Leaving

Book:A Night With Him Published:2025-2-8

Before Axel could get to them, Nadia got into her car and drove off. The kids sighed and turned to their father.
“What was that about? What’s wrong?” Axel asked as he got to them.
“Kendra ran her big mouth.” Kender said.
“Hey, we both agreed to this.” Kendra replied.
“What are you guys talking about? What did you say to her?” Axel asked. For some reason, he was worried.
“We just asked her if she would get married to you and move in with us.” Kender said.
“What? Why would you ask her that?”
“We are sorry. We were just trying to make things better.” Kendra apologised and Axel sighed.
“Your mother will make her decision on her own. If she doesn’t want to move in or get married to me then it’s fine, it’s not going to affect you guys in any way if that is what you are worried about.” Axel said and Kender shook his head.
“You don’t get it.” He scoffed and walked away angrily. Axel watched him walk away turning to Kendra.
“So, are you going to walk away too?” He asked.
“No.” She replied with a smile and moved closer to Axel. He smiled and held her hand as they walked back towards the house.

DAYS LATER
Axel addressed his employees in the conference room about their latest project. Max was present in the room too.
The past few days have been peaceful for everyone, there wasn’t any drama, and it felt like everything was over. No one heard from Nadia too.
The kids were worried about her, they were worried she was mad at them and they made her leave. Axel tried calling her but she wasn’t picking up her calls. He went to her house but she wasn’t there, just her guards.
He assured his kids that she would come around and she wasn’t mad at them but they were still worried and missed her so much.
“No, give it back.” Kendra yelled as she dragged her phone with her brother.
“Let me see it.” Kender yelled back.
The employees in the conference room turned to look at them and Axel sighed.
They weren’t going back to school yet, it was best if they stayed home for a while. Axel couldn’t let them go missing again so he always took them everywhere he had to go.
Max chuckled as he watched them argue.
“Hey.” Axel called and they both turned to him.
They noticed everyone was staring at them and they smiled nervously. Since Kendra was distracted, Kender jerked the phone from her and she yelled.
Axel sighed as Kender ran around the room as he went through her phone and she ran after him.
“Daddy, tell Kender to give me back my phone.” Kendra cried when she couldn’t catch up with him. She walked to Axel.
“Kender.” Axel called sternly as she stood a little bit far from them.
“What? She keeps texting Daniel and she is smiling widely because of it.” Kender replied with a frown.
“And it’s none of your fucking business.” She snapped at him.
“Hey.” Axel called with a warning tone as he looked at her.
“Give me the phone.” Axel ordered Kender.
“Why the hell is he sending you a love emoji?” Kender asked.
“He is just checking up on me. Give me back my phone.” Kendra yelled.
“Kender, just give her back her phone.” Max interfered and he scoffed.
“Fine.” He rolled his eyes and walked to Axel, he gave the phone to Axel and he was about to go through the messages when Kendra jerked the phone from him and ran out of the conference room.
“Kendra, you better not keep texting him.” Kender yelled as he ran after her.
Axel sighed and turned back to his employees.
“Where were we?”

HOURS LATER
It was late already but Axel and his kids were still in his company. They were exhausted already, they already had a long day.
“Daddy, let’s go home.” Kendra groaned as she fell on the couch in his office.
“I’m almost done.” Axel replied without taking his eyes off his computer.
Kender also relaxed on the couch.
The door to his office suddenly opened and Nadia walked in. The kids screamed happily and got up, they rushed to her and hugged her.
Nadia chuckled and hugged them back. Axel stared at them.
“Where have you been?” Kendra asked as they pulled away from the hug.
“Busy.” She replied as she walked fully into the room with them.
“Are you mad at us?” Kender asked.
“Of course not, never.” She replied with a smile.
“But you just left that night. We are sorry.” Kendra apologized. She chuckled and looked at Axel.
“Hey.” He called and stood up from his seat.
Nadia nodded at him and exhaled heavily before looking at her kids.
“So, I came here to tell you guys something.” She said nervously and they all stared at her, wondering what she was about to say.
“I am leaving.” She announced. The kids furrowed their brows while Axel had no expression.
“What? Why?” Kendra asked.
“Well, there are a lot of things you guys don’t know. If I am here, I would have to kill your father to satisfy someone and I can’t do that so I have to leave.” She said and glanced at Axel.
“But you guys are cool now.” Kendra said with tears welling up in her eyes.
“I know. Don’t cry, baby.” Nadia replied and Kendra moved towards her in tears. She looked at Kender and he just stared too just like Axel.
“But I will be back.” She added.
“Really?” Kendra asked in tears as she held her mother’s hand.
“I will be back but not anytime soon. I have to try to settle things with the person I work for, I can’t get on her bad side because she helped me.”
“I will be back. I promise. It might take days, weeks, months, a year or more but I will come back and when I am back, I will get married to your father like you guys want and we will all live happily ever after.” Nadia said as she tried her best to fight her tears.
“You promise?” Kender finally spoke up.
“I cross my heart.” She replied with a smile and he nodded.
“Come here.” She muttered and spread her arms. They both hugged her and she hugged them back tightly with tears welling up in her eyes.
Axel slowly walked towards them.
He got to them and she pulled away from the hug.
“We will be waiting.” Axel said and she giggled like she used to years back. He smiled at her and hugged her tightly.
They pulled away from the hug and Nadia stared at them one last time, she waved at them and fought the urge to hold them again as she headed towards the door.
She looked over her shoulder to take one final look at them, then, she walked out.
