“The director is here. You don’t have to do a thing with him, just take care of him well”, with that Vivian saw herself out.
Back to the other lounge,
Suddenly, Rex felt a pair of eyes on him. He was used to people staring at him, checking him out, most especially women in whatever identity he assumed, but there was something distinct about this stare, he seemed to be familiar with it.
Looking in the direction where the stare was coming from, his eyes met hers.
Immediately she tore her eyes away from him and disappeared into the crowd.
“That took Rex by surprise, he wasn’t expecting to meet the person and the fact that she disappeared into the crowd stair up his emotions.
Rex took a sip of his wine to calm himself and act as natural as he could. He waited for her to show up before him or something, but she didn’t show up.
He suddenly felt the pairs of eyes on him again, but this time around, he had no idea where she was hiding and staring at him. He looked clockwise from where he was seated but couldn’t find her.
He rose to his feet and decided to move around with the hope that he was going to find her and punish her. With slow steppes passing between people who were dancing, he searched for her carefully. He could recognize the woman easily even with her disguise. She had a hoodie over her sweatpants and her hair left flowing.
Finally, Rex saw her but before he could lay his hands on her, she slipped off and dashed into the restroom.
The fact that she kept on avoiding him after being found out made Rex curious about what his little cat was up to. He stood like a gentle man outside the restroom waiting for her to come out. He started losing his patience when it took her a long time to come out. Finally, after thirty minutes, she appeared wearing a white dress. Rex didn’t give her any breathing space. The moment she stepped out, he grabbed her hand and led her out of the lounge. A lot of people look their way but that didn’t bother the man.
“Mister, please let me go, I mean no harm. I was only staring at you” her pleading voice came through as she tried to wrestle off Rex’s hand but the man wasn’t having it. He didn’t want her to escape and he also didn’t want to hurt her, so he tried not to hold onto her too strongly as he continued to walk down the hallway just then the room where Elvira was open.
Rex decided to take the stairs instead of taking the elevator, since his floor was just the floor above and, besides, nobody would like to use the staircase, which was a better option for them as it would avoid them being seen by anyone passing.
“Mister, please forgive me, just let me go for once and I promise never to do it again, the woman said with a teary voice which made Rex stop in his tracks. He turned around and looked at the woman and she had a stained tear on her cheek.
“I don’t have any idea of what is cooking in that brain of yours. Since you are here, I believe you have some explanation to give. Drop the act and stop crying. People might think I was going to hurt you if they see you like that”. With that being said, Rex continued to lead the way, not letting go of her hand.
They finally come to a halt when they arrive at the room. Rex dipped his hand in his pockets and took out a key card and opened the door. Once they were in, he locked the door and kept the key in his pocket.
“Mrs. Anderson, care to tell me why you were spying on me?” He asked.
“I wasn’t “she responded immediately.
“Do you care to tell me the reason why you changed into a dress? Are you trying to seduce me after running around?” he folded his arms and inched towards her. They could feel each other’s breath.
“ha! Mr. Rex Anderson, you think too much. You see, the house was boring so I chose to go out for fresh air”. Ariel defended herself.
“Really, and the only place you could come to was my friend’s birthday party, who let you in, and tell me why you are spying on me. Who sent you?”
Stupid you Ariel, you are such a fool. How on earth did you forget the devil had always been a very watchful individual; you yourself knew he had enemies which he had to be careful of.
Knowing she’s been found out, she can only gather her thoughts and try her best to act natural.
“Why are you making things difficult for me? I told you already I came on my own. Did you not see that not only did I get my clothes changed, I also have a makeup on. Who would have thought you would recognize me at once? I can’t believe I let myself get caught”, Ariel said.
“Did you come to check if I’m with any girl? Are you jealous?”
“ha! Jealous? Of course no, I’m not”. No matter how Ariel tried to act she couldn’t hide the fact that she had followed the man to know who he was meeting with, but wouldn’t it be embarrassing to say such a thing to the man who had already told her he loved someone else. What on earth was she thinking of following him here?
“Ariel Ann, I’m not stupid and I know you are not here for fresh air. Tell me why are you here?”
“…….” She stared into space, not knowing how to reply to the man. It would be so embarrassing.
She turned her back to Rex, seeing how bad it would be for the man to see her embarrassed state. Rex could tell that she was almost on the verge of crying, so he pursued the matter.
Is she jealous? No? Why would she? I’m thinking too much. Rex thought.
He sighed, went over to the bar corner in the room and poured some alcohol into a glass cup. He picked up the cup and approached Ariel, who was sitting quietly on the bed like a child caught doing something bad. She indeed did something bad though. He saw the way she was sitting quietly by the side of the smile and couldn’t help but smile.
“Have this, and stop acting like a scared kitten”, he gave her alcohol.
Without hesitation, she accepted the glass cup from him and gulped down the contents all at once. The taste of the strong alcohol made her feel warm inside. She dropped the cup and saw Rex’s face inching towards her.
“Hmmm! Why are you staring at me like that?”
“Are you not scared I might have put something in the alcohol thinking you followed me here because someone asked you to, did you trust me that much to take it and just gulped it down your throat?”
“Scared! If you want me dead, you won’t poison me once, you will give me a slow death. Besides, I wasn’t here for you. It just so happened that I came here for a few bottles of drink since you are out socializing and then I felt the need to look for a place where they had a party going on so that I can relieve my spirit by partying. So that was how I ended up at that party of yours.”
“Here I was, thinking someone was jealous.”
“Humph, Mr. Anderson, you think too much” Ariel, you weren’t jealous, you only came outside to see who the love of his life was but it will be embarrassing to tell him. Ariel thought as she looked at the man scrutinizing and analyzing her.
“Stop staring. Give me more wine.”
The two drank to their heart’s content, compared to Ariel who was already acting up from the effect of alcohol. The man was calm as he scrutinized the woman who had already passed out, “I wonder what you will do the day you find out how your mother died . I’m sorry I didn’t come to you earlier than this. Please forgive me for whatever I do in the future, even if you are my wife you will still pay for your father’s sin”. The man said a lot of things to the woman on the bed but she had no reaction at all.
