~YULIA
A loud crash exploded in my left ear and I screamed.
“Yulia!” I heard Issa yell.
I looked up to see that I was fine. There was no blood and I was still whole. My body was still intact.
So what had hit the window?
“What was that?” I heard the Beta ask.
“Whatever you do, keep the window panes up, Miles.” Issa was now glaring out the window as he tried to figure out what had happened.
Suddenly, another thing crashed against my window, this time, on my right. I yelped and ducked my head while shooting my hands over my ears on impulse.
“Shit! We’re under attack! We’re been ambushed!” The Beta exclaimed.
“Ambushed?” I exclaimed as I braved looking up.
That was when I saw the cars chasing after us from behind. My hand came to my mouth as I registered all the men poking their heads out, carrying cannon-like-guns on their hands, ready to shoot out whatever they had shot twice now.
“Holy goddess! Holy goddess! We’re doomed! There’s too many of them. Unless you’re the best and fastest driver in the world, this is where we die,” I cried.
The instruction had been to survive when I came here. The Lycan before me was supposed to protect me. I did not sign up for any of this.
I was panicking and my body was trembling all over. All of my confidence was gone and last night’s events of the way the men dropped to their deaths kept replaying in my head.
I started breathing heavily. I was panicking and hyperventilating and I just wanted to disappear from here, to disappear and go back to the safety of my home.
Another crash sounded at the back of my head and I looked behind to see that they had launched another one at us.
“Why aren’t they just using guns to stop us?” Miles asked as he maneuvered his way through the things they were shooting at us.
“They want Yulia alive. They can’t risk the bullets,” Issa pointed out.
“Well something needs to happen if we want to get out of this, Issa,” Miles called.
That was when one of the cars rammed itself into ours. I screamed as it sent our car out of Miles’ control. It took him a while before he regained control.
“It’s now or never, Issa!” Miles screamed while I gripped the seats of the car.
My heart was hammering hard and I doubted if there was anything that the Lycan could do in this situation. We were helpless and outnumbered.
Suddenly, I saw Issa’s eyes begin to glow a crimson color unlike his usual eye color. I frowned as my wolf came to an abrupt stop.
I looked outside and saw the way the sky began to darken, as if a storm was coming. Fog out of the blue began to creep into the space until we were completely shrouded in the thick fog.
“Wh- what’s going on? H- how is this happening?” I stuttered as I stared around in disbelief.
I noticed that Miles was no longer speaking and Issa was now gripping Miles’ hand. This all felt strange and I was completely baffled.
The noise from our prosecutors had come to a stop. It was almost as if the fog had swallowed it all up.
“Find a place to park and kill the engines,” Issa ordered in a voice that carried authority.
It was no longer the Issa that I had come to know. He was another man.
Miles brought the car to a stop just as Issa had instructed. I watched in shock as he stepped out of the car and disappeared into the fog.
“Wh- where is he going?” I asked. I had still not found myself.
“When they told you that a Lycan was the most dangerous type of werewolf, they were never bluffing,” Miles stated.
As if on cue, a low growl rumbled through the area, forcing my wolf to shrink into the deepest part of my mind for cover.
I widened my eyes at Miles. “What is he going to do?” Bewilderment and fear was evident in my voice as I spoke.
“He’ll do exactly what’s on your mind. That’s the only way to protect you.”
My heart sank as I somehow understood what he meant.
That was when series of screams and terrified roars scattered across the space. I dared to look back and all I saw was a fast moving blur in the fog. I saw silhouettes of men trying to run but dying anyway.
Fear crept up my spine and I started trembling visibly. My intake of breath grew cold and shaky.
Then I saw one of the men break out of the fog and come in our direction. I could see the horror in his eyes as he sent us silent pleas of help.
Yet he did not make it far when Issa emerged from the fog and grabbed him. Issa’s eyes were still glowing the same crimson color and it was as if a distant madness had mixed with his features and he was a total different person.
He suddenly smiled as he looked into his victim’s eyes before digging his claws into the man’s chest and dropping him.
I watched in horror as he turned to face us with the blood dripping from his hand. He locked his gaze with mine and for some reason, the feeling he evoked in me felt too familiar.
Almost like the same crimson eyes that I had seen last night, back in the street. Shock scattered across my core as I watched him.
Issa soon shut his eyes for a long time. The fog began to clear as he remained standing on the same spot until everything was back to the way it was.
That was when my mouth dropped at the massacre he had left behind.
Issa opened his eyes and they were back to their forest green color. How was that even possible?
He walked back to the car, got in and shut the door without a word. I threw another glance back at the crashed cars and bodies lining the space. As I took this all in, there was only one question that kept dancing in my mind along with my wolf.
“Who exactly are you?” I dared to ask.
