60. AWKWARD SHOWDOWN

~YULIA.
I felt a tingle on my skin as soon as I entered the ancient library of the academy.
It was unusually cold and every breath that I took, I could see the mist. One thing that was very peculiar to me was that there was no librarian to ask for directions.
As if the library could read my thoughts, I found myself in an aisle of books on the topic of light. I saw many books that piqued my interest.
I saw books on werewolves, I saw books on witches and I saw books on humans. I was about to turn to the next aisle when a book dropped with a loud thud at my feet.
‘Of Light.’ It read and I bent down to pick it up. It was an old book with a broken leather cover and the author was unknown.
I went to a table and dragged out the chair and began to read. Soon I was engrossed. I did not find what I was looking for but the stories and pictures gave me a clue about what I was looking for.
All light came from the moon goddess. She bestowed blessings on werewolves with exceptional qualities and good deeds. I skimmed through some old werewolf families that were blessed by the goddess.
My phone buzzed and I looked at it. I was shocked by what I saw. It was Pete!
He was on the floor holding his crotch with Leia standing triumphantly over him. There were students jeering and laughing at him.
This was only going to make things worse for me. I had no idea why Leia was helping me but I knew that I had to be very careful around her. She was not helping from the kindness of her heart.
I closed the book and hastily left the library. I slapped my forehead lightly as I realized that I had forgotten to return the book but when I turned the table, it was empty and the book was nowhere to be found.
“The books are alive,” Issa’s voice echoed in my head. I shook my head in amazement and ran out of the Library. I needed to get to Leia before she did anything worse to Pete.
I thought back to the time Leia’s dad had jokingly told his daughter not to kill anyone. I did not want Pete dead, despite what he was doing to me.
I had memorized the place the fight had taken place and when I reached, a crowd had already gathered. Pete was getting up to his feet but his legs were all wobbly and his face was in a grimace of agony.
“You bitch!” He grunted as he held on to his crotch.
“Pete!” I yelled. “What is going on?”
He looked at me as he heard my voice. His eyes were filled with pain.
“You could not face me yourself?” Pete grunted in pain. “So you sent your other slut of a friend to fight for you.”
His words were venomous and whatever pity I felt for him vanished in an instant. I saw him for what he really was at that moment. A weak, insecure, pathetic and sorry excuse for a werewolf. I was disgusted that I was ever close with him. I was disgusted that we had shared a smile.
“What is the meaning of this?” Dean Davina shrieked loudly and the crowd cleared out in fear. Students docked their heads down as they ran for cover.
I guess she was really feared in this academy.
“Leia! And you,” She pointed at Pete. “In my office, now!” She turned to head to her office. “You too, Yulia.”
“But I did not do anything,” I protested.
A stern look from Davina shut me up and I followed her. I was beginning to hate my time in this school. The only consolation I had was hearing Pete wince in pain any time he walked. A lot of curious glances were thrown our way as we followed the strict Dean.
We all entered the office and took our respective seats.
“Slut shaming?!” Davina exploded at Pete whose face went red with humiliation.
“In my school?” Davina asked with anger. “You were almost expelled, Mr. Pete and yet you have refused to behave. I will no longer condone your nonsense in my academy.”
“And you,” She turned to Leia. “Your father was here yesterday! And today you are about to castrate another boy!”
“I was defending myself, he grabbed me first,” Leia replied calmly.
Pete scoffed and winced in pain and I almost smiled.
“Yulia!” Davina yelled and I almost jumped out of my seat. “You are basically new here and you have begun to cause trouble.”
“I did not even do anything!” I replied again in disbelief.
“And yet trouble follows you around,” Davina replied.
“Do you want to tell me what started all these?” Davina waved her hand at Pete.
“We dated,” I said.
“And?”
“That’s it’,” I said with a shrug.
“Wow,” Pete said with a shake of his head. He sounded hurt but after what he had put me through the today alone, I did not give a fuck about his feelings.
“You moved on,” Davina said. “And Mr. Pete here clearly did not and instead of taking his loss like a proper werewolf, he resorted to slut shaming, pathetic.”
“You, Ms. Leia just needed an excuse to cause trouble,” Davina said wearily. “Get out all of you and this better be the last time I hear of this drama. Dismissed.”
The three of us quietly left the Dean’s office and walked down the hall. I was sure the video of Pete being kicked in the balls had circulated around campus.
We reached the stairs that led to the campus ground before Pete spoke again.
“This is not over,” He vowed.
I rolled my eyes.
“Actually, Pete, it ends now,” Issa’s voice entered my ears and before I could react, Pete was screaming on the ground… his arm bent in an odd ugly angle.
My heart skipped triple beats when I saw the bones of his wrist popping out.
