“Come on.” Axel said weakly as Lily’s hands trembled while opening the first aid bag.
“Axel, we should go to a hospital.” Lily said in fear but Axel ignored her statement.
Axel bowed his head on the counter weakly as he felt life draining out of him. He looked up at Lily who was standing opposite him and noticed she was about to cry.
He tried his best to stand upright and he did, he slowly took off his jacket and Lily gasped loudly as she saw how his shirt was soaked with blood.
“Axel, we should be at a hospital.” Lily said again but he ignored her.
“Come over here.” He said as he unbuttoned his shirt. Lily rushed over to him and stood a few steps from him.
He took off his shirt and Lily’s eyes got watery when she saw the bullet wound.
Axel put his hands in his pants pocket and brought out his phone.
“Should I call the maids or guards?” Lily asked as she wiped the tears that streamed down her face.
“Do you want the cops here in minutes?” He asked back. Lily knew it would be a bad idea to inform anyone then.
“Here is my phone.” He said weakly as he leaned on the counter again.
“I need you to call Max because I might pass out at any minute. Max will tell you what to do. The password is… ” Axel trailed off as he fell to the floor and passed out.
Lily froze in fear with her eyes widening, she stood and watched his unconscious body. She wasn’t thinking at that moment, it felt like her brain went blank. The only thing that was happening that she was aware of was that her heart was pounding.
She finally got hold of herself after a few seconds, she picked up his phone on the counter and rushed to him.
“Axel, what is it? What is the password?” She asked in tears with her hands trembling.
“Oh my God.” She cried as she tried different passwords but it was all wrong.
She had one more trial before the phone will get locked for minutes. She took in a deep breath and wiped her tears to stop blurring her vision.
“Okay.” She muttered and with shaky hands, she typed ‘Lilyana’
Surprisingly the phone unlocked and Lily squealed happily.
She hurriedly went to his contact list and called Max, luckily he picked up on the first ring.
“Hey… ”
“Max.” Lily cut him off and he paused.
“Lily?”
“Yes, yes. It’s me. Axel passed out, he got shot.” Lily said in tears and Max could barely hear her.
“I need you to stop crying and speak again so I can hear you. What’s wrong?” He asked and Lily wiped her tears and sniffed.
“It’s Axel. He passed out. He got shot.”
“What? He didn’t mention anything till he dropped me off at home, I had no idea.” Max said.
“He asked me to call you if he passes out.”
“Okay. Place the phone on speaker and do as I say.” Max said and Lily did.
“Okay?”
“Do you have the first aid bag there already?” He asked.
“Yes.” Lily replied as she grabbed it off the counter.
“The bag is a big bag, there is a zip after the first one, open that part of the bag.” Max said and she did, she opened it up.
Her eyes widened when she saw what was in the bag. The first aid bag didn’t contain what a first aid bag should just have. It had so much more. It had doctors’ tools there, tools that are used during surgery.
“Max, there are a lot of things in this bag.”
“Yes. Put on the gloves.” He ordered and she did.
“First, I need you to check if you can still feel Axel’s pulse.”
“How?” Lily asked in fear as she stared at her unconscious husband.
“Fuck. Gently place your index and middle fingers on his neck, the side of his neck Lily. Press it lightly, not too hard.” He said and she did as he said.
“Pay attention if you feel a tapping sensation under your fingers.”
“I do, I feel it.” She replied.
“Great. I already called Doctor Gerad. We are coming, you can’t bring out the bullet, just hold on till we get there. Just keep checking his pulse and try to stop the bleeding.” Max explained and ended the call before Lily could give a response.
“Oh God.” She breathed out and felt his pulse again.
“Axel, please. Just hold on a little longer.” She whispered in tears as she looked at the bullet wound.
She was too scared to touch it, she felt she would complicate it but Axel was bleeding profusely, and she felt she would complicate it.
Minutes passed and Lily kept checking his pulse, but she didn’t stop the bleeding like she was supposed to. She just kept cleaning the blood that was rushing out.
She called Max again but he wasn’t picking up his calls, she felt helpless and confused.
She checked his pulse again and this time, it was faint.
She called Max again and he didn’t pick up. She suddenly heard a car drive in and she felt a little bit relieved.
In seconds, Max and Doctor Gerad appeared in the kitchen.
“Max.” Lily called.
“I thought I asked you to stop the bleeding.” Max said as Doctor Gerad rushed to him.
“I couldn’t, I was scared.” She replied in tears.
“Fuck, move away.” Max said and grabbed Axel’s jacket. Lily moved away and he bent next to Axel.
He applied pressure and the breathing reduced.
“His pulse is weak. We need to get him off the floor.” Doctor Gerad told Max and Lily watched in fear.
“I’m sorry. I tried my… ”
“Not now, Lily.” He cut her off and she gulped.
Doctor Gerad and Max lifted Axel off the floor and carried him out of the kitchen. Lily trailed behind them.
They placed him carefully on the couch and Dr. Gerard set to work. He suddenly paused when he placed his hand on his neck.
“What? What’s wrong?” Max asked.
“I can’t feel his pulse.”
