Shenaya’s Pov
I opened my eyes slowly and everything became blurry, I closed my eyes and opened it again so I could see clearly and my blurry sight slowly became clear. The room is small and dimly lit. I noticed the rough wooden walls, a thatched roof, and a simple bed of straw beneath me. The air is thick with the scent of herbs and the nearby fire made from firewood kept the room warm.
As I tried to stand up, pain gushed through my bones and I whimpered in pain.
‘Lily?’ I called out to my wolf.
‘We are safe.’ She said through my mind letting me know she was okay.
I placed my hands on my abdomen and relief washed through me when I felt the faint flutter of the heart of my pup’s heartbeat. As I was still thankful to the moon goddess for keeping my pup alive, I noticed a figure moving around the hut, and I sharply became alert.
The door pushed open and an old man was standing right in front of me.
“Shenaya, you are awake,” She said with complete glee in her eyes.
Shenaya? How did she even know my name?
“I’m Elara and I live right here in the mountains.” She introduced herself.
“I am a healer. I found your unconscious body at the base of the cliff and I could see you were pregnant, so I had to bring you back here.”
“I am sorry I had to invade your privacy by looking through your mind to see what happened to you and how you got to the base of the cliff.” So she’s a witch too.
My eyes wandered through her body. Elara is an old woman, she couldn’t stand straight. She has silver hair and is dressed in tattered clothes but with a kind and wise demeanor.
“You were in so much pain and you should thank your wolf for holding up for you, you could have lost your pup.” Her voice brought me out of my reverie.
“How long have I been here” I finally found my voice.
“You’ve been unconscious for more than two weeks now. The fall was severe and you are only alive because you have a strong wolf”.
The memories of the fall came flooding my mind and I almost jumped at the thought of Skylar pushing me from the cliff. The thought of it made my head ache and I made a painful sound.
Elara quickly stood up, she brought a concoction for me to drink and I felt some relief after drinking it.
“Thank you very much, Elara” I thanked her as I placed the cup on the small table beside me.
Elara placed her hand on my head and without hesitation, I drifted to sleep immediately.
…………………..
It’s been a week since became conscious and I have gradually regained my strength, I have nightmares of that painful night every night. I couldn’t help but feel abandoned by Aiden.
He didn’t look for me or what? I wanted to know what was happening.
I told Elara everything that happened between me, Aiden, and Skylar.
“You do not know the state of things in his pack, so you shouldn’t just conclude that he abandoned you like that.” That was what she told me when I told her I felt betrayed.
“That Skylar could have done anything,” she said and I reasoned with her.
“Like you said he was only being nice to you because of his pup, so he wouldn’t just let you go away with his pup just like that” she concluded.
“I am so scared Skylar could hurt me or my pup again if I should stand up against her the second time,” I admitted my fears to Elara.
“You are stronger than you think you are, You are more than an Alpha wolf and you have a strong spirit and aura”
“Your pup is very special and it will give you the strength to overcome whatever is to come your way,” She said with a smile as if she could see my pup already walking around the room.
I decided to return and told Aiden about how Skylar almost killed me and his pup. I have to be strong now more than ever if not for me but also for my Unborn baby. I know I can’t stay hidden forever, and the only way to protect my pup is to face my enemies head-on.
“I’m ready to leave now,” I said.
Elara gave me a hug and placed her hands on my hand.
“Take this” She squeezed a small diamond stone necklace in my hand.
“You have a very dangerous journey ahead of you and this will protect you and your pup from any harm at your most desperate moment”
“Wear this as you are going and once you give birth to your pup, tie it around its neck”.
“I will always be with you as long as you have the necklace,” she said as she took the necklace from me and tied it around my neck.
“Thank you very much for everything. Once I’m settled, I promise to find you and pay you back 10 folds” I hugged her and I didn’t even know I was crying already.
As I step outside, I feel a surge of energy, a connection with my pup that gives me the courage to face whatever lies ahead of me. I set out on the journey back to the pack, and ready to reclaim my life to protect my unborn child, no matter the cost.
