“Hi, Lily.” He replied.
“What are you… ” She trailed off as he ended the call. She watched him as he moved closer to the tree next to her window and started to climb it. At first, she was worried he was going to fall but he climbed it like a pro.
She was still a little bit worried though.
“Be careful.” She said as he got closer to the window. She moved away from the window when he got very close, he jumped into the room and he breathed out heavily.
He was still trying to catch his breath when Lily rushed to him and hugged him tightly.
“Hey.” He muttered and breathed out as he wrapped his arms around her. Lily inhaled his fragrance as she hugged him, she couldn’t hide how happy she was to see him. She has missed him so much.
“I really need to catch my breath.” Axel said and she chuckled and pulled away from him. He let out a heavy exhale and Lily watched him with a wide smile on her face. He ran his hand through his hair and sighed.
He was feeling better and surprisingly, he spread his arms for another hug, Lily smiled happily and hugged him again, he wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her neck.
He also missed her, he missed her so much.
He was done with Max at one of his warehouses and was supposed to be heading home but he found himself driving to Nora’s house.
He badly wanted to see Lily. He felt she was sad and mad at him when she hung up the call on him in the afternoon. He had no idea why he was bothered but he knew seeing Lily would be the only thing to put his mind at ease.
They both pulled away from the hug and Lily smiled at him.
“What are you doing here?” She asked with a smile and he thought of what to say. He needed to tell her a lie. He couldn’t tell her that he badly wanted to see her, that was why he showed up three in the morning.
“I… I was passing by so I decided to stop and say hi.” He lied and Lily smiled and nodded in response.
“If you are just stopping by to say hi, are you leaving now?” Lily asked and he shook his head. He knows his wife to be a curious type and he knows she would ask lots of questions.
“No, I am not leaving yet.” He replied and sat on her bed, Lily smiled and sat next to him. She wasn’t so close to him so he held her hand and pulled her close.
Lily giggled and Axel creased her hand. Weeks ago, her giggles were annoying to him but now, he loved to hear them and wanted to hear more of them.
“How was your day?” He asked and looked at her with a questioning look. Lily was amused, Axel was asking about her day. He doesn’t seem like someone who has an interest in her or whatever she does.
“Yo… you want to hear about how my day went?”
“Hmm.” He responded and nodded his head.
“Every detail, including when you hung up the call on me.” He said and Lily chuckled.
“I’m sorry about that.” She apologised and he nodded.
“Okay, the day started off well, Nora and I made breakfast and… ” As Lily spoke, Axel kept staring at her lips and face, he watched everything she did and noticed it all. The way she rolled her eyes as she talked, the way she smiled, the way she batted her lashes. He found it all interesting and knew he could never get tired of watching her.
“Axel, are you listening?” She asked.
“Yes, Lily. Every word.” He replied and she smiled.
“And we got to your ex-girlfriend’s store and I met her. You never mentioned her, why?” Lily asked.
“Because she is irrelevant.” He replied.
“She is so pretty. She looks like a model and her skin glows a lot. I couldn’t stop feeling bad, I am ugly and… ”
“What?” Axel cut her off.
“I said I am ugly.”
“You are not ugly. Have you seen yourself in a mirror?” He asked and raised his free hand to her cheek.
“My wife is beautiful, my wife is so beautiful. You are breathtaking, I can compliment every part of you and still have so much left to appreciate. Your presence alone lights up a room, your eyes sparkle like diamonds, and your hair is luscious and lovely. You are perfect Lily.” Axel said softly and Lily’s lips parted in shock. This was the best compliment she had ever received and the most shocking part was that it was coming from Axel.
It was surprising and funny to Lily. Did Axel get swapped? Is it really her husband in her presence?
“Axel.” She called and let out a chuckle.
“What?” He asked and she suddenly frowned.
“Wait, are these all fake again?” She asked.
“What? No. It is not, I mean every word.” He replied.
“Did my husband get swapped?” She asked and Axel chuckled.
“What? No.” He chuckled and Lily giggled.
“When are you going to come back home?”
“Do you want me back?” Lily asked and he nodded in response.
“Yeah.” He muttered as he creased her hand.
Again, Lily was surprised by his sudden behaviour. She felt she shouldn’t get so excited, it could be all fake again. She already made up her mind to never believe any word that came from Axel if he continued this way, it might get hard.
“I really don’t know. I planned on spending a few days with Nora.” She replied.
“It’s fine.”
“So you missed me.” Lily said with a smile and Axel didn’t give her a response, he suddenly ruffled her hair and Lily laughed.
“You should go back to bed.” Axel said and she smiled.
“Thanks for checking up on me.”
“Anything for my wife.” He replied and Lily’s cheeks heated up, he leaned closer to her and pecked her cheek.
“Okay, what the hell happened to my husband?” Lily joked and Axel chuckled. They both laughed and Lily exhaled and stared at their locked hands.
“Am I going to cry about this again? Won’t you say mean words to me again?” Lily asked and looked up at him.
“I promise not to. I cross my heart.” He answered and she smiled.
“It’s getting late.”
“Will you leave now?”
“I will leave after you fall asleep.” He said and she nodded. He let go of her hand and she slowly lay on the bed, he sat next to her on the bed and watched her.
She smiled at him and closed her eyes to get some sleep. In minutes she fell asleep and Axel could hear her soft snores. He watched her for a few more minutes before he stood up. He was about to leave but he paused and sat on the bed again.
He moved closer to her and planted a soft kiss on her forehead. He pulled away from the kiss and stared at her face.
As he stared at her, he started to think.
