“That’s our baby girl.” He whispers.
We sit and watch her move around. She slowly begins to be still. I hope she’s ok. I wonder if anything is wrong. Leo must’ve read my mind because he said exactly what I thought.
“Is there anything wrong?”
Dickson shakes his head,”she’s fine. she could be getting tired though. If you want you can sing to her. Though its muffled, she can hear you. It might help her fall to sleep quicker.”
“I don’t know many lullabies.” I admit.
Leo rubs my shoulders, “don’t worry, I do.”
I look up at him. He seriously knows lullabies?
“Yes I do. I have younger sisters remember?” I chuckles.
“How did you just read my mind I thought I had the link closed for now?!” I said, a little freaked out.
He starts laughing but I stayed serious. I stops when he sees me but a wide grin is still stuck on his Face
“You said it out loud Mira!” He burst into laughing again, but this time I join him.
I see Dickson shaking his head but a grin on his lips. We finally stop laughing and we listen to her heart beat for a moment more.
“Why don’t you sing that lullaby you always sings to vera every night before bed.” Dickson said to Leo.
It went silent for a moment but then I heard him start to sing….
In the quiet of the night, under the moon’s soft light,
Dreams will take flight, everything will be all right.
Close your eyes, my dear, let go of your fears,
In this lullaby, love is near, drying all your tears.
The stars twinkle above, whispering tales of love,
As you drift off to dreamland, guided by the stars above.
Sleep now, little one, until the morning sun,
For in your dreams, a new day has begun.
Feel the gentle breeze, as you rest at ease,
In the land of dreams, where worries cease.
So sleep, my dear, with nothing to fear,
He sounds like an Angel! His voice is completely beautiful! Why have I never heard him sing before? His cheeks turn red and he looks away from me and Dickson I reach up and touch his cheek. His eyes meet mine and I smile.
“That was beautiful, Leo.” I say sincerely.
He smiles at me and places a peck on my lips.
“Dude, that was pretty good. You never sang to Vera like that.”Dickson says.
Leo looks up to Dickson and smirks.
“That’s because Vera isn’t my daughter.” He says confidently.
My heart melts at his words. I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Leo is calling my baby, his daughter. He really loves her. I snuggle closer to him and Dickson turns off the ultrasound machine which makes me a little sad that I couldn’t see her anymore. Dickson hands me a paper towel and I wipe off the gel from my belly. This stuff is disgusting!
Why can’t they invent a powder or something, instead of this awful gel?
Leo slides out from behind me and gets out of bed. He extends his hand and grins.
“Ready to get out of bed?” He asks.
I roll my eyes and take his hand. It takes me a minute but I finally stand up. I’m a little wobbly but I’m fine after a minute or so. Leo, Dickson, and I walk to the kitchen and they sit at the table. I’m not gonna sit down! Have been on bed rest for a Illooonnnggg time!
I waddle out the door to the porch and breathe in the fresh air. It smelt so good and sweet. I close my eyes and feel the wind blow my hair in every direction. This feels amazing!
After a few minutes, I hear the door open and Leo comes out. He wraps his arms around me and places his hands on my belly. We both stand there and enjoy each other’s company. I hum the lullaby Leo sang a few minutes ago and slowly sway. Leo follows and hums along with me.
I wish I could freeze this moment and live in it forever. I wish I could be held tightly against Leo and feel safe forever. I wish I could feel the wind gently brush through my hair like this forever. I wish I could always know that my baby girl was safe because she was nestled inside of me forever. I wish I could freeze this one moment and save it for a rainy day..
I eventually broke the sweet moment with a question.
“Leo?” I ask quietly.
“Hmm?”
“Could you teach me that lullaby?”
He chuckles and turns me around. Our eyes meet and he brushes the hair out of my face. As his fingers glide over my skin, I feel sparks explode through my whole body. He holds my face between his large hands and smiles at me
“Of course. But right now, let’s savor this moment.” He rubs my belly and looks down, leaning his head on mine
He’s right, let’s savor this moment.
“I love you, Leo.” I whisper.
“I love you more.” He whispers back.
I look up and stare into his icy blue eyes.
“I love you most.” I say.
He leans down and kisses my forehead. I snuggle into his chest and close my eyes.
This is love.
We stayed outside for hours, as Leo kept rubbing his hands on my stomach which made me much comfortable and i turn and look to his face “I love you so much Leo”, I said to myself.
