POV: Victoria
“There is no need to get into the car, I just came to thank you for…”
“I said get into fucking car before Victoria!” he yelled at me, barking his order furiously. I don’t know how long he has been here, I don’t know if he had seen his cousin, Nathan coming out of the hospital, I don’t know what he has seen, what he had heard.
I’m too ashamed to look at his face, I can’t believe I’d messed things up just a few hours after he gave me the best day of my life. I got into the car and sat down next to him, my eyes fixed on my thighs. I could feel his eyes on me and I dread looking his way, I just can’t look into his eyes without feeling so guilty.
“Look, Ralph, I’m sorry I dragged you into my mess with my family. My father has been a bit ruthless with us, but he has never gone this far before. He only reacted this way because you attacked his business.
By the way, why would you attack my family’s business without my knowledge. You are the reason he is so pissed you know. Gosh, you hit him so hard!” I told him jokingly, hoping it would make him laugh and probably lighten the situation. But he kept a stern face, refusing to even look at me. I waited a few minutes for him to say something, but he didn’t. I let out a nervous cough before I continued,
“I will make sure this doesn’t happen again, I’ll make sure you never have to worry about my family problems again,” I told him firmly, aiming to leave after apologizing. But as I opened the door, he stopped me with his stern warning,
“Step down from this car, and the deal is over!” he warned. I turned to stare at him and he had anger in his eyes as he glared daggers at me.
“This is the last time I’ll be repeating this question. And before you open your mouth to lie to my face again, I need you to know that I am not an easy target, I’m not easily fooled by anyone. This is your only chance to come clean with me and convince me that I am not wasting my time with you. Lie to me one more time and we are done!” he told me fiercely, his voice carrying so much weight that I felt it on my skin. It felt as though he was beating me with his words, it hurt so bad, you can say that it even cuts deeper than a knife.
“What business do you have with my cousin, Nathan. Tell me everything!” he ordered sternly, his eyes fixed on the windshield of his car. I turned to him, my eyes filled with tears. I don’t know if I can trust him to help me after knowing the whole truth. Will he still want to be me?
“I did a job for him a few weeks ago and he’s here to conclude the deal.” I lied. He turned to me with a murderous gaze his hand tightening around the steering wheel. I was so scared that I shifted in my seat putting distance between us. He saw me moving and he scoffed and turned away, losing out the window.
“Get the hell out of my car, and lose my number. You have two weeks to pay back my money, or else I’m getting you arrested for fraud.” He threatened. I widened my eyes in shock, I didn’t know he would keep to his promise to cancel our deal. I was too shocked to react, I just say there with my mouth wide open, looking at him.
When he saw that I wasn’t planning to step out of the car, he opened the door and stepped out of his car. He came around to my side of the car and opened the door angrily,
“Get down before I drag you down myself!” he yelled angrily, holding the door wide open for me. I thought he was just bluffing, but when he grabbed my arm to pull me out of his car, I realized that I could lose him if I didn’t open up to him.
“Your cousin left me I. You room that night and now he wants me to spy on you and report back to him!” I yelled out quickly before he could lift me out of his car. He stopped trying to pull me out, his gaze softening a little. I shivered when he banged the car door so hard before coming around to sit next to me in the car.
“Go on,” he urged me, sounding firm. I decided to be open with him, it’s better I tell him the truth now or risk losing everything. They say he is brutal and ruthless, but if you ask me, I think he is way better than Nathan and my father put together. He listened as I told him everything from when Lisa called me for a job and how his brother ticked me and used me to set him up.
“I wanted to walk away and put everything behind me. But he said he had my pictures and videos from that night and he threatened to release them on the internet if I don’t work for him. Lisa told him about my family and now he’s threatening to him my mom and my sister too. I didn’t want to do it, I swear.” I confessed sadly, looking so pathetic.
“Why was he here today, did you have something to report to him?
Were you spying on me while we hung out in the mall?” he asked me angrily, his eyes now fixed on me. I shook my head,
“No, I wasn’t. If I was there to spy on you, I’m sure you would have found out, wouldn’t you?” I asked back. I looked at me for a brief second, then he picked up his phone and dialed a number. I felt so scared, I thought he was calling his grandfather to tell him the truth. I almost panicked until I heard Carl’s voice come up,
“Yes boss,” he let out calmly.
“Trace the money and find out where it was hidden. Be fast about it, Carl, that money must not be transferred to a foreign account, I need it reversed and returned back to the company’s accounts. While you are at it, distract Uncle Reynold and make sure he doesn’t leave his house on time tomorrow. I want to break into his office and find anything that could link him to that company. All this must be done before we leave tomorrow, got it?”
“Yes boss, I’ll get right on it,” he responded firmly and ended the call. He turned to me once more and asked,
“Why was he here, today. What did he want?”
