A clear and firm “She has me” reached Mr. Melton and his entourage.
The alcohol from the entire night instantly sobered him up. He carefully turned to see a man standing in the shadows, taking a slender cigarette from a pack and calmly saying, “Mr. Melton, may I borrow a light?”
“Hey!” Mr. Melton searched himself but couldn’t find a lighter. He kicked his secretary nearby and whispered, “Light! Light!”
After some fumbling, they finally found a lighter and lit Nelson’s cigarette. The flame illuminated Nelson’s indifferent expression.
“Mr. Oconnor… you, this… I am a man too, I understand,” Mr. Melton thought he was offering some comfort.
Nelson slowly smoked, chuckling softly, “What do you understand?”
His ex-wife had left with her first love; what man could tolerate that? Mr. Melton couldn’t say it directly and tried to explain in another way, “Women… I think Miss Ellison just now was quite good, very good!”
Nelson flicked the ash from his cigarette, “That’s my sister. She doesn’t count.”
Mr. Melton was taken aback, scratching his head, unsure of what to say. He stood there awkwardly with Nelson until the cigarette was finished. Nelson stared at the scattered ashes on the ground.
“Mr. Melton, how much do you know about the Quinn family?”
Mr. Melton began to regret not drinking enough to pass out. He hesitated, “Not much, just what the rumors say.”
In front of them, Jamir was helping Callie stand up. She shook off Jamir’s hand and walked away on her own.
Jamir got into his car and followed her at a leisurely pace.
“Acquired Sammy’s assets, united with the Quinn Group shareholders to oust his own brother, right?” Nelson’s back ached as he straightened up.
“Yes… Sammy is an illegitimate child. For the past six months, he has been teaming up with other companies to attack Jamir. Just for that reason alone, Jamir couldn’t tolerate him.”
Mr. Melton spoke with some indignation.
“Other companies?”
“They say they’re from Ylosea. Though we don’t know who’s behind them, their efforts are significant and their methods ruthless. So Jamir didn’t win easily over the past six months; it shows his determination.”
Being from Anbusea, Mr. Melton had some admiration for Jamir.
“Tell me more; maybe I really know.”
Mr. Melton thought for a moment and mentioned a name.
Nelson seemed to understand partially, lazily playing with the lighter, “Under the Oconnor Group.”
Mr. Melton didn’t even react before Nelson casually tossed the lighter into his arms, “I’m leaving now.”
The man walked into the night with a tall and striking figure.
Mr. Melton watched him leave, then suddenly felt weak in the legs and collapsed into his secretary’s arms, “Did you hear what he just said?”
The secretary broke into a cold sweat, “He… he said the company allied with Sammy is under the Oconnor Group.”
Mr. Melton’s vision went black.
Nelson revealing this information was simply to tell him that he and Jamir were never partners but rivals.
Tonight was a trap, and he was the only one enjoying it…
Thinking about this, Mr. Melton slapped himself, “Damn.”
Callie walked far away, directly back to the hotel. Her frustration hadn’t dissipated, and she never looked back.
“Callie? You… you didn’t walk back here, did you?” Eliza opened the door and saw Callie’s exhausted and haggard face.
Callie said nothing and went straight into the bathroom, closing the door behind her.
