POV: Miguel
I was pacing the room after they left. I still can’t believe that I just witnessed Raphael’s mom and his girlfriend acting like real ass bitches and calling my sister mean names. I’m not angry at their words, I’m just wondering why he is still with my sister when it’s obvious that he cannot protect her.
If they are saying these horrible things about her in my face, then what have they been doing to her all this while that she has no one to speak up for her?
She must have been through hell and back. No wonder she was sobbing so hard when I revealed to her that we are siblings. If only If been able to find her sooner, if only I’d been here to fight off these bitches and teach everyone that hurt her a lesson.
To think that he is still fighting to be with a girl even after his mom has made it clear to him that he would never be with her. Is he trying to make her life more miserable?
“Relax Miguel, you can sit down now, they will not be coming back here anytime soon they won’t bother us again or interfere in our investigation. It’s a good thing that they don’t know about Eloise or the girls. If they did, then that would be real trouble because they would meddle in our investigation and ruin our chances of finding the girls.” He told me calmly, heaving a relieved sigh that they knew nothing about the investigation. I stopped pacing and stared at him as if he were a clown.
“Are you fucking insane?” I asked him, glaring at him as he raised his head to look at me curiously. To think that he is just about to sweep all this drama under the carpet as if it were nothing.
“What’s wrong with you, Raphael?
Who made you this way, who broke you?” I asked him sadly. He is still not getting the point because he is staring at me as if I was going crazy over nothing.
“You need to calm down, Miguel, there is no need for you to get so upset over nothing. They are my family and I will take care of it!” he stated firmly, his eyes fixed on me, giving me a look that says that he doesn’t want to talk about it anymore. I looked at him fixedly, letting him know that I was not scared of his glares. I will not be silenced by him or anyone else.
“Your family is too toxic, Raphael. I don’t know how you deal with them, but trust me, my sister will not be allowed to face their ridicule and criticism. I will not let her deal with such toxic people, she doesn’t deserve that. I’ll advise you to let her go and marry you, the girl your family approves of.
You keep telling yourself that you can handle them, but all I’ve seen is a bunch of manipulative people, trying so hard to get a piece of you and probably control you. You may think you have it under control, but trust me, you don’t. They won’t stop until they get you to give them what they want. And while you are being stubborn and tough with them, my sister will be the one to face the heat of their rage, hatred, and jealousy.
If you really care about her as you claim, you will not let her face such hateful conflict from your family. I love her too much to allow her to suffer at the hands of your family. I will give you only one chance to put your family in order and give her the love and respect she deserves.
Mind you, I will be watching like a hawk. I will make it my top priority to pry into your affairs and find out if my sister is getting harassed or abused. One bad report from her or anyone else is all it would take for me to take her away from you. You must treat her the way she deserves, Raphael. She deserves better!” I warned him seriously as I walked out of the living room to a guest room.
“And where the hell are you going to?” he asked in frustration as I walked away.
“To the guestroom, Raphael Hawkins. I can’t look at you right now, you are so fucking annoying. I need to be alone for a few minutes; I need to clear my thoughts.” I told him as I climbed the stairs without looking back at him. Carl came back to get a few things he needed from Raphael and now he has gone back to work. So we have nothing more to do but wait for his return.
I fell on the bed the minute I got into the room. Its annoying how he lets them get away with these things. I’m beginning to think that he cannot take care of my sister; he may not be there to protect her when they come for him, and she will get hurt. I know I said I would give him a chance to prove his commitment to her, but from the look of things, I’m not even so sure that he deserves that one chance.
I can’t bear to see her suffer anymore, not after everything she has been through at the hands of Eloise and the Kendalls. I didn’t want to get my family involved yet, but things turned out as we planned it, then we are going to get them back tomorrow.
I want to take her back home the moment she gets back from that island. I know I’m being selfish because Raphael is working so hard to bring her back home safely. But it’s our birthday in two days and I want her back home with her real family so we can celebrate our first birthday together.
I could ask her to follow me back home, but her love for Raphael would not let her leave. I saw the way she looked at him and even when I told her about his lies and deceit, she still chose him over me because she loves and trusts him completely. Mom is the only one I can think of who can force her to come back home without causing a fuss.
“Hey mom, how are you doing?” I let out in a weak voice, sounding so defeated. She did not respond immediately and I smiled to myself as I recall that she is still pissed at me for not taking her calls or even calling her back since I left. She can be childish and petty sometimes. I wonder how I ended up with a big baby like my mom.
“I’m sorry, Mom, I’ve been so busy over here, you won’t believe everything I’ve been through these few days. But I’m glad I followed my instincts and came down here.” I told her sadly.
“Too busy to take mom’s calls, huh?
And why are you sounding so weak, have you been working too hard?” she asked me furiously.
“Yes, Mom, I’ve been working so hard to find Marisol. And my hard work has finally paid off.” I told her, trying not to sound too excited.
“paid off?
What do you mean, Miguel?
Did you finally find her!” she asked in shock as she waited to hear from me.
“Yes, Mom, I found Marisol. I spoke with her mom, I hugged her in my arms.” I told her excitedly as I recalled the time I spent with Marisol. Tears dropped out of my eyes as I heard her gasp in shock and sob softly on the phone, crying her eyes out.
“How could you keep that away from me? Why didn’t you call me after you found her, Miguel? Why didn’t you tell me?” she sobbed sadly.
“Is that Miguel on the phone? Did he finally find Marisol? Did he find our daughter?” Dad asked in surprise, too, his voice breaking at the end. I could hear the sound of sobbing and sniffling and I regretted my action immediately. I should not have called Mom; I should have waited until I found her. All I’m going to do is break their heart over and over again.
“How did you find her? Are you sure it’s her? How did you know?” Mom asks her usual questions, trying to be sure that I’m not mistaken. I totally understand her, they don’t want to get their hopes high in vain.
“Its her mom, I’m sure of it. I have the DNA results to prove that.” I told her firmly, making her sob even louder this time.
“Mom, please, you need to calm down and listen to me, I need you here by tomorrow. We have a huge problem, we could lose her again if we are not careful.” I told her
