The twins walked into the house and paused when they saw their parents seated on the couch and laughing happily.
“Well, look at that. They love each other again.” Kender scoffed and Lily chuckled.
“How was school?” Lily asked.
“It was great, except for the part where Kender got detention for knocking two boys out.” Kendra replied as she walked towards the kitchen.
“Really? Tell me about it, that was so cool.” Axel said and Lily gave him a look.
“Oh, okay. Not cool.” He said. Kender rolled his eyes and shook his head.
“I didn’t mean to. They wanted to touch Kendra.”
“Exactly. They just wanted to touch my hand and you had to hit them.” Kendra scoffed as she walked back to the living room with a glass of water.
“I didn’t teach you how to throw a punch just to knock… ” Lily trailed off as her phone rang. She picked it up from the couch and looked at the caller. It was Max calling.
She was a little surprised that Max didn’t call her. She wondered why he wasn’t calling Axel.
“Max?” Lily called as she picked up the call.
“Lily. Nora’s water just broke and I am freaking out!” He yelled and Lily sat up immediately.
“Drive her to the fucking hospital Max.” Lily replied as she heard Nora’s screams.
“We are on our way already. I just called you ’cause I have no idea of what I am doing.” He said.
“I and Axel will meet you at the hospital. Just get her to the hospital, everything will be fine.” Lily assured him before ending the call.
“What’s wrong?” Axel asked as Lily got up.
“Your sister is about to be a mother.” Lily replied and the kids yelled happily.
“It is going to be a boy.” Kender yelled.
“No, it’s a girl.” Kendra yelled back with a frown.
“We have to be with him at the hospital. He is freaking out.” Lily said as she pulled Axel.
He chuckled and got up.
“Mum, who was with you when you were giving birth to us?” Kender suddenly asked and she turned to him with a smile.
“A man named Gavin. He named you guys too. No questions, story for another day.” Lily replied as she picked up Axel’s car keys and threw them at him.
“We are coming with you guys too.” Kendra yelled and ran out of the house with Kender before Axel and Lily could stop them.
They all got out and got into the car, Axel decided the kids would stay at the Blackwell’s mansion while he and Lily headed to the hospital.
The kids were upset but Axel told them they would visit immediately after she gave birth to the baby.
They dropped the twins off at the mansion and headed to the hospital.
In minutes, they were there. They got to the floor where she was on and met Max waiting outside the surgery room.
He sighed in relief as he saw Axel and Lily.
“Hey.” Axel called and nudged his shoulder.
“So, what is going on? Have the doctors said anything yet?” Lily asked and he shook his head in response. He looked so worried.
“Don’t worry. Everything will be fine.” She said to him and he nodded in response.
A while later, the doctor walked to them. It was Doctor Gerad. The look he had on his face wasn’t a good one, one could easily tell something was wrong.
Max moved closer to him and he tried his best to put on a cool expression.
“What’s wrong?” Max asked, he could also tell something was wrong.
“Your wife is fine but the baby is not. We lost the baby, we tried everything we could but there was a complication at the last minute. It had to be the mother or the child, it was too late to come to you to ask for your decision. I am really sorry.” Dr. Gerad announced and bowed a little before walking back into the room.
Max remained on the spot, Lily looked at Axel and he sighed.
He slowly moved closer to Max and pulled him into a hug.
“Hey, it’s okay man.” Axel muttered as he patted his back gently.
“I’m really sorry, Max.” Lily said, he pulled away from the hug and exhaled heavily. He couldn’t break down in front of Axel and Lily.
He was also glad Nora was okay, he could have lost it if something happened to her. He wondered how bad she would be feeling. He just wanted to see her and tell her it wasn’t her fault, he couldn’t wait to tell her how much he loved her too.
HOURS LATER
Max stood in front of the ward Nora was in and exhaled heavily before entering. He decided to talk to her alone first before Axel and Lily would see her.
She was awake, she looked at him with tears in her eyes and Max rushed to her.
“Hey.” He called softly as he sat on the bed, she burst into tears and Max hugged her carefully.
“I’m sorry. I am so sorry.” She said as she cried.
“It’s okay. It’s not your fault, you don’t have to be sorry.” Max replied as he pulled away from the hug. She shook her head in tears and sniffed.
“It had to be you or the baby and I am glad it wasn’t you.” Max said as he creased her hair.
“Really?”
“Yes.” He replied. She sniffed and he smiled a little. He needed to be strong for her. He kissed her wet cheeks and she forced a smile.
“We still have a lifetime to make more babies.” Max said.
“Are you sure you are not mad?” Nora asked and Max chuckled before shaking his head in response.
“Why will I be? I love you, Nora.”
“I love you too.”
