Mighty’s POV
“Skylar, you can do this. Push,” Dr. Brenda urged, her voice steady as she encouraged Skylar to push out the baby. I didn’t want to watch-this scene was too intense for me. Watching a human come out of another human was a little too extreme. Skylar screamed in response.
“Just one more push,” Dr. Brenda said. With a loud scream, Skylar gave one final push, and the baby emerged. The sound of the baby’s cries filled the room. I gave Skylar a small smile and a nod of acknowledgment before I left.
It was a joyful moment for everyone-except for me, of course. She wasn’t the one I wanted a child with. My heart still belonged to a girl I’d fallen in love with back in school in Italy, and I hadn’t stopped feeling that way since. I rejected my mate because of her. It was a shock when I returned to Rome and saw her again, that night, dancing in the rain. It was a magical moment until I realized I wasn’t the only one watching her.
Back then, when we were young pups, I was bullied a lot at school, but Shenaya always stood up for me, even though she got beaten up too. My mother always told me not to let anyone walk over me because I was a future Alpha. I had promised myself that I would take Shenaya as my mate when I became Alpha and protect her, but her family suddenly disappeared, leaving me with a broken heart. Finding her again was like a new beginning for me. I watched her every move, waiting for the right time to claim her. But before I had the chance, I learned she was pregnant with Aiden’s pup-right under my nose.
I tore the throat out of the idiot I had watching her, furious that they hadn’t done their job properly. How could they not know when it happened? I was going to tear Shenaya’s abusive partner apart, but Aiden had already done that for me.
Seeing Aiden living with Shenaya still fills me with rage. That’s why I had Skylar tear them apart. Taking over Aiden’s pack wasn’t about Skylar, though-she wasn’t worth that much. It was about Shenaya and the unresolved past I had with the Crescent Pack.
Later that evening, Skylar was brought into my chambers, holding our baby girl, smiling from ear to ear. She had no idea what was about to happen. I named our daughter Zoey. She had Skylar’s dark hair and my icy blue eyes. How I wished she had red hair, just like her true mother-Shenaya.
I took Zoey from her and placed her in the baby’s cradle beside the bed. I approached Skylar, tucking her hair behind her ear. She smiled, giving me her best seductive look.
“Skylar, you are truly beautiful,” I began. “Any man would be lucky to have you, and I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. But it’s time to let you go.” Her smile faded immediately, and she opened her mouth to speak, but I placed a finger on her lips and continued.
“You are not the mother I want for my child. So thank you for bringing her into this world, but now, she needs her true mother more than ever.”
“You can’t take my pup away from me,” she said, her voice filled with determination. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I was ready to do whatever it took. I smiled and planted a kiss on her lips.
“Who is this woman you’ve been so obsessed with?” she asked out of nowhere.
“She’s Shenaya,” I replied, watching her face as her mouth dropped open in shock.
“You want to give my child to that whore? After everything I’ve done for you?” Tears filled her eyes.
“You should be grateful that she will raise your child as her own, especially after everything you’ve put her through. You tried to take her life and her pup’s, Skylar. She didn’t deserve that.”
“But I did it for you,” she said softly.
“I never asked you to kill her.”
When Skylar threw Shenaya off that cliff, I was the one who picked her up and brought her to Elara, my godmother, to heal her. The necklace I gave Shenaya was a locator-I could find her anywhere.
“Since she couldn’t take revenge on you because she was weak,” I paused, “I’ll return the favor on her behalf.”
A look of horror dawned on Skylar’s face as she realized what I was about to do.
“No,” she cried, but it was too late.
I picked up a pillow and pressed it against her face. She struggled and tried to cast spells, but I was too strong. Skylar may have been a powerful witch, but have you ever heard of an Alpha witch? The combination is lethal.
After a while, when I was sure she was no longer moving, I removed the pillow and tossed it aside. I called two guards to take her lifeless body to the morgue.
Now that Skylar was out of the way, it was time to move to Paris-to “accidentally” run into Shenaya and live with the love of my life.
