Lily watched Axel walk away, she kept wondering if she heard him correctly.
Her father’s burial? Why did he mention it out of the blue and how did he find out her father wasn’t buried yet?
Lily’s mood was ruined immediately, she wasn’t happy anymore. The memories she thought she had successfully buried came rushing in and tears welled up in her eyes.
She rushed up to her room and fell on her bed immediately, she started to cry and cried herself to sleep.
*******
THE NEXT DAY
MORNING
Lily was sluggish as she got dressed, she had a thousand thoughts going through her head. If Axel was really serious about getting her father buried, that means she has to accept the reality of him being dead and let go.
She wasn’t ready to do that, not anytime soon.
The door to her room opened and a maid walked in.
“Ma’am.” The maid called and Lily slowly turned to her as she brushed down her hair.
“Mr. Blackwell is waiting for you, ma’am.” The maid said and Lily nodded, she stood up and walked out with the maid.
She got to the living room and met Axel waiting, she took in a deep breath before slowly walking to him.
“Ready?” He asked as he got to her and she nodded in response.
He walked out ahead of her and she trailed behind him, they both got into his car and he drove out of the mansion.
“Where is the hospital?” Axel asked and glanced at her, she didn’t give him a response, she looked lost in thought.
“Lily.” He called and she snapped out of her thoughts.
“Ye… yes?” She stuttered and turned to him.
“Where is the hospital?” He asked.
“Hmm… it… its… ” She muttered as she tried to recall, she wasn’t thinking straight, she was confused.
“Lily.” He called again.
“Yes? It is the general hospital, but it’s really far from here. It’s at… ”
“I know where it is.” He cut her off and took a turn, she sighed and ran her hand through her hair.
“Wh… why? Why are you doing this?” She asked and Axel didn’t give her a response. She wasn’t really in the mood to speak so she decided to keep quiet.
The drive lasted for almost half an hour, the hospital was located in the rural part of the area.
They got to the hospital and Axel pulled over in the parking lot, he heard Lily breathing heavily and he turned to her.
“Lily… ”
“I don’t want to do this.” She said with tears welling up in her eyes.
“I… I really don’t want to do this. It’s my fault he died.” She stuttered with tears streaming down her cheeks.
Axel didn’t say anything to her, he ignited the car and drove out of the parking lot then headed towards the path they came from.
Lily started to breathe heavily as different images flashed in her head. When she was walking around the street trying to help him, kneeling down in front of her mother, crying and begging for help, and meeting with Axel when the doctor told her her father was dead.
“You have to breathe Lily,” Axel said as he slowed down, she didn’t hear him, all she did was keep breathing heavily with tears streaming down her eyes.
“Lily,” Axel called and pulled over at the side of the road, he unbuckled her seatbelt and she leaned forward and placed her hand on her chest.
“Breathe Lily, Breathe.” He tried to get her to calm down but she wasn’t listening to him.
He suddenly cupped herself to look at him, he pressed his lips to hers and she held her breath with her eyes widening.
Lily forgot all she was thinking about at that moment, all she focused on was the kiss.
She tried to reciprocate but Axel pulled away from her, she hurriedly turned away from him and wiped her tears.
No one said anything to each other, Axel ignited the car again and continued with the drive.
As Axel drove, Lily kept glancing at him.
Every time he does this, it is always when she isn’t expecting it. As she thought about it, his phone beeped and he picked it up and then looked at it.
He dropped it back and increased the speed at which he was driving.
Lily wasn’t really familiar with the road, but she could tell they weren’t heading home.
“Axel, where are we going?” She asked him.
“Just a quick stop.” He replied.
After a few more minutes, Axel arrived in front of one of his warehouses. Lily looked around and noticed men were lined up outside, some were on their knees.
The ones standing all had guns in their hands, Lily furrowed her brows as she wondered what it was all about.
Axel stopped the car and walked out, he walked towards them and had a conversation with them.
Max walked out of the building and Axel turned to him. Lily couldn’t hear their conversation and she got curious, she opened the car door and walked out of the car. She walked towards them and Max’s eyes widened in shock as he noticed her.
“What the fuck? You brought Lily?” He asked and Axel turned to her.
“Go wait in the car.” He ordered but Lily didn’t listen.
“Sir, what are we going to do about them?” One of the men standing asked and Axel turned to him.
“How the fuck did you all let this happen?” Axel asked.
“They were careless, they let their guard down. They thought the Russians were scared already.” Max replied.
“The rule is to always keep your guard up.” Axel said and they all bowed their heads.
“We are sorry sir.” They chorused and Axel looked down at the men on their knees.
“You… ”
“Axel.” Lily called and cut him off, he turned to her and Max also did.
“Why are they on their knees?” She asked as she stared at the Russians who were on their knees with fear written on their faces.
“It’s nothing Lily, go wait in the car.”
“But… ”
“Come on, I will go with you.” Max said and held her hand, he pulled her with him and she kept glancing back.
They got to the car and Max opened the car door for her, she shook her head at him and he sighed before closing the door.
“We will wait here then.” He said and leaned on the car and she also did.
“Kill them.” Axel ordered. The men corked the gun and Max knew what was about to happen next. He hurriedly stood in front of Lily to obstruct her from watching the scene.
“Max, why… ” Lily trailed off and screamed in fear as she heard multiple gunshots. Her body trembled in fear and she suddenly hugged Max.
He froze as he felt his heart start to race. He could feel it racing as she held onto him tightly.
‘Why the hell am I feeling this way?’
