“Callie!” Jamir called out in a low voice, trying to bring her back to reality.
Callie shuddered but couldn’t regain her composure. Amid the surrounding clamor, she shook off Jamir. “It’s nothing.”
Charlotte had already covered her birthmark with a coat. Nelson ordered someone to take her to change clothes and then asked Mr. Melton, “Did you enjoy yourself?”
Mr. Melton dared not push his luck, knowing this was the precious daughter of the Ellison family. “Of course.”
The group quickly dispersed, leaving only a few people in the private room.
Callie stopped drinking orange juice and poured herself a glass of red wine, downing it in one go. Jamir clicked his tongue and snatched the glass from her. “You’re wasting it. Wine isn’t meant to be drunk like that.”
Callie remained silent, sitting there as if her soul had drifted far away.
Charlotte came out after changing clothes. Jamir stared at her. “Miss Ellison, you have guts. To dare dive in such a situation, I admire you.”
Charlotte blushed for a moment, then walked over to Nelson and said obediently, “It was nothing. I didn’t want to spoil the fun.”
Nelson sat on the sofa, lost in thought. Charlotte asked cautiously, “Nelson, I came in last place. Did I embarrass you?”
He squeezed her soft palm with a faint smile. “The ranking doesn’t matter.”
Mr. Melton quickly stepped forward to apologize, saying he might have been offensive due to the alcohol and asked Miss Ellison for forgiveness.
Charlotte didn’t mind but poured a glass of wine and walked over to Callie. “I haven’t had a drink with Miss Marsh all night. This glass is for you.”
Callie was surprised by her sudden approach and tried to pull herself together. “A toast to me? For what?”
On closer inspection, one could see a hint of nervousness and even a plea in Charlotte’s eyes.
She was pleading.
“Of course, it’s to thank you for finally agreeing to divorce Nelson and freeing him from misery.” Her sudden statement made everyone raise their eyebrows.
Callie remained seated, glancing at Nelson with a smile. “Should I congratulate you on finally getting your chance?”
She poured herself another glass and clinked it with Charlotte’s. “I wish you success in rising to the top.”
Charlotte glanced at Nelson, her nervousness increasing. “My feelings for Nelson started when I was five or six years old. No one can compare.”
After speaking, she carefully observed Callie’s expression.
“I already wished you success.”
Callie showed no reaction, as usual, as if she hadn’t noticed the birthmark on Charlotte.
Charlotte slowly exhaled in relief.
“Charlotte,” Nelson said sternly, “come back.”
The tense atmosphere in the private room spread, with an open declaration of war between the two women. Only Mr. Melton was taken aback. Divorce? Wasn’t Callie’s first love Jamir? How could she be Nelson’s ex-wife?
Mr. Melton slapped his forehead, finally realizing that Callie was indeed Nelson’s ex-wife!
So this setup today…!
Callie watched as Charlotte walked back to Nelson step by step. He couldn’t see the venomous look in her eyes as she stared at Callie.
“I’ll take you home,” Jamir broke the silence.
Callie immediately stood up and walked out of the private room. “Thank you.”
She walked quickly, her steps silent on the carpet.
She never believed in coincidences like this in the world; the birthmark not only in the same place but also identical in shape-something even twins couldn’t achieve.
Charlotte managed it.
