alone and suffer. She knew that no matter what, she would be there for every decision her mom made, whether good or bad.
“What did you say to Priya?”
“I think she’s different, Mom. Very different. Like she doesn’t even speak like someone her age,” Levi relayed everything word for word about their conversation with Priya while walking.
Maya listened attentively as Levi recounted her conversation with Priya.
“She’s different, Mom. Very different. Like she doesn’t even speak like someone her age,” Levi repeated.
Maya nodded thoughtfully, absorbing Levi’s words. ” That’s maybe because of a curse.”
Levi frowned. “But Mom, what if it’s dangerous to take her to the pack? What if we put her in danger?”
Maya placed a reassuring hand on Levi’s shoulder. “I understand your concerns, but I have a feeling Priya is meant to be with us. We’ll do everything we can to keep her safe.”
Levi sighed, still feeling uneasy about the whole situation. “I don’t know mom, it’s a dangerous game you wanted to play.”
“I don’t want to play any games, Levi. This is war, and we’ll have to fight it off. I can’t back off after spending eighteen years of my life away from everything I once cherished. If we were able to find Priya, that’s a sign from the Moon Goddess already,” Maya declared.
Levi nodded in agreement, recognizing the truth in Maya’s words. They had found Priya in a very unexpected way, and nothing happens without the will of the Moon Goddess. They had to trust fate and couldn’t just sit around waiting to be checkmated.
“Trust in yourself, Levi. I know we can do this. Priya needs to fight; she needs to take revenge for her parents. Her mental state might not be normal because of the curse, but that doesn’t mean we can deny the fact that she is the strongest wolf, a royal blood, a queen of the Royal Blood Pack,” Maya’s eyes blazed with determination as she spoke.
For eighteen fucking years, Maya had suffered, longing to take revenge. It wasn’t just because Priya’s parents were the king and queen; it was because Priya’s mother was Maya’s own sister. Maya’s heart bled at the thought of her sister’s death.
Priya is her niece, and she had always respected her own sister as the queen. But after her sister’s death, Maya had felt like a fucking kid throwing a tantrum.
Her sister had been just like Priya. Of course, it wasn’t surprising, considering Priya was her daughter. But her sister had mated the king, becoming Luna and queen.
At that time, Maya hadn’t followed her, but when she found her mate in the same pack, she had been happy to be close to her sister. She even took on the role of a doctor, as her husband was a healer.
More than seeking revenge for the king and queen of the pack, Maya sought revenge for her sister and brother-in-law.
Maya clenched her fists, her eyes reflecting the fire within her as she continued.
“I want revenge for my sister and brother-in-law. They didn’t deserve to die like that,” Maya’s voice trembled with emotion. “They were good people, and they were taken from us too soon,” she added, her voice growing steadier.
Levi’s eyes teared up seeing her mother like this.
“I won’t rest until justice is served, until Priya avenges them and takes her rightful place as the queen,” Maya declared, her determination shining through.
Levi nodded, her own resolve firming. “Priya won’t have to fight alone. We’ll stand by her side every step of the way.”
Levi knew the pain her mother endured after losing her sister and everything in just one day. She couldn’t even imagine that kind of loss.
Having Rish as her brother, Levi couldn’t fathom the thought of losing him. So she completely understood her mother’s perspective.
