Chapter 69
It was evident in alpha Federico’s face and body language that what I said got on his nerves.
As much as I enjoyed tormenting him with words I didn’t want anything I said to hurt Azalea’s well-being.
“Let’s skip the proverbs Dad, let’s talk about the pack matters and all I have to discuss with the neighbouring pack,” I said and sat on his couch.
He joined in and we started discussing pack matters.
There was so much tension in the room as we spoke because our eyes and minds did more of the talking.
We spoke politely to each other in a normal tone but our facial expressions were not matched with our voices or what we said.
I was so suspicious of him and the way he was behaving, I feared deeply for Azaleas.
Our words were carefully selected while we spoke, and despite our obvious suspicions against each other we continued to discuss the neighbouring pack’s status.
The atmosphere in the room changed because of the unspoken aggression we felt against each other.
We both knew how much we wanted to punch each other in the face but neither of us was willing to take that risk.
We continued talking and Alpha Federico kept using proverbs.
It was so unlike him, clearly he was deeply angry at me.
The proverbs he used always had to do with the “biting the hands that feed you” ideology and it was creepy and intense.
As the conversation continued I felt so weird, we stopped talking, and we just paused glaring at each other.
I knew at that moment that if Alpha Federico had a knife close to him, he would stab me without thinking twice.
We didn’t blink at each other, only our lips moved, it was a pretty intense moment.
What felt like an eternity began to wind down.
Susan walked into the room, I could see the surprised look on her face upon seeing both of us discussing.
“The elders are here, Alpha,” she said with a smile.
That’s all I’ve been waiting for all day, someone to help end this discussion before a fight breaks out.
“I think that’s all for now Alpha Federico, I’ll take your leave,” I said with the boldness left in me and walked out of his room.
I seized the opportunity I had to go to Azalea’s room, it felt like it’s been ages since I last saw her face.
I went to one of my trusted guards and bribed him to distract the others standing in front of Azaleas’s room.
Her door was slightly open so I went in slowly without making a noise.
I didn’t want to alert the guards because she would be doomed.
“I told you I didn’t want to see you Alpha!” She screamed, but when she turned her face softened immediately.
She ran to where I stood and started touching me like a blind woman who needed to touch to believe.
“Luth.. Thomas?” She stammered.
“Yes Azaleas, it’s me,” I responded.
“What are you doing here?” She asked, concerned.
“Did anyone see you coming? She asked and walked to the door to check.
“No one saw me,” I said to her with a smile.
My heart sank at the sight of her pale face and weak-looking skin.
I have never seen her look so defenceless in my entire life, she looked so small and frail and the sight made my heart bitter.
“Nooo!” I shouted as I fell to my knees, my fangs grew long, my ears grew wide and my eyes were so red in anger.
Azaleas ran towards me and placed a hand on my back to comfort me “Don’t think about it Thomas” she begged and I felt the emotions she felt through her words.
“When will all this end?” I asked her as I tried to calm my wolf.
She didn’t say anything, she just walked to her bed crying.
I walked to where she sat and placed my hands on hers
“I am here now, you’ll be fine,” I said assuringly.
“I. I am sorry Thomas, I should have come to your room, I should have found you, I always cried myself to sleep____
But before she could finish I interrupted her “Don’t apologise” my voice was firm.
“Alpha Federico acted rashly, you owe no one an apology”. I said to her and placed my palms on her cheek.
I sat by her, she looked so weak and tired, I felt a murderous intent toward Alpha Federico, and my mind raced back and forth on how to accomplish my mission.
She rested her face on my chest and leaned closer.
“Have you eaten?” I asked and kissed her on the forehead.
“No” Azaleas replied and used her hands to clean her runny nose.
“Crying inwardly won’t help you, crying to the faces of your enemies is the worst,” I said.
“So I shouldn’t cry at all?” She asked with a kid-like look.
“In situations like these we can turn our tears into something more useful,” I said.
“What?” She said and raised her head from my chest.
“Uhmmmm.. I don’t know it just slipped my mind” I said scratching my head and trying to remember the words.
“Never advise anyone ever again Thomas, you suck at this,” she said and laughed so hard.
I paused, staring at how beautiful she looked when she smiled.
I was lost at the beauty sitting right in front of me, even on her worst days she’s still the one I want to be with.
“You need to get something to eat, let me send a guard,” I said and called my guard.
He arrived with a tray filled with goodies, everything Azaleas loved.
I didn’t know how he got past Lady Rosa but I’m glad he did.
She ate like a hungry lion but she looked way too cute for me to concentrate on how she ate.
Suddenly, a knock came in from Azaleas’s door and I ran towards the window and jumped.
