Chapter 1797: Origins

Book:My Ex-husband Regretted To End The Marriage Published:2025-2-16

Camille didn’t have the spare mental capacity to think about Ayan’s matters at the moment. After having lunch with Yessica, she immediately left the company.
Once she left the company, she drove straight to the hospital when she received a call from Grace.
Naturally, it was about the test results.
Because Grace was worried that Camille was keeping things from her, she had been constantly preoccupied with thoughts all day.
Camille didn’t answer and instead asked, “Aren’t you afraid that Horace will notice your blatant actions?”
“Don’t worry. Horace isn’t at the company.”
“He’s not at the company?”
“Yeah, he went to the SynergyCon project team. It seems like they’re having an urgent meeting, so he left early in the morning. It seems to be Mr. Simpson’s idea. I don’t know what it’s about!”
Grace honestly told Camille without any concealment. Camille felt a bit suspicious.
They wouldn’t go to the SynergyCon project team unless there was something important going on. Mario was in charge of that project, so everything should be handled by him unless there were matters that even Mario couldn’t handle.
Camille felt a great curiosity and concern.
Grace didn’t think too much about it and simply said, “Why aren’t you saying anything? Just tell me honestly, what are the test results?”
Camille pursed her lips and said, “I don’t know. I haven’t received the test results yet. I’m on my way to get them now. I’ll let you know as soon as I have them.”
“Don’t lie to me.”
“I won’t lie.”
Grace kept repeating the sentence, afraid of being deceived.
Camille smiled helplessly. With a faint smile on her lips, she said, “You should go back to work. Since Horace went to the SynergyCon project team, you are in charge of the entire Armstrong Corp. Please work hard. As a shareholder, I have the right to demand that of you.”
“Alright, alright. I’ll go make money for you now!”
Camille managed to brush it off.
After finishing the call with Grace, Camille continued on her way to the hospital.
She felt naturally anxious along the way.
Although she already knew the results for certain, there was still an indescribable feeling in her heart until she actually obtained the test results.
She arrived at the hospital in just over ten minutes.
After parking her car, she went directly to the report printer to collect the test results.
This was a basic privacy protection measure provided by hospitals for patients. If there were any areas of confusion, patients could choose to look up information themselves or ask doctors for clarification.
Instead of immediately reading the results after it was printed, Camille returned to her car first. It was only then that she read them.
The results naturally matched her speculation.
As she looked at the string of words behind the test results, she let out a sigh of relief while experiencing an indescribable emotion.
She pursed her lips and couldn’t help but think back to her childhood.
Her parents’ lack of affection towards her made Camille doubt herself at one point. After all, children who weren’t loved by their parents were sad and lonely.
She had only been met with her parents’ indifference despite constantly striving to become better.
It turned out that she wasn’t their biological child! No wonder they didn’t dote on her.
The result was aligned with reality.
Leaning against her seat in the car, Camille tightly held onto the results in her hand as she looked up at the sky with a bitter smile. “Grandmother, can you see this? I am not part of the Armstrong family either.”
She didn’t keep this test result and tore it up before throwing it into a nearby trash bin.
The hospital’s trash bins were cleaned multiple times a day so that no one would pay attention.
Ayan must have already known about this, but he chose to keep it hidden from her so as not to hurt or upset her.
She took a silent breath and decided not to return to the company or project team.
Since everything had been arranged, there was no harm in taking a break for herself.
She drove aimlessly around until she reached the riverside.
After parking her car, she walked along the stone railing by the riverbank. The weather today was nice. There wasn’t a scorching sun but rather a gentle, soothing breeze.
She walked for a while before finding a stone bench and sat down.
Then she picked up her phone and made a call.
It connected immediately after ringing a few times. The person on the other end answered, “Camille?”
“Yeah, it’s me.” Camille softly asked, “When are you coming back?”
“I plan on going tomorrow morning. I’ve already booked my flight.”
“Good,” Camille said calmly. She pursed her lips and paused for two seconds before continuing, “I want to ask you something. Can you answer me?”
“What is it? What do you want to ask?”
“You suddenly mentioned resigning. Is it really just because of work competition and conflicts between him and the Bill family?” Camille straightforwardly voiced her doubts. She didn’t really need to ask Crystal. She could have just gone directly to Flento City and might have gained much more information there.
But Camille trusted Crystal, and she wanted to probe further and understand what kind of family Crystal came from.
She wanted to know why the Bill family would send their own child away and why they wanted her back now.
These questions kept pressing on Camille’s mind, making it impossible for her to ignore them.
Her words silenced Crystal completely.
On the other end of the line, Crystal’s face turned pale. She spoke softly, “Camille, why are you asking this? This is between Mr. Simpson and the Bill family. Let’s not talk about it anymore!”
Camille smiled faintly. She said, “We’ve known each other for quite some time now, right? Back when we were in university, I chose your classmate as my assistant. Then we met during a design competition and became friends. We’ve gotten along quite well during all this time, haven’t we?”
Crystal didn’t understand what Camille meant by asking such questions all of a sudden but still quickly replied, “Of course! We’re good friends.”
“In that case, can you tell me the truth?”
Crystal finally understood what Camille meant by asking these questions.
She felt helpless but had no choice but to agree since they had come this far already.
After all, if she kept brushing it off, Camille would truly be angry with her.
Camille asked again, “You know about my origins, right?”
Crystal was taken aback by Camille’s directness. Her question shocked Crystal so much that she couldn’t react for quite some time.
Camille wasn’t in a hurry. She simply said calmly after waiting for a few seconds, “Am I right?”
Crystal realized she could no longer avoid the truth. She was surprised that Camille had found out so quickly.
Had Ayan confided in her?
But that thought was immediately dismissed. If Ayan truly wanted Camille to know, he wouldn’t have threatened the Bill family.
So how did Camille discover it?
Crystal whispered, “Camille, why are you suddenly asking this?”
“It’s not sudden. Haven’t you known for a long time? Can you just tell me the truth?”
