Callie whimpered twice.
Jaquan had arrived outside the rooftop and attempted to push the door, but it didn’t respond.
“Callie, are you in there?”
Callie glared fiercely at the man so close to her, wanting to speak, but he kissed her even deeper.
“Let him hear how you bloom in my embrace.”
She almost suffocated.
Jaquan didn’t hear a response and unlocked the rooftop door. “Callie?”
Nelson’s voice was like a nightmare. “If he sees the woman he never had, being manipulated by me to the point of ecstasy, will he kill me?”
As he spoke, he seemed to have imagined Jaquan’s expression and chuckled.
It was this short laugh that made Jaquan ultimately not push the door. He stood in place for a long time, completely engulfed in shadow.
The servant returned. “Mr. Scott, is Mr. Oconnor inside?”
After a moment, Jaquan turned back. “No, he’s probably in the study.”
The sound of footsteps on the stairs slowly faded away.
Callie, like a dehydrated fish, relaxed her whole body as if she had survived a disaster.
Nelson had let go of her and straightened the wrinkles on his black pants, returning to his usual cold and composed demeanor.
Callie looked disheveled and could only stand by leaning against the wall.
“Remember, if you don’t want more trouble, don’t take medication.” Nelson touched her shoulder, and his fingers were immediately stained with blood.
Callie picked up the belt of her dress, a design similar to a belt, and swung it forcefully, smashing it against the man. “We’re already divorced, why are you still treating me like this!”
Nelson stood still, unmoving. The metal button on the belt hit his wrist bone with a crack sound that sounded painful, but he looked as if he felt nothing.
“I’ve told you, you are mine.”
Tears remained on Callie’s face, and she had no strength left. “I belong to myself.”
The sun was scorching, and tiny beads of sweat appeared on the man’s forehead. He looked up and said, “It’s going to rain. Don’t leave today.”
After speaking, Nelson pushed open the rooftop door.
“Nelson!” Callie shouted, “If you dare touch me again, I’ll jump from the top of the building.”
He stood still, expressionless. “You can try.”
Callie immediately turned around and walked towards the edge.
Nelson finally showed some emotion. “If you jump, I’ll have Reuben taken care of.”
Upon hearing this, Callie’s movement came to an abrupt halt. She asked eagerly, “Do you have news about Reuben?”
He didn’t answer her and walked down the stairs without stopping.
Callie completely lost her strength and sat down on the scorching ground.
In a game against Nelson, she was no match at all.
He was right; it was going to rain. The weather was too hot, and a storm was about to hit.
Callie sat in place, allowing herself to be washed by the heavy rain, as if it could wash away the traces on her body.
The rooftop door was left open. When the servant approached, they were startled to see her sitting silently in the rain. “Miss Marsh, what are you doing…”
An umbrella appeared above her head, and Callie finally came to her senses. “I… sprained my foot and can’t stand up.”
The servant understood and quickly helped her up. “You’re all wet. You should take a shower.”
Assisted by the servant, Callie went downstairs. When Regan saw her like this, they were shocked. “I’ve been looking for you everywhere, and you…”
The servant explained, and Callie continued, “Do you have clothes?”
“… Yes, go to my room and take a shower.”
