Mavericks POV
I watched everything, right from the beginning. I was so pissed when she agreed to go home with him, I know it’s all my fault, but I still couldn’t let her go. I acted tough when she was still in the room because I hoped she would change her mind. She tried so hard to get me to acknowledge her as my mate. I know she understands the risks, I know she is trying to be careful and she did not let her aura attract attention before masking it. But at the same time, I still need to be careful because I still don’t understand what is going on here. A part of me still thinks that she would come back to her senses and change her mind, but that never happened. When I ignored her and let her think that I’m not heating her in my head, she made up her mind and walked out with him, sighing and hissing as they left my private booth.
“Are you really going to watch me walk away with another man, you don’t care if I let him fuck me all night?” she asked me, sighing weakly as she looked at me hopefully, trying to get me to change my mind. I saw the defeated look on her face when she didn’t get any response from me. She let him lock his arm around her hips as he led her out. She didn’t leave without saying some last words to me, very annoying words at that.
“Fine!
Ignore me all you want, but don’t you dare blame me for anything that would happen tonight. I’m going to ride this guy all night long. And guess what, it’s going to be your fault!” she told me furiously as they walked out the door together. Her words created a mental image in my head, an image that nearly drove me insane as I watched them leave together. I imagined her on top of him, riding him all night as she claimed. That image made me growl furiously and I picked up my phone and car key as I got up from the couch, pushing the stripper away with a large tip.
“Are you leaving because your business partner has left, or is it because she is no longer here?” Cameron asked me angrily, making no attempt to hide her hatred for Valerie.
“Take a cab home, I’ll see you when I see you,” I responded brusquely, ignoring her stupid question on purpose. I walked out of the private booth without sparing her a second glance. I used my private elevator to get to the ground floor. I could hear her brother’s voice as I walked away, I don’t know what he is telling her, and I don’t even care about it. All I could think of is Valerie, and I intend to respond to her through our mind link and tell her how sorry I am for hurting her and denying our bond. I got out of the elevator in record time, and I walked as fast as I could so I could meet them at the parking lot before they got into the car. But the moment I stepped out of the door, I felt a sharp pain in my head, it felt as if I was hit with a spell.
I had to hold my head so tightly as I screamed in pain and fell to the floor. It felt like a migraine, but so much worse than an ordinary migraine. Just when I thought that the migraine was found down a bit, I was hit with a pungent smell that I couldn’t recognize, and at this point, I felt as if I wanted to die because I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t even call out for help. I seem to have lost my breath and my voice at the same time. I lay on the floor, gasping for breath and trying to call for help, then I heard Hunter’s voice in my head,
“You fucking idiot!
Snap out of it already!
You are not dying, you are just having an awareness attack, not a panic attack. Valerie is the one in pain, she is under attack, you have to save her.” He scolded me furiously. His words were enough to bring me back to reality, I tried calming my breath, and it worked. When I finally got up from the floor, I reached out to her through our link that I’d been trying to hide for a long time. Before I could say a word to her, I heard her voice in my head,
“Mav, I need you…
I need you now… Help me, please…
I don’t feel okay, I’m in pain!” she let out weakly, sounding urgent. I guess Hinter was right after all, I’m not in danger, but Mia is. She must have taken something that her body is reacting to, or maybe she has been caught by one of these guys that won’t stop trailing me everywhere. The thought of her being dragged out of this place is enough to jerk me back to reality. I summoned my wolf, immediately, I need to use my heightened senses to know her present location. I know it’s quite risky, any of the Lycans around could pick up my aura and locate me instead. If they find out about Hunter, I’m sure they would kill me before I have a chance to meet with King Gerald. They’ll probably be given trophies for taking me out.
I was able to pick up her scent, so I hastened toward her direction, and I saw her standing by the exit with Liam standing right next to her. She looks pale, and I can tell that she is struggling to stay on her feet because she kept staggering back and forth, looking like someone drunk or high on something. I stood by the corner, hiding in the shadows as I strained my ears to hear what she was saying to him,
“I can’t do this, Liam. I’m so sorry, I just can’t do it. This is so wrong, it feels so wrong,” she told him through ragged breadth. It felt like she was choking, I’d felt it a few minutes ago as well, and I thought I was being choked to death as well. I wonder what could have happened to her between the time they both left my private booth and the few minutes it took them to maneuver through the crowd of people in the club and come out of the building. I had the urge to run up there and get her away from him, but I couldn’t make any move yet because I don’t know what he is up to. For all I know, it could be a plot to get me to react, they could be trying to provoke me into action so they would know if she is the one.
Roy had told me that Liam had a bunch of guys in his suite, yet when I asked him, he claimed that he is there alone. I think he is up to something, and I decided to hold back from attacking him, I need to see what he is up to, I want to see how he reacts to what she just said to him. I don’t know if the fresh air outside has brought her back to reality, or may her wolf is kicking against her decision, but I’m glad she is rejecting him now. My heart did a summersault in excitement when she told him she wasn’t going home with him anymore.
“Are you okay, what’s wrong babe, do you need something, should I get you something?” he asked repeatedly, but his questions seems to be making it worse for her, she kept coughing and checking on air, and I could tell that she was trying to get away from him, but he wouldn’t let her go. He kept invading her space, acting all cool when in reality, he was as furious as hell. I can sense his aura, and it just doesn’t seem right. He was acting all cool and calm, but his aura was coming off as furious and vicious, like a deadly creature.
“Get away from me, Liam. I need space, I can’t fucking breathe.” she let out once more, and it came out through her raspy breath, making me more curious about her situation. I kept asking myself if she was poisoned or what, because she is not acting so strange and abnormal. I haven’t witnessed something like that before, it felt so weird, I had to find out what is going on with her, so I stayed back and watched. I heard him calling her names, telling her how much he hates her. He blames her for ruining his life, and he is here to take revenge on her.
Damn, he’s so good!
He could get an Oscar for being the best actor. Everyone fell for his lies, including me. I thought he loved her, I thought he was here to take her back and get her away from me. Who would have thought that he only wanted to hurt her and make her pay for leaving him. He looked so angry, and I wondered how he was able to bottle up this anger for so long. I could tell that he was trying to get her out of the parking lot, he kept leading her in the direction that he wants her to go, and she blindly followed his lead.
I know she is not acting in her right senses anymore. She seems delirious, and I felt so sad to see her this way. I took a good look at the situation, and I realized that he was leading her into the darker part of the parking lot, which is the parking space for my management personnel. No one comes to this side of the parking lot, except the club was closed for the day. It’s always quiet and lonely here, and I knew he would hurt her when he is alone with her. So I decided to take another path and wait for him in a hidden spot behind the cars. I maneuver through the cars, trying to evade the cameras and the thugs that are on my trail. I found a good spot behind an SUV and I crouched beside the car and waited for his arrival. In my heart wondered which of my employees owns this SUV, but I pushed that thought away and focused on my mission, which is, saving Val.
I stayed quiet, and I listened to every sound around me, waiting for their arrival. I could hear his voice as he ranted about the things she made him go through. She kept trying to get away from him, begging and pleading for mercy like a fucking nobody. At the same time, she still called out to me through our link, begging me to save her from this lunatic. I peeked at them from my hiding spot, and I saw her looking disheveled and weak. That got me so posted, and I was about to show myself and punch him in the face, but I held back immediately when I heard a guy’s voice coming from the SUV,
“Do you think the belladonna is doing the job, why is she still walking, should we have used the Wolfsbane?”
