Dimitri POV
…….
“I still think you are wrong!” Amara blurts out to me.
I stare at her calmly, ” I don’t care.” I say flatly back to her.
I watch her expression go from mad to confused. She must have thought I was going to argue with her about this. I already made up my mind and Sadie isn’t going to public school. So, I really don’t give a damn if she agrees with me or not.
” Dada!” Sadie says getting my attention.
I take my eyes off of Amara and look down at Sadie. She had put sand into a small pile and patted it down into a little mound.
” Good job!” I tell Sadie as I gently ruffle her hair.
I listen to Sadie giggle at me, before she hugs my side. I smile and pull her into my lap.
” What do you mean by that?” Amara questions me.
” It means you don’t have any control in this. So, it really doesn’t matter what you like or dislike.” I say looking up at Amara
I watch Amara push her lips together in a thin line, before she stands to her feet. She stares at me with anger in her eyes. She opens her mouth to say something, but just turns around storming off into the cabin.
I lean down and kiss Sadie on the cheek, ” Ready to go inside?” I ask her.
” No..” She mumbles to me. ” Play more..” She asked.
She stares up at me and gives me the cutest little face.
” Cute, but we are going inside.” I say standing up with Sadie in my arms.
” Dada!” Sadie whines at me.
Once she notices I am heading towards the cabin to go inside. She starts to kick her little feet in the air. I keep a firm hold so I don’t drop her. When I get to the sliding glass door. I reposition Sadie and hold her sideways in my right arm.
She babbles and kicks her feet angrily at me. I swear she acts like her mother.
Sliding open the glass door. I step inside and shut the sliding door behind me, before I carefully set Sadie down in the floor.
I watch as she throws herself down in a laying position. I hear her cry loudly as she starts banging her little fist against the wood floor. After a few minutes she stops banging on the floor. She sits up and sniffles, before crawling around me. She crawls up to the sliding glass door. I watch her place little hands onto the glass, and wobbly stands up. She pats her little hands on the glass.
She continues to cry until her little face turns bright red.
Guess this is what happens, when I give her what she wants everytime she throws a fit.
” Woah, she is having a full on meltdown.” Liam says getting my attention. I look over and watch him walk into the kitchen with a donut in his right hand. Watching him take a bite out of it, before he leans against the counter.
I take my eyes off of him and look back at Sadie. She has tears going down her little face. I watch as she screams angrily, before she slams her head hard into the glass.
It makes a loud pong sounds, before Sadie falls backwards on her bottom. I watch as she rubs her forehead with her little hands. She looks up at me and cries more.
” Bet she won’t do that again.” Liam says with laughter in his voice.
” Alright, someone is going to take a nap.” I say Walking up too her. I pick her up and hold her against my chest.
” Noo!” Sadie whines at me and tries to wiggle free.
” Yes, nap time.” I tell her.
She cries as I carry her to the bedroom. Stepping inside I see Amara sitting on the bed watching tv.
She stares at me than at Sadie who was in the middle of throwing a fit in my arms. I shut the door behind me and carry Sadie over to her play pin.
She will just try to climb out of her crib. So, putting her in the play pin will give her the option to play with toys or watch tv. Until she falls asleep not to mention it keeps her in one place. It will also keep her from hurting herself.
” Why is she upset?” Amara says getting my attention.
” She wanted to stay outside to play some more. I told her no and brought her inside.” I tell her.
” I told you needs to explore and play. You keeping her locked inside is only going to make her start acting out. Kids her age need to be outside and be around other kids. It will teach her to share and communicate. Kids brain develop a lot at this age. They are like little sponges.” She tells me.
” I get it. You are wanting her to learn and not miss out on all of her milestones. You want to be sure that she is learning at the same level. However, each child learns at a different pace. It isn’t right to compare Sadie development with another child.” I tell her.
” Dimitri, she is developing slower than most kids.”
” So, she is a slow learner. Doesn’t mean something is wrong with her. She is fine.” I tell her.
Sadie is developing just fine. Not all kids develop at the same pace. I been watching her closely. All of her motor skills are on point. It might be a little slower than most kids, but she is fine.
” How do you know that?” Amara questions me with a raised brow.
” Because, I read a few book on early childhood development.” I tell her.
Those early childhood development books are actually a very good read. It tells how old baby’s should be when they start crawling and walking. Even tell you when you can start feeding babies solid food.
It also says not to compare her development with others kids. She can learn to share and communicate with us teaching her those things. She doesn’t necessarily have to be around other kids for that.
” Good, did you read the part where a child needs to learn in a public setting?” Amara questions me.
” She is hitting all of her milestones. So, she is doing just fine here with me and everyone.”
” So, you aren’t going to change your mind?” She questioned to me.
” No, I am not. She is doing fine here. When she is able to start preschool. I will hire a teacher to come here. So, she isn’t going to miss out on anything.” I reassure her.
” That isn’t the same!” Amara snaps at me.
” I don’t care! She isn’t going to public school. So, stop asking me.” I snap back.
I watch Amara get off the bed and storm into the bathroom. She slams the door shut behind her.
Looking over at Sadie I notice she is watching tv. It was left on what Amara was watching. Which was Law & Order Special Victims Until.
” Wanna watch SpongeBob or Paw Patrol?” I ask her.
” No, this!” She says sniffing and pointing at the tv. Her eyes are still puffy from crying and she has a little red mark on her forehead.
I might need to get her an ice pack for that incase it starts to swell. She did slam her head kinda hard into the glass. I should also give Gabe a call to come take a look at her forehead. Incase she did some real damage.
I walk over to my side of the bed and grab my pillow. I walk back over to the play pin and place the pillow behind Sadie’s back.
She looks up at me with her puffy eyes and babbles softly. ” What?” I ask her. I watch hear her sigh and point to her blanket that was on the bed.
Right, she wants her blanket. She didn’t have to give me attitude about it.
Getting her blanket off the bed and giving it to Sadie. I watch her cover her legs and feet, before wiggling around to get comfortable.
I get my phone out of my pants pocket, before walking over to the bed. I sit on the edge as I text Gabe.
He messages me back instantly, ” I will be right over.”
Hearing the bathroom door open. I look up from my phone and stare at Amara. Her hair was wet and she was wearing a grey shirt that I had left in the bathroom. It was huge on her and stopped at her mid-thigh.
I stop staring at her legs and stare at her face. She rolls her eyes at me before walking over to the bed. She gets back in the spot she was sitting and huffs loudly behind me.
She is going to be a pain in my ass.
