I have to do this

CHAPTER 109
ROBERT’S POV
~ “I’ll send you the details of her company. I need you to hack into her laptop and wipe out everything work-related. Can you do that?” ~
Frank was silent for some time, almost as if he wasn’t on call anymore. What I said must have disoriented him completely. But I didn’t expect him to be that way.
“Hey buddy…Are you still there?…” I brought my phone down from my ear just to make sure the call hadn’t disconnected. And it hasn’t.
“Hey boss…” His voice sounded. It was low almost as if he was afraid to speak.
“What happened?” I asked, bringing the phone to my ear. “Why did you suddenly black out on me?”
“I’m sorry, boss,” he said, taking a deep breath. “But why are we doing this? Is it really the right thing to do? After what Scarlett made me do to her, I promised myself I’d never be part of something that could hurt anyone like that again. What I did cost Lily so much, and the guilt still eats at me. I can’t bring myself to put her through that kind of pain again. My conscience won’t allow it.”
I let out a loud sigh. Convincing him to do this will be harder than I thought.
“Listen Frank. I understand how you feel okay? But believe me, it’s important we do this. It’s the only means we can use to get Lily back. If we can manage to create a rift between her and boss it won’t take long before he gets fed up and fires her, leaving her with no other option but to come back and continue working for our company. It’s the perfect opening for me to get to her.”
The line between us fell silent. I knew he was thinking deeply about this. He has changed a lot and I admired that about him. This was the perfect plan. I wasn’t being wicked or overly jealous, I was just doing what was necessary to get the love of my life back. Any man in my position would do the same. I can’t stand her spending all those long hours with that man. If this plan succeeds, I won’t only be saving her from him but also saving her from herself.
“Didn’t you say you owe her a mountain of apology for what you did to her?” I pressed on, determined to make him agree to this.
“Yes, I do owe her that…”
“After all these years, don’t you want to see her again? Won’t it be nice to finally have her back? She could even help make work easier for you at the company.”
His occasional inhale and exhale made it known he was contemplating deeply. I knew he’d agree to this. It might take a while but he will. And if by any chance he doesn’t, then I’ll have no other choice but to order him to do it. After all, I’m his boss and I’m in no position to beg any of my employees to get a job done. Getting Lily back was my top priority now. I don’t care whatever lengths I have to go to do that.
“Fine, I’ll do it,” he finally agreed.
“Good.” The corner of my lips lifted and I couldn’t help smirking.
“But under one condition.”
My brows lowered curiously. “And what is that?”
“After this one, you won’t give me any other dirty jobs like this to do.”
I laughed out almost hysterically. I can’t believe he called it dirty. I don’t see it that way. Instead, I saw it as more of a rescue operation. I was going to rescue what was mine. Mine!
“Deal,” I said, sealing the agreement.
But I don’t think I’ll stick to my end of the bargain. Desperate times call for desperate measures. If the need to do this kind of ‘dirty’ job arises again then I’ll be needing his expertise because no one does it better than him. Being able to hack into a security system or someone’s device without needing a password is no small feat. The demand for that kind of skill will always be high.
With his help, I was able to find out who killed my grandpa. I also learnt about Lily’s friend who visited her while she was in prison. I don’t think I’ll be letting Frank go anytime soon. He’ll come in handy when I’m ready to get back at those CEOs who bad-mouthed Lily in that meeting yesterday.
If by any chance he refuses to do the future ‘dirty’ jobs for me, I’ll have to order him or in serious cases, threaten to demote him or fire him completely from the company. Frank won’t want that. He loves his job and the pay that comes from it very much. As a result, he’ll have no other choice but to agree to do them.
“But are you sure her laptop contains the company’s important information?” He asked.
“Yes,” I nodded firmly. “She’s been working on it all day long. Being the co-partner of the company, surely there will be some very valuable information about the company there. The jobs they get, their reports, pitches, clients’ contacts, emails. You have to wipe everything.”
“Fine,” he sighed like he had no choice. “I’ll see what I can do and notify you when the job is done.”
“Good.” I grinned and he cut the call.
As I brought my phone down from my ear and started forwarding every piece of information the security guard had sent me about the company to Frank, including Lily’s laptop password which he somehow managed to get for me, I kept reassuring myself what I was doing wasn’t bad. I was only doing it out of love and maybe a tiny bit of desperation and jealousy. But it was necessary. It just had to be done. I’m running out of time, and I’m afraid of losing her. I’ve never been so afraid in my life.
Lily will never find out about this. Because if she does, she’ll explode with rage and might not agree to come back to work for me. And I doubt she’ll suspect me to be behind it when it happens.
A satisfyingly sinister smile curved my lips. It’s only a matter of time before she becomes mine again and we leave this place.
Looking back into the surveillance equipment, I could see she was getting ready to leave. I stood up too and started packing my things to leave. Dusk was fast approaching but I didn’t care. Does she usually finish this late when it seems like other people have already gone? I’ll follow her to the ends of the earth. It wasn’t like I had anything more important to do. I was curious to find out where she lived. Where my kids lived.
