When Callie went out again, the celebration party was already coming to an end.
She had become the focus of the event. With Jamir’s claim of pursuing her, many people who previously looked down on her came forward, trying to get acquainted.
Callie had achieved her goal and had no intention of staying any longer. She glanced around but didn’t see Nelson. At this point, she didn’t have the energy to worry about him.
“Where are you going?” Jamir chased after her from inside, following closely behind.
“Back to the hotel.” Callie didn’t stop walking.
“I’ll take you.”
Callie frowned, glanced at him, and then at the crowd behind, “Can you?”
He was the host, and all these people needed his attention.
Jamir indeed looked a bit troubled. He changed his approach, “I’ll have my secretary take you.”
“No need, I can drive.”
Callie refused directly. He grabbed her wrist to stop her, showing a bitter smile, “Those two years, when I talked to you about Anbusea, you always insisted I bring you here to play. Now that you’re really here, why not give it a chance?”
Mentioning this brought back memories of their innocent student days.
Callie sighed, looking at the bright moon in the sky, “Jamir, we’ve grown up, haven’t we?”
“You really don’t need to get involved in my mess. You have a great future in Anbusea, but my future is unpredictable.”
Jamir just smiled confidently, “I told you, give me a chance, and I’ll handle the rest.”
“Do you know what I’m planning to do?”
“Your father is missing.”
“And then?”
“It might involve the three major families of Ylosea.”
“So?”
“I can help you with that.”
Jamir’s confidence was as unwavering as ever.
Callie looked at him with a meaningful gaze but eventually pulled back, “I’m leaving now.”
This time Jamir didn’t follow. Eliza, who had been listening nearby and was confused, quickly caught up, “Callie, if you reject him like this, what if you need help in the future?”
“Did I reject him?”
“Huh?”
Callie walked briskly into the night.
Back at the hotel, Nelson’s car was parked downstairs.
The car window rolled down. Nelson sat in the back seat, studying her under a cluster of lights with an unreadable expression. “No one with you?”
Callie felt something was off but couldn’t pinpoint it. She stood still, “Eliza went to park the car.”
Nelson didn’t respond immediately. He just stared at her for a long time before lazily extending his hand out of the window, holding a phone that played a looping video.
In the dark night with drizzling rain, Jaquan held her hand while fighting alongside ten bodyguards. Blood streaked across the lens but was quickly wiped away. Their figures intertwined, sharing life and death.
Such an intense scene was unforgettable once experienced.
Callie’s pulse quickened. She had no idea where Nelson got the video…
At that moment, a gunshot sounded in the video. It was Callie who fired to protect Jaquan.
Nelson’s face suddenly showed undisguised malice. He withdrew the phone, veins bulging on the back of his hand.
The driver got out of the car and opened the door, signaling for her to get in.
Callie closed her eyes briefly, knowing he wouldn’t let it go easily. She could only get into the back seat.
Nelson turned off the phone, silencing it. He asked coldly, “Using the gun I gave you to protect another man, is that it?”
Callie’s body tensed up, “If I hadn’t used it then, both he and I would have died.”
“You wouldn’t have died.” Nelson leaned in, his large hand loosely encircling her neck. “He loves you so much; how could he let you die?”
“Nelson-“
