Fake Affection

Book:Billionaire Exchange Wife Published:2025-2-8

………..
As Ariel pulled into the driveway, the elegant facade of the Anderson mansion came into view, she parked the car, gave the key to the butler and made her way to the front door. The click of the closing door echoed through the spacious foyer, she crossed the threshold and the atmosphere shifted from the corporate world to the comfort of her personal space. She ascended the staircase, shedding her blazer along the way.
Once inside the room, she kicked off her shoe, release her hair from its tight bun, letting it fall in loose waves around her shoulders. She changed into comfortable house wear.
Ariel glanced at herself in the mirror, taking a moment to appreciate the transformation; she smiled and made her way down the hallway to the study room, knowing Rex Anderson often spent his evenings engrossed in his work since Fidelis Anderson was out of town. The soft murmur of his voice and the tap of the keyboard suggested that he was deeply focused on a project.
She knocked on the door and walked in and found Rex hunched over his desk and his computer screen illuminating his determined expression.
“Hey there, Devil stranger, what are you doing?” Ariel said, making her presence known to the man who seemed not to be aware.
Rex continued with his work, ignoring Ariel.
It’s obvious the devil didn’t want to talk to me. Did he not say he would see me at night. Why is he ignoring me now? Whatever, why should I care? Ariel Ann walked over and placed a shopping bag on his table. “This is the surprise I have for you.”
Rex looked up and said with a raised brow, intrigued, “For me? What’s the occasion?”
Ariel Ann reached into the shopping bag she put on the table and pulled out a small wrapped package.
“Yes for you, no occasion, just felt like getting you a little something, just me being generous to you.”
Rex Anderson glanced at the gift, he took it, tearing away the wrapping to reveal a sleek leather notebook, his eyes widened in delight and surprise.
“You should give it to me at dinner, so that grandma can see it”
“I didn’t go to the supermarket to get this custom-made for you in order to pretend to love you in front of your grandma or another Anderson member.
“…..”
Rex Anderson stared at her blankly like a child caught doing something bad.
“Yesterday, I happened to look at your notebook and noticed it was almost finished. I went to the store to buy you a cheap one at first; afraid that the young rich young master of Anderson would dislike them, so I had no choice but to buy this custom-made sleek leather notebook”. Ariel narrowed her eyes and smiled.
You should at least use the notebook, even if it is for a day, and don’t waste this kindness of mine!
Rex didn’t believe Ariel’s reason for buying him a notebook. He scrutinizes her. “Ariel Ann, tell me is there something you do, why did you buy me the notebook?”
Ariel chuckled “you’re thinking too much, tomorrow I will buy you some clothes. The weather is getting colder. Look at Andrea Anderson every morning. He wakes up to wear his coat to the office. He only wears short sleeve clothes at home. I have told them at the boutique to pick out some for you.
Rex Anderson opened his mouth but nothing came out, he wanted to tell her there was no need to spend her money as he could easily get whatever he wanted. Seeing Ariel’s excited expression about buying him things, he couldn’t cut her short.
He had forgotten how long it had been since he had seen someone worried about him getting a cold. It seemed the last time was when his mother was still alive; she had always bought him a coat and insisted he wear it.
Since he was small he had never been willing to wear a coat.
She dropped the notebook and was ready to leave, when Ariel was at the door, Rex Anderson suddenly spoke.
“Ariel Ann, are you sure there’s nothing you want to ask me?”
“Sure, everything is fine, the company is moving well these days. Stop being petty, I just want to buy you stuff. If we should say the truth, since you’ve been helping me I’ve not gotten you anything in return. Thank you for taking care of my Aunt.”
“..”
Ariel Ann opened the door, leaving the slightly stunned Rex.
