ZARA’S POINT OF VIEW
The last couple of days have honestly been one of the best I have experienced in my life, and it is all because of Delvin, my knight in shining armor. I smiled to my self as I watched him from across the hallway of the students’ dining hall. He is sitting with some people who I assume to be his friends, all of them are dressed all prim and proper, they all belong to the wealthy class, all of them are either children of royalties of really rich business tycoons or big shot politicians.
Most of them are very popular online and crazily rich offline, old money kind of rich with the chauffeurs and butlers and multilingual nannies. There is Summer Dawn, who is obviously going to take over her mother’s high fashion business, she already models for so many high fashion brands from Channel to Dior, she even walked the Victoria secret stage as a Victoria secret Angel, she has the perfect size zero weight (according to unattainable beauty standards), long legs and a nice smile. There is Rowen Lightwood the son of Rodrick Lightwood a super wealthy tech company owner obviously Rowen would follow in his father’s footsteps even though he is more into creating content on social media and modeling.
I walked towards the door of the student’s dining hall, honestly it should be called the dining hall for the elite students because normal-not-so-rich students like myself are not allowed here, the excuse the University management gave was that these elite students need a space where they can just be themselves without being followed by cameras, the real reason is that these students pay heavily to have this space exclusively for themselves.
I looked at the beautiful silver chandelier, the aesthetic emerald gem stones on the walls that surrounds the big mirrors, the professionally dressed waiters all of them with the same plastic ‘I have to smile to keep my job’ smile on their faces, the daintily looking menu being handed to this elites, the unappreciative look on the elites faces for all the amazing services they are receiving.
I walked up to the two guards at the door, they looked me up and down they probably sensed that I am not as wealthy and influential as the students in the hall. I held my breath as they assessed me.
“Your dining card?” one of the guards asked rudely, he probably already knows I shouldn’t be here.
“I forgot it at home, can you just let me in just this once?” I pleaded. I just have to give Delvin this cake I made for him. Well it’s a cake and a friendship bracelet, I know that is a bit childish but I just want to thank him for how supportive he has been these past few days.
“No card no entry.” The other guard said dismissively. I looked down sad then a thought came to my head.
“I’m with him.” I said pointing to Delvin.
“Yeah right and I’m Queen Elizabeth.” The guard mocked and the other one laughed.
“It’s true, look.” I said as I showed them a picture of Delvin and I on the beach, both of us laying side by side on the beach sand, a cooler of cold drinks at our side.
The guard frowned.
“You know, you probably don’t want to make Delvin angry, he is not very kind when he gets angry and leaving me out here will definitely make him angry.” I said. Hopefully they let me in. Please! Please!
“You can go in.” One of the guard said, the other one looked like he was going to protest.
“What! His dad is a big shot politician!” The guard said shutting the other guard up.
I walked in, for the first time since I got into this university I am being allowed into this dining hall!
The place looks magnificent, three course meals were laid out on the massive dining tables with candles on fancy candle holders, there was champagnes in champagne flutes, wines in wine glasses.
The setting of the dining hall looked intimate and expensive, the hall was big but yet they all looked like a community, a community of the children of the crazily rich, of course they don’t eat with commoners like us.
We have pizza for dinner while they have Sushi, caviar, and other things.
I walked up to where Delvin was seated with his friends, I walked with the box of cake in my hand and the friendship bracelet heavy in my pocket, I smiled to myself I am sure he would love his gifts, he has liked everything I have given him till now of course he would like this one.
As I walked up to Delvin’s seat I noticed the stares from the other students from every single part of the room, they had this look on their faces like I did not belong there, some of them even had frowns on their face. A part of me wanted to disappear into thin air to avoid their stare but a bigger part of me wanted to give my now best friend his gift.
I got to his table. They whole froze, it was like the whole hall was under a freezing spell from the Harry porter movie or something.
The people on his table who I assume are his friends all had shocked looks on there faces like how dare this commoner come into our dining hall and even walk up to us.
“Hi Delvin… I wanted to give you this.” I stuttered with a unsure smile pasted on my face. I sought his face for approval of any kind, just something to convincer that I did the right thing by coming here, something to make me feel like he is happy to see me.
“I already told you to stay away from my boyfriend and now I’m going to teach you a lesson!” One of the girls on there said. I know I know her from somewhere but I can’t place where. Oh the girl from last week, the girl who poured her drink on me.
This mean girl picked up a plate of mashed potatoes and threw it on me. I flinched, tears running down my eyes, I looked at Delvin, I thought he would do something to save me, I looked at him and he was laughing.
“Nice aim baby although you should have done this instead.” He said in between laughter as took the box of cake from my hand and smeared it all over my face.
I was stunned, i knew I should go, leave the place but for some reason I couldn’t get my feet to move. Everyone was laughing, most of them already had their phones out, they videod the whole moment further immortalizing my embarrassment.
“Ugh is she dumb or something! Why wouldn’t she just leave” Delvin’s ‘baby’ said when I still stood there looking shocked and crying. Why wouldn’t I just leave?! I want to but I can’t! I feel glued in place, I urge my legs to move but they wouldn’t! I feel glued to this place, the embarrassment has glued me in place, I wish I can just disappear and cease to exist forever!
“Don’t worry baby I’ll get this trash out.” Delvin said and pulled me by my hand through the room full of rich snobs and out of the dining hand, I followed his lead not even sure what just happened or how to react to it.
“I told you not to approach me or talk to me here!” Delvin said with anger blazing through his eyes.
But his eyes almost immediately softened. I stood there crying without any sounds, how could he do that to me! What did I do to deserve that sort of treatment!
“Are you okay?.” Delvin asked as he cleaned up my face with a wipe he got from his pocket.
“I’m sorry I really am. You really shouldn’t have approached me here! Damn I told you Zara!” he said as he abandoned his mission of trying to get me clean and walked back to his friends who were now yelled his name.
I walked to an isolated part close to the dining hall and started sobbing my eyes out.
“That’s how they all are, they are all rich snobs.” A guy said as he handed me a handkerchief. I took it without any question.
“Thank you.” I said gratefully.
“No problem, I was on my way to lunch do you wanna come with?” This mystery guy asked.
I nodded, I want to be any other place but here. I want to be far away from Delvin, I can’t still understand why he did that to me? Just why?
The mystery guy took my hand into his and we walked to the cafeteria also known as the dining hall for us commoners…
