~ISSA
I angrily got off the bed and shook the sexual tension off my body.
“Fool.” I heard Iran sneer as I yanked open the door. Before me stood a trembling maid.
“What?” My voice was tight as I scrutinized her.
“You have to see for yourself, my King,” The maid sounded terrified. Too terrified to raise her voice.
I sighed. A Lycan’s job was never over.
I slammed the door in the maid’s face and walked to the closet to grab a black long sleeve vee neck shirt. I had worn my trousers to sleep last night because I did not want my cock poking Yulia.
I did not even sleep well because her scent and gentle melodic snore kept me half awake. I had watched her sleep for a while as I had an internal battle with the other guy inside me.
I put on the shirt and turned around sharply toward Yulia. “Stay put.”
I did not bother to wait for any of her snide remarks or defiant replies. Whatever the problem was, it seemed serious. Serious enough for a maid to interrupt my spat with that stubborn wolf in my bedroom. I had no idea how I was going to survive the coming days with that temptress in my home.
I yanked open the door as I tried to push her out of my mind. The maid was still waiting obediently.
“Lead the way.”
She nodded and I followed her barefoot to where the problem was. I cursed as I realised that the problem was outside. I should have worn shoes. It was a cold morning and the sun was just rising.
I froze in my steps as I came across the problem. It was a big problem. It was an audacity- it was a challenge. A challenge to my authority as Alpha and Lycan.
The more I looked at the abomination before me, the more rage filled my veins. I was mad at myself.
Why did I not hear anything? Magic?
Magic was a big part of my world but I hated it- I hated how dark witches were allowed to bend it as they pleased.
Yes, I was a creature of magic too, I was a creature of the night and I had a lot of blood on my hands but this right here in front of me was too far.
“Did you see who did it?”
The maid shook nervously. “No, my King. I was about to go for my rounds this morning when I saw it.”
She still looked pale and tried to avoid looking directly at the monstrosity. I had to commend her control of her emotions. Another maid would have screamed her head out if they had been in her place.
They dared to do this in my backyard?
“Who else have you told of this?”
“I came to you immediately I saw this, My King.”
“Good. Keep it that way and return to work. I will take care of this,” I told her and she bowed low before she scurried away.
“What trouble have you brought into my life, Yulia? What is so important about you that anyone would dare do this?” I asked myself.
Were they trying to scare me? If that was their plan, they failed. This only got me more angry.
‘With the way things are happening, it seems that I am going to be in the spotlight more often,’ Iran chuckled in my head.
“Do not keep your hopes up,” I replied to my savage wolf.
‘I don’t have to. Things will fall in place soon and I will permanently take over, you are too soft,’ Iran sneered.
Annoyed by his reply I shut him out, far away to the back of my mind, locking him behind a mental wall.
He did not like it when I did that but I needed to think of a solution and he was more distracting than ever. And I knew that it was because of the new additional sharp mouthed creature currently living under my roof.
Miles left at the wrong damn time. I was going to have to call the other guy- as much as I dreaded it.
I had no issues with him but I did not like the way he had been holding on to Yulia the last time. It had made my insides twist but I could really use all the help I could get without creating a scene and he was the perfect guy for this job.
Luckily for me, I had picked up my phone without even meaning to. I had no desire to use my mind link to call him here.
Iran had a habit of mentally scrambling other pack member’s minds whenever he entered their head. The last time I had mind called a werewolf other than Miles, he had lost his mind for days before he calmed down.
Iran was not only dangerous, but he was also very mischievous. . . devilishly mischievous.
The line rang once before he answered the call.
“Get here fast, there is trouble and keep it a secret,” I said in a brusque manner.
Was I mad at him? I could not tell yet.
Moments later, after I had impatiently waited for him and hoped to the gods that Yulia did not wander out here and see this grotesque scene, he came out from among the trees.
“King Issa, what seems to be-” he stopped talking as he saw what lay on the floor before me.
He seemed mildly surprised by it. “That is a very horrible way to go,” he finally concluded.
“Yeah, no shit, Jamal. How come you did not detect this?” I demanded.
He frowned and looked at the body on the floor before he spoke. “It has no smell.”
“What?” I asked.
“The body does not have a scent… which is very odd.” He squatted down beside the body taking a closer look.
I sniffed with my hypersensitive nose and truth be told, there was no smell coming from it. I could smell the grass, I could literally taste the rustling leaves of the trees and I could also perceive the cold wet dew in the air but not the body.
“It is almost like someone took away his odour,” Jamal said.
“Magic.” I cursed under my breath as I wondered why they would go this far. What did they hope to gain?.
“He is one of our men.” Jamal pointed at the shirt he wore.
“I can tell,” I curtly replied.
“This was a message.”
“Someone thinks they can scare me but they thought wrong.” I knew that it had to be the witches. Who else had been more daring in the past days?
“This message was not meant for you. It was meant for Yulia.”
I frowned at his words and I instantly hated the way her name rolled out of his tongue.
