As I finished eating a meal that could have easily fed ten people, I leaned back in my chair with a contented sigh.
“I feel alive.” I release a burp nosily, Adriano giggles pointing at me.
“Momma, you farted with your mouth.” He laughs further as if it’s the funniest thing in the world.
I smile, my heart swallowing with great Joy, he’s my bundle of happiness. He’s the one person I look at that keeps me going for the past months. My son and unborn daughter are my strength,
His laughter was interrupted when he releases a burp, and that too noisily. He quickly slap his mouth shot as if to keep the sound in, Camila and I burst out laughing at his surprised expression.
“You farted too.” Camila told him, pulling him into her arms tinkling his stomach. Their laughter spread over the kitchen, I watch them with the most perfect smile on my face.
“I did not, Aunt Camila.” His pronunciations aren’t correct, but understandable.
“You did.” Camila threw him up in the air, catching him easily. The scene was funny.
I was feeling the effects of overindulgence. I decided that a stroll outside would do me good, not only to aid in digestion, but also to burn off some of the excess calories I had just consumed.
I pushed myself away from the table and stood up, feeling the weight of the heavy meal in my stomach.
“I’m going out to take a stroll.” I informed them, they didn’t even bother to respond too occupied with their little world.
I made my way out of the kitchen and into the living room to the back patio, determined to get some fresh air and stretch my swollen legs.
I didn’t get far before I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me and had to pause to catch my breath.
“I should take a break,” I muttered to myself, placing a hand on the wall to steady myself. But as I did so, I felt the wall give way beneath my touch. A sense of unease washed over me as the solid surface seemed to shift and crack open before my eyes.
“What the hell.” I stepped back in shock, unsure of what was happening.
The wall continued to buckle and bend, revealing a hidden passageway beyond. My heart raced as I peered into the darkness, wondering what secrets lay hidden within.
To say I was shock at this weird discovery, what in the world. What the hell is the hidden lair.
I contemplated, I wanted to run the opposite direction, and the other part of me wanted to go inside and see what this place is about. I’m a bit reluctant, I’m pregnant for Christ sake, I would rather not compromise my life and that of my unborn child.
But at the same time, if I don’t go in and find out what is place is, no one would tell me about it, no matter how hard I ask. Marco’s home office downstairs has been sealed off for months now, and when I ask about it, all I got was….
“You shouldn’t bother about that”
Or…
“It’s nothing of importance.” Camila was the only person who was close to revealing what they were hiding, but Matthew had to show up.
Curiosity got the best of me, and I cautiously stepped through the opening, the wall closing behind me with an ominous thud. My heart flew out of my throat, the sound took me completely off guard.
I think I had a mini heart attack, I groan inwardly blaming myself for taking this risk. This could be a deadly trap, there might even be hidden weapons on the wall.
“Goodness, I shouldn’t have come in.” I muttered, I inwardly palm faced myself.
The passageway stretched out before me, dimly lit by flickering lights mounted on the walls. The air was musty and stale, almost suffocating, I had to do a little breath regulating to adjust my breathing. I could hear the faint sound of dripping water echoing in the distance.
As I ventured further into the passageway, the walls seemed to twist and turn, leading me deeper into the unknown. I felt a sense of foreboding as I realized that I had stumbled upon something out of the ordinary.
Suddenly, I heard muffled voices coming from ahead. My heart pounded in my chest as I strained my ear to hear what the voice was saying. The sound grew louder and closer, and I could make out few words.
“…. Movements… are cased.”
The other person said something, but I couldn’t pick up what he said.
“Yes, Do…” The other one replied more audibly.
My brows furrowed, these people have to be the Alfonso’s men. It suddenly occurred to me that a place like this in the Alfonso’s territory could only be owed by the Alfonso’s.
But what is the purpose of this place? Is it some sort of hidden escape route? In case of emergency, cool.
Totally a thrilling adventure, exciting.
Their voices drew closer as I approach the next turning. I stood at the curve turn, there are men standing along the wall.
“Matthew?” I called, his back is facing me, but I can easily recognize him even in the dark.
He slowly turned over to me, the surprise was evident by his tensed posture. He wasn’t the only surprised one, the other men too had the same expression.
I was grinning victoriously at my new discovery, proud of myself that I was able to locate a hidden lair. A place I assume only a few trusted men knew about, a place off limits to an ordinary person.
My victory smile slowly fades away when Matthew turned around, giving me a slight view of the person sitting behind the desk.
I felt the whole world stand still.
