Burden

“Did you two have a good walk?” Maya asked as she saw Priya and Levi approaching. She felt relieved seeing them.
She had been stressed, thinking about what they might be talking about because she didn’t want Levi to spill everything, or worse, to have a slip of the tongue.
“Yes, Mom, we had a great talk. I love her; she’s totally funny,” Levi smiled as she supported Priya and helped her to sit on the sofa.
“How are the wounds, Priya?” Maya walked close to Priya and sat beside her.
“Sore, but they’re healing faster,” Priya smiled as she spoke.
“She told me her wounds always heal faster,” Levi chimed in, passing on Priya’s words to Maya.
Maya nodded, understanding exactly what Levi wanted to say. That meant Priya had her wolf; it’s just the curse that’s stopping it.
Without a wolf, it’s impossible to heal so quickly. But how her wolf is still working even with the curse is questionable.
Or maybe it’s because she is of royal blood, which makes a huge difference. Normally, anyone would be very weak, but her wolf is already healing her.
That’s a sign that she already has her wolf; it’s just that it can’t fully manifest due to the curse.
“Mom, did Rish go to buy something?” Levi saw her mom lost in thought.
Maya snapped back from her thoughts. “Yes, he went for some groceries and said he will check the orphanage to see if it’s safe.”
“What?” Priya jumped. “He already went to see? Can we call him? I want to know if everyone is fine there.”
Levi smiled. “Hold on, Priya. Of course, we can call him, but I don’t think we should disturb him. We don’t know what the situation is out there, so we should wait.”
Levi didn’t feel good seeing how sad Priya looked, but she couldn’t do anything.
She wasn’t happy that Rish decided to go alone. Priyank is a scary person, so going alone is even worse.
“She’s right. I think we should wait. He’ll come home soon, and we’ll get the information. I’m sure everything will be fine. You just have to trust things,” Maya supported Levi’s words.
“Let me do first aid, so you can clean her wounds and heal them,” Levi suggested, going inside.
Within a few minutes, she came back with the first aid box.
Maya took it and started cleaning Priya’s wounds.
Priya didn’t say anything further, knowing they were right.
They were already doing so much for her, so she couldn’t just push her luck and pressure them into something that could be dangerous.
It wasn’t even safe, yet Rish went to see! She was already grateful for that.
“So, what’s the plan from here, Priya?” Maya closed the first aid box. “I think you should come with us to my hometown. It will be a great change. After you make sure everything is fine at the orphanage, you can come with us.”
Maya had thought of a lot of reasons when Levi and Priya were walking in the backyard. She wanted to take Priya to the pack, so she had to come up with a huge plan.
“We were already planning a trip there, but now that you’re here, we can’t leave you alone, so maybe you could tag along,” Maya finished.
She had to do this, and this plan seemed like a better option.
Levi looked at Maya with a confused expression; she didn’t understand which hometown her mother was talking about.
They had no place to go other than this cabin in the middle of the forest.
Maya noticed Levi’s confusion and sighed, realising she hadn’t explained properly.
“I mean my hometown, where the pack is,” Maya clarified. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while. It’s not safe for Priya to be alone, especially with Priyank out there. And being with the pack would provide her protection.”
Levi’s eyes widened in understanding. “Oh, I see. That sounds like a good plan.”
“What’s a pack, Maya?” Priya asked, trying to understand what Maya meant.
It was uncomfortable being asked to go on a trip when she had just met them yesterday.
Sure, they had given her a place to live, and she trusted them enough for now.
But she couldn’t deny that it sounded like they had been planning it before they found her yesterday.
So she couldn’t just be an obstacle.
“The name of our hometown is Pack,” Maya said, trying to deflect the topic, not wanting Priya to ask more.
She didn’t know how to explain the whole werewolf pack thing, so it was better if Priya just came and learned things slowly.
“Yes, Mom’s right,” Levi chimed in. “Our hometown is beautiful.”
She didn’t even know what she was saying, but she understood what her mom wanted to do and how she wanted to take Priya to the pack.
So she got the whole thing and supported her mom’s words – they couldn’t tell the truth, so they had to stick with lies for now.
Priya looked between Maya and Levi.
She wanted to refuse, but she couldn’t stay here alone either. How could she deny it when it was their home and they were kind enough to offer the invitation? She felt like she would be a burden if she refused again.
“Okay, I’ll come with you,” Priya said with a nod. “I appreciate your invitation.”
Maya smiled warmly. “Great! We’ll make sure you’re comfortable there.”
Levi grinned, relieved that Priya agreed. “It’s settled then. We’ll leave in a couple of days.”
“That’s fine with me, though I don’t have clothes and stuff,” Priya mentioned.
“You don’t have to worry; you can wear my clothes. The ones you’re wearing are mine too, so they should fit you perfectly. Don’t worry,” Levi reassured her.
“I think it’s best. You can even wear Rish’s clothes; they might be oversized, but they’ll be fine too. And if you want, we can buy you new ones,” Maya offered, trying to be accommodating.
“No,” Priya immediately declined, feeling embarrassed. How could she agree to something like this? Why would she let them buy her clothes when she could see they weren’t even rich? And because of the ring thing, Levi and Rish lost their salary. She couldn’t be more of a burden than she already was.
