~ISSA
My heart exploded as I shot Davina the coldest glare.
Even Iran came alive from the corner I had pushed him to.
“Did you just threaten a living soul right before my eyes?” Jamal cut in even before I could speak.
Davina corked her brows at him as she looked him over. Almost amused that she had roused up these emotions from him.
Jamal looked genuinely angry and that angered me too. It was one thing for Davina to threaten Yulia and it was another for Jamal to suddenly become protective of her.
What was he trying to prove? Who the hell did he think he was?
I was disgusted by the way that he came to Yulia’s defence. That was my fucking job. He could haul his stuck up ass out of here if he thought bullying three women made him a better werewolf.
‘Forgive me if you took it in an offensive way, Nocturnal Detective Jamal. . .’ Davina deliberately trailed before smirking at him. “I only meant that she would be stirring up a lot of trouble with her presence. There will be bloodshed, after all, she has beauty as her slave.”
Jamal gritted his teeth visibly and I saw the embarrassment taking over his features. This actually amused me to watch. For the first time, Jamal lost control over his emotions.
“I’ll advise you to be more careful with your words next time. A Detective like me can’t help but jump to anything that resembles a crime scene.” He gritted his teeth again before falling silent.
‘I could snap his neck for you,’ Iran whispered into my head. He was a literal devil and he played that part well.
It was about time Iran showed up since he had been forced out by my emotions.
‘There will be no need for that. His shame has already consumed him.’
I could swear that Iran was smiling at the outcome of this. For once, we both agreed on one thing.
“Unless you have something better to say, I want you to stop talking, Davina. You are making my niece uncomfortable.” I decided that now was the best time to speak.
I was also glad that Jamal had fallen for the trap that Davina had set for me. But I knew that she would try another trick if she was allowed to.
Davina shrugged. “You’re no fun, Issa. Sometimes I wonder who is more grumpy; an old man or you.” Of course, she was smirking as she glared at me. “I mean you and Yulia no harm.”
I heard the Craven sisters chuckle at her words. Jamal kept his expression straight as he watched Davina’s every move.
I wasn’t ready to let Davina have her way.
“Everything about you means harm, Davina, do not lie to yourself. It’s why you made your own little club so you can continue with your fucked up experiments.”
Since she liked to play dirty, I was going to do the same and set my boundaries. Yulia was off limits.
Her smile disappeared. “You have not changed at all, Issa, still the same harsh wolf…”
“Good, then you should know you have no place in my home.”
“Enjoy your reign!” She swept her eyes over me one last time before walking proudly away.
I turned to see that Yulia had the most confused stare.
“The more I try to understand you and your drama, the more I get confused. What was she talking about?” Yulia raised her brows at me.
“Don’t pay too much attention to her.” I shook my head at her. “Davina has involved herself in something that has taken her mind away.”
“That’s a dangerous thing to happen to anyone, especially if they head the Order,” Jamal said as he watched Davina where she stood among other guests.
“Let me guess, you are going to start another investigation on her.” I pointed out.
Jamal nodded. “You said something about fucked up experiments.”
I scoffed. “Ask her yourself, detective and when you find something interesting about me, I will be waiting for you.”
“Boys,” Yulia said. “Can you get along for a second and maybe tell me what the hell is going on?”
“It’s simple,” Jamal spoke. “Lycan Issa has been in a relationship with the leader of the Order.”
Yulia looked at me with raised eyebrows. “Why am I not surprised?”
“It was a long time ago,” I said. “And thank you Jamal, good detective work.”
I almost felt embarrassed. Almost.
“It was a very long time ago, and I do not have to explain my sexual past to you or anyone.” I blurted. Iran chuckled in my head.
Yulia’s eyes turned humourous and I knew that she was going to say something with that razor sharp mouth of hers.
“It’s okay, Issa.” Her mischievous smile was all I saw. “No one is judging you, after all you are a big boy, you don’t have to feel guilty.”
I shook my head. What she said got to me but I let it slide.
“You would think after the three of us, he would just keep it in his pants but he just fucks anything that moves,” Andrea said and I could hear how possessive she was.
‘For once you’re not the hero today. Everyone is against you today.’ Iran chuckled.
I ignored him.
“Let’s get away from all this noise, I have a place specially made for us,” Andrea announced.
“I am assuming you mean all of us?” I corked a brow at her.
“Unfortunately, yes, it’s a ceremony, there are always people everywhere.” Andrea turned to walk away, swaying her hips in a very practised seductive way.
She loved the attention. The old me- the ancient me would have been red with jealousy that she was showing off herself. It had happened before.
Never again.
It meant nothing to me. The moment Iran claimed Yara as his Fated mate, she and her sister were becoming less important as the moments of my long life passed by.
Of course Jamal followed us. He had to. It was an unwritten law among the supernatural world. A Nocturnal Officer was needed in the ceremony for security purposes but why did it have to be him of all people.
“Finally, peace and quiet,” Yulia muttered.
I was guessing that she did not like large crowds. The room was painted off-white and decorated with all sorts of lewd and expensive arts.
Some looked like Andrea and some looked like her sisters. I remembered this room. I had not been here for a while. I was a little embarrassed that Yulia was seeing these paintings. I was going to take it down after this ceremony.
“Nice paintings,” Yulia said to Andrea. “How long did you hold that pose?”
“Too long, I did it for Issa’s birthday.” Andrea was enjoying being the centre of attention.
I knew Andrea said that to make Yulia upset. She did not believe that Yulia was my niece. Her instincts were spot on but as long as Yulia and I kept on with that lie, we were good.
“We need to start preparing for the next phase of your reign,” Iris finally said. She was more business like and clearly the eldest.
“Next phase?” Yulia asked.
“Yes, darling,” Iris said like she was talking to a child. “We must work on his public imagery and appearance which means you have a lot of responsibility on your shoulders, Yulia.”
“That can wait,” I said. I was afraid of showing Yulia to the public.
It was too dangerous.
“Just focus on me,” I told Iris. “Yulia is going back to school.”
“What?” Yulia exploded in disbelief.
