~YULIA
“Why did you kill him?” I screeched in disbelief.
I helplessly watched life leave the man that put my best friend’s life in danger.
I looked at Issa in disbelief until I realized that it was Iran the beast in control. The man’s heart was still pulsing in his hands as I tried not to throw up.
Iran shuddered and his red eyes turned to green. Issa was back in control. He threw the heart at the man’s body and the thick blanket of shadows disappeared as the night stars became visible again.
Issa produced a white handkerchief from his inner suit jacket and cleaned his bloody right hand.
“He had to die, Yulia,” He replied calmly. “I promised Iran blood and blood he would get.”
I looked at the body in disbelief and disgust. “But he told us what we wanted to know.”
“Because he had no other choice,” Issa said with a nonchalant shrug.
I watched him take out his phone and he took a picture of the dead body and began to text someone. Then he turned the phone to Lana’s apartment and took another picture.
“What are you doing?” I asked curiously.
“Tell your friend to check into a hotel for the week, the clean up crew is on the way to take care of the mess,” He told me and turned away from the house.
“Hurry up, Yulia,” Issa snapped.
I flinched at how angry his voice was before I ran back into the house. Lana was curled up in the shower crying as water fell on her.
I knew that it was my fault she was in this position and there was little that I could do to make it up to her.
I switched off the shower. “Lana, baby, we have to go,” I told her gently. “We can’t stay here.”
I brought a towel to cover her body and she sniffed miserably. “Why me, Yulia?” She wailed softly. “What did I do to deserve all these?”
“It’s not your fault, Lana, it’s mine,” I said to her as I helped her out of the bathroom. “Look, I promise to explain everything but we need to go.”
“Are the cops still coming?” She asked.
I cursed silently. Why did Issa have to lie? I had already forgotten that he pulled that lie on her.
“There are no cops coming, Lana but someone is coming to take care of the mess, so you have nothing to worry about,” I assured her.
She looked at me as she got dressed.
“What kind of people are you involved with, Yulia?” She asked fearfully. She was still trembling from her ordeal.
“Lana, I told you earlier, that I will tell you everything that you want to know but we have to get out of here, first.” The last thing I wanted was an angry and impatient Iran coming for me.
Lana looked around the room and shook her head. “Girl, I do not think that I want to come back here after all that blood and what he did to me,” She said, referring to the man. “I am definitely pressing charges on that bastard.”
I shook my head at how naive Lana was. “You can’t press charges on a dead man, Lana,” I told her and her eyes widened at what I said.
She did not say anything else as we both walked down the stairs. People were already cleaning up the whole palace and the window was already being fixed. They ignored us completely as they went about their duties.
Issa’s vehicle was already pulled up in front of the house. As soon as he saw Lana, he stepped forward and handed her a black card.
“Go to this hotel, I made a reservation for you for a month.”
Lana looked at him dumbfounded but she took the card. I knew she wanted to ask more questions but she was too scared to utter a word after witnessing what Issa did to that man.
A car pulled up beside Issa’s car. “That’s your ride,” Issa announced and a well dressed man came out of the driver’s seat.
“Can she come with me?” Lana asked Issa.
“No, she is the target,” He said curtly. “It’s dangerous for you to be near her.”
“You are in danger, Yulia?” Lana asked wide eyed.
“It’s all under control,” Issa replied and nodded towards the waiting vehicle. “You are safe, Lana and that is all that matters.”
“I promise to call you,” I told her as she reluctantly entered the vehicle which drove off.
I turned to Issa. “Why did you tell her that I am in danger? She is already traumatized, do you want to give her another heart attack?” I demanded angrily.
“I said what I said,” Issa replied with a shrug as he opened the door for me. “Get in.”
“I am not going back to your party, Issa.” I shook my head stubbornly at him.
“Who said anything about a party?” The coldness in his eyes had grown more intense.
“So where are we going?”
I noticed that the man’s body had been removed from the floor where Issa had ripped his heart out. His people were working really fast.
“To get real answers from the people behind this,” He replied. “Now get in the car.”
I silently obeyed and he closed the door after me. He got into the driver’s seat and started the car.
“How are you sure that we will get answers?” I asked.
“I sent the location of where the man was supposed to take you to Miles and told him to take enough men and storm the place,” He said to me.
“When did you do that?” I widened my eyes at him.
“When you were upstairs with your friend,” He answered as he drove.
His phone buzzed and he kept one hand on the steering while the other pressed the phone.
A cold smile crept up on his face as he watched the screen and the road at the same time.
“What?” I asked.
“Miles said they caught a few witches,” He replied. “Although some of them ran away, he managed to capture three.”
My heart sank as the silence of curiosity crept into my empty cage. A mixture of emotions filled my core as I asked myself one question.
What secret was I going to find out from them?
