POV: Raphael
I knew I should never have trusted Eloise; I fucking saw the signs; I saw her making those suspicious calls, looking as guilty as hell. I should have known that she was not ready to come clean with the girls. She is not okay in the head, I should have known that.
Like, how the hell does she plan to take them out of the city without our knowledge, isn’t that insane?
“Where the fuck are you?!” I screamed in anger as I called Carl to ask him where all the guards in the house suddenly disappeared to.
“I’m currently driving to the airport to meet up with the boy’s boss. I was called a few minutes ago and they briefed me on what went down in your house.” He explained calmly, trying not to provoke me. But I’m way past that level, I’m so fucking pissed!
“Really Carl!
Really?
You just got a call about it, where the fuck were you?
I made you my chief of security for a reason, I put you in charge of all my affairs because I trust you, I knew you could handle things when I’m not around. How the hell did this happen, how could you let this happen under your watch?!” I yelled at him angrily.
“I was in the company like you instructed, keeping an eye on your affairs to make sure your uncles and cousins do not get their hands on the family funds. I have been keeping a close watch on your family because they are our biggest rivals and they are very dangerous. I am tracing the funds you asked me to, and I’m trying to get the money back before it’s transferred out of the country. I’m doing all this because you asked me to.
Trust me, boss, I am doing everything I can; you have no idea what your brothers are planning next. I am trying so hard to keep everything in order while you are busy running after your girl and her family.” He retorted furiously.
“If you had done your job, Carl, I wouldn’t need to be running around town, searching for my woman. It’s all your fault, so fix it, Carl, fix this mess!” I yelled at him, putting the blame on him.
Don’t blame me for being mean to him, I’m already stressed out with all this. Miguel will not stop blaming me for this, I think the cops are beginning to buy his idea that it’s all my fault. A part of me thinks he is actually right to blame me. I mean, I practically forced Eloise to speak with her daughter when she clearly didn’t want to.
She made it clear that she didn’t want to tell them the truth, yet I still managed to convince her that the truth was what they needed to move on with their lives. If only I’d told Victoria about her, maybe all this would have been avoided and she would be safe in my arms right now. It’s all my fault, I thought I could get them to still retain the bond they share as a family even if they aren’t her real daughters.
“Why did you call off all the guards from the house, what if there was another attack?” I asked him sternly. He sighed deeply and I know I’ll have to apologize to him for putting him through so much stress these few days. He has been watching my back and, at the same time, handling most of the contracts from the company. To be honest, he is truly doing the best that he can, considering my absence and the workload.
“The boy’s traced Eloise getaway cars to the airport. I needed more eyes on the location, that is why I called for backup.” He responded. I groaned in frustration, pulling my hand through my hair as I watched the footage of Eloise and her thugs. I had to wait a few more minutes for the cops to review the recording and see if they recognized any of the thugs.
“We should leave here; we need to get to the airport; that’s where her cars were spotted last, right?” Miguel asked, sounding urgent and agitated.
“And do what when we get there, asshole?
Dance around the car and hope they jump out of it alive?” I mocked him, earning a deep frown and a growl.
“What the fuck are you saying, you dumbass. Didn’t your guy just inform you that their cars were spotted at the airport?
Where better to look for them than the last place they were spotted? What the hell is wrong with you?
Are you buying them some time to get away before you get serious?” He asked me furiously, sticking with his accusations that I was working with Eloise to keep the girls away. I wonder what is going on in his head, what he thinks I stand to gain from keeping Victoria and Clair away from their family, like, what will I gain from keeping my girlfriend away when I want her to be so close to me always?
“You are sick and delusional, Miguel. No wonder it took you so long to find her.” I retorted furiously, earning a punch to my cheek. I hit him back twice as hard, pushing him up against the wall and forcing him to stay there.
“You fucking idiot!
You think Eloise Kendall would keep the girls there for you to find them, you think she will leave them waiting around in an abandoned car?
You must be a fool if you think you will find them there. Look at the time on the video, Miguel, it’s been hours since they left this house, they are long gone by now. You need to calm down and think straight, there is no way in hell that we would find them in that airport, they are long gone because she has been planning all this before now.
She sold all her assets and even sold the company. I thought it was Austin Kendall, I saw no reason why she would sell off her family’s estates and company But now I know why she did it, she needed the money to elope with the girls. I’m glad you told Victoria the truth before now, I’m sure she now knows how dangerous Eloise is.
She will be more careful around her, and hopefully she will be alive when we find them. But for now we can’t dwell on the past, and we can’t follow the trail they left behind because it could be a trap. They could be trying to distract us, we can’t let them get away with this. Let’s put our differences aside, put our emotions aside and find the girls together.” I told him firmly, letting him go. He glared at me for a few minutes, but he soon looked away from me, as a look of guilt flashed in his face.
“What do you suggest that we should do?” he asked me calmly, trying to play nice.
“My boys will find out if they are still in the airport. But we can’t all go rushing to the airport on a witch hunt. I suggest we work with the cops on this one. Let them find out if the thugs she came with have a record. We need to find those thugs and hope they left a good clue we can follow because Eloise didn’t leave any clue behind.
She was so careful not to leave anything behind. Our best bet is to hope that her thugs are not as careful as she is.” I told him, trying to comfort him, more like trying to comfort myself. I’m trying so hard to assure myself that everything is going to be okay and Victoria will be fine. But the truth is that I don’t know what to believe anymore.
The recent revelation from Vera Kendall is making me realize that I have been harboring a criminal in my house all this while. She is even more terrible than I ever imagined. I am beginning to think that she is a murderer too, it’s what the report says about Claire’s parents that made me think that.
The cops are saying that even Vera and Austin Kendall do not know who her parents are because no one made any report about a missing child. The only missing baby report that came up in this city after Victoria had included a whole family that died in a car accident.
From the report the cops have on Victoria’s case, It is said that their car fell off a cliff on their way back from the hospital and they were burnt beyond recognition. If that is the case, then how the hell did they get Claire from a car that fell off the cliff. And why is her visit to the hospital always colliding with these incidents?
