Still Mavericks POV
“You mean you are not furious at me or my sister anymore?
I thought you said we are traitors, you said you will never forgive us because we are allies with your enemies, and not only that, you claim we are enemies that wish to take you down for our personal gain. You said you were going to tell our father exactly what we have done, and you swore to hurt Cameron and I and make sure we never had peace. You were so convinced that we were after your life, and now you are acting as though you never said those hurtful words to us. I’m not buying this new attitude of yours, I won’t believe that you suddenly decided to forgive us just like that, without bringing our father into this matter. I’m already used to your hurtful words, but I wanted dad to hear it too.” Shane lets out firmly, trying to get me to keep talking.
I guess he knows that I’m just faking it, and now he wants to expose me by making me look stupid in front of my guards and his father. I ignore him, and I dipped my hand into my pockets as I locked my fist tightly, trying so hard not to lose my temper. My finger was digging into my palm as I tried to stop myself from punching his stupid face and showing him the anger that he is talking about.
“He’s right, Mav, you were acting a bit strange today and you threatened me, Maverick, you fucking did. And now you want us to believe that you suddenly have a change of heart and you now wish to treat us better?
That is absurd!
I do not believe it at all. Like, what made you change your mind, what happens Mav, why did you suddenly have a change of heart?” Cameron asked, sounding as confused as her brother.
“Come off it, you two. He said it was a misunderstanding and now he had it all figured out. Why do you get rid of the negativity and bad energy. You need to understand that he is not perfect, he makes mistakes as well. Now, why don’t you kiss and make up so we can all get out of here.” Harold let out nervously. I smiled at his reaction, I know exactly what is wrong with him. Hunter was giving off an intimidating aura that was making him feel uncomfortable. I almost laughed when I noticed the anger in his eyes. His kids have no idea that he is having a hard time standing out here with me. I think I’m the only one that noticed his nervousness, the others were busy trying to figure out what I’m up to.
“Do you really mean that we are not your enemies anymore?” Cameron asked me, trying to sound excited, but her voice came off mean and disappointed. I guess she was actually expecting me to call off our relationship so she would have an excuse to be with the guy she loves. Too bad I’m not ready to end things yet, I’ll make sure I make their lives as miserable as they were trying to make mine. And by the time I’m done with them, I’m sure they’ll be sorry for ever plotting against me and my family.
“I have a meeting in the office, I’m just waiting for Leroy to come down here, I’ve got a project I need him to oversee in the pack house. I would never do anything to hurt you, Cam, and I’m sorry I acted like a jerk earlier. I have no idea what came over me.” I told her, pull in her into my arms.
“Yay, I’m super excited.” She let out in a sarcastic tone, making me laugh at her reaction. She agreed to meet me up for lunch tomorrow and they all left the pack house, with Harold looking back every minute and wondering why he was so nervous to be around me.
“Thanks, Malia. I really needed the support.” I let out through our mind link, speaking directly to Valerie’s wolf, Malia. I know that Hunter is a strong and powerful wolf, but there is no way he could intimidate Harold Armstrong with his aura because Harold doesn’t have his wolf yet, so he can’t feel Hunter’s domineering aura. But Malia is not just the future Luna. She is the last healer and she has the power to reach into his mind and influence his wolf to comply. She manipulated him to feel her strong aura, and he felt so nervous and scared. The worst part of it is that he doesn’t even know the reason why he is feeling nervous, he has no idea that Val could influence him this way.
“You are welcome, Mav. That is why we are here, it’s our job to help you get rid of every traitor in the kingdom, and that is exactly what we are going to do.” Valerie responded through our mind link, sounding so calm and peaceful. No matter how worried I was, I always get calm when I hear her soothing voice.
“I miss you.” She let out warmly. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling so widely whenever she gets all clingy and romantic. As much as I want to be with her right now, I know it’s not possible at the moment because we needed to head back to the suite we both occupy. It turns out that Charlotte and her team are not working with King Gerald. Even Cameron and her brother are not working with him as well. Every one of them has their selfish agendas, but as long as it doesn’t involve king Gerald, I believe I can handle each one of them, I can take care of them and put them in their rightful place.
But if king Gerald is involved, I’ll have no choice but to take off with Val and run as fast as possible. If king Gerald was already involved, I’m sure our lives would be miserable already. But since he is not aware that I have found her, it’s better we return to our normal lives to avoid suspicions. I’m sure his spies would be wondering where I am already. If it is reported to him that I’m missing, I could as well be expecting troops of lycan warriors in my pack house. It’s best if I return to my house and continue dealing with the Kellers and the Armstrongs. It’s better I deal with them than dealing with King Gerald. I can only deal with King Gerald after I mate with Valerie and my wolf shifts and become stronger. When I solidify our bond, then we can come out openly and face the tyrant king that has robbed us for years.
Besides, I can’t face him alone. I need the rest of the pack to regain their senses and fight for our freedom. On the wolf moon, which is like a month from now, after the curse is broken, everyone would have their wolves, and they would stand with me as we challenge the lycan king. But before then, I’ll keep protecting my Val from her family and others that are searching for her. And most importantly, I’ll try as much as possible to keep king Gerald out of this city until I’ve mated with Val.
“Get your things together, Val. I’m coming to pick you up and take you back home. We need to keep pretending to be enemies so we don’t arouse suspicion.” I told her firmly. There was a long pause on her end, I guess she likes it better when we are not pretending to hate each other. She is getting used to having me all to herself, same goes for me as well. I’m loving her company when we don’t have to pretend to hate each other. But we need to think about our people first, it’s our destiny.
We arrived home that morning, I felt burdened by the curse once more. It’s the same way I felt when I was with her last night, so I knew it was the curse once more. I just left her to have fun around the house while I coordinate with Leroy and my scientist to seal off that basement. Who would have thought that we’ll have some unwanted visitors?
