Aiden’s Pov
I barged into the main pack house, I didn’t slow down as I almost tore the door from its hinges. My mind was raced, and my only thought was to find my mother.
“Where’s Mother?” I barked, without caring to greet anyone. I didn’t have the time.
Lucy, who was sitting in the room, looked up at me with her eyes wide and worried eyes.
“Is everything alright, Aiden?” her voice laced with concern.
“Where is she?” I nearly shouted, ignoring her question. My tone was sharp and urgent, and it made Lucy flinch slightly. She pointed towards the larger sitting room, but before I could storm off, our mother emerged, her expression stern.
“Aiden, why are you shouting at your sister?” she asked, her voice commanding and disapproving.
Without wasting a second, I cut straight to the point. “Mother, I need you to call Aunt Belle.”
Her eyes widened at my request. Aunt Belle wasn’t just anyone; she was one of the most powerful witches in Rome and calling her meant something extremely serious was up, something that couldn’t be handled ordinarily, something that needed supernatural attention.
“Aiden, what’s going on?” her voice calm but with a hint of worry.
“Shenaya’s dead body wasn’t pregnant,” I blurted the words out of my mouth as if I was being chased.
“The doctor told me there was no pup in her belly when she died and we all knew she was pregnant. Shenaya wasn’t the type to lie about pregnancy to tie me down because she wanted to be Luna. Mother, you confirmed that she was indeed pregnant and we all saw how she wanted to get rid of the pregnancy.”
“Something is wrong, Mother. I don’t know what, but I have to find out.”
My mother’s face paled as she took in my words.
“Calm down, Aiden,” even though her voice was trembling slightly.
“Are you listening to yourself? How could she be pregnant when she was alive and then not pregnant in death?” I know it sounds crazy even though she knew something was up.
“That’s exactly what I’m saying,” I replied, my voice rising in frustration. “It doesn’t make any sense mother unless… unless the body is under a spell.”
Both my mother and Lucy gasped in shock, trying to sink in the information. The realization slowly sank in.
“Do you think Skylar has something to do with this?” Lucy said with a thinking face.
“I don’t know what to think actually,” I admitted, running a hand through my hair. “But we need to call Aunt Belle, she might have an answer”
Without hesitation, Mother pulled out her phone and put a call through.
Almost immediately they dropped the call, the air in the room shifted, the temperature dropping slightly as a blue cloud began to form. The cloud twisted and turned, shaped by wind and light, and within seconds, Aunt Belle stepped out of the cloud, her presence filled the room powers.
Yep, she has a personal portal for teleportation to wherever she is going.
“Hello there,” she greeted us, her voice smooth and commanding but I didn’t have the time for pleasantries.
“Aiden, tell me what’s going on,” Aunt Belle demanded as we walked through the garden.
I explained everything to her clearly.
“Do you think I’m crazy? Or Do you think it’s not possible?” I questioned her
“No, you are not crazy” she assured me ” It’s possible to switch bodies and faces and that is exactly what happened.”
As we approached the garden, I suddenly caught Skylar’s scent. My senses heightened and I glanced around trying to spot her, but she was nowhere to be seen.
‘Find Skylar, and make sure she doesn’t leave the pack,’ I ordered Lucas, my Beta through the mind link.
‘Okay, Alpha,’ he responded immediately.
“Let’s see the dead body,” Aunt Belle’s voice cut through my thoughts and brought me back to the present.
“Of course,” leading her to the morgue.
A nurse wheeled out the body, and my heart clenched as I looked down at Shenaya lying lifeless on the stretcher. Even though I knew she wasn’t the one lying lifelessly there seeing her face -so pale and so still-was like a knife to the heart.
Aunt Belle began to examine the lifeless body, her hands hovering over the body as she started to mutter ancient incantations. Her fingers danced in the air and drew invisible symbols that I couldn’t make any sense of. The lights in the hospital started to flicker, and suddenly, everything went dark.
“What’s happening?” I whispered, my heart pounding in my chest.
“The spell is broken.” Aunt Belle said
The light was restored and my head shot towards the body on the stretcher, the illusion faded away immediately.
Lo and behold! iItwasn’t Shenaya’s body lying there anymore. Awake of relief washed over me
“Do you recognize this woman?” Aunt Belle asked, her eyes narrowing as she studied the body.
“No,” I said, shaking my head. “But I have an idea who she could be, I’ll have Lucas find out who she was.” Aunt Belle nodded, but my mind was racing.
I didn’t recognize Areola so I wasn’t sure if she was the one or someone else. I already had my warrior look for her in the neighboring packs.
If this wasn’t Shenaya, where was she? What had happened to her? And why hadn’t she shown up for almost a month now? I didn’t need to ask who was responsible. I already knew. Skylar. She would pay dearly for this.
