Val Gets A Purple Envelope

Still Valerie’s POV
“Wait!”
He called out to me, stopping me from taking another step. I felt my heart beating faster as I stood in the same spot, dreading the outcome of my angry outburst. I could hear the sound of his heavy footsteps, and I wondered why he asked me to stop, I kept asking myself, is he going to punish me, will he hurt me in front of everyone and call me a liar?
“Your attitude suck, Valerie!
And if you are going to work with me, you will have to lose that nasty attitude of yours, and you must learn to be submissive and obedient. I won’t have you talk down on me and my company, you must learn to respect me and my woman.” He warned. I gazed at him and his woman like he claims. She has a smug smile on her face as she stood behind him with pride, listening to his words as he warned me to be submissive.
“Yes Maverick, I’ll be submissive to you, and I’ll fucking do my job. Just give me the damn job and a fucking roof over my head!” I responded. I had a smile plastered on my face for everyone to see, but between us, we both know that I wasn’t smiling for real, I just faking it.
“You have to be submissive to me as well. I am the…”
“You are nothing to me, Cameron, I owe you nothing. If you want my respect, you have to earn it. We both know you don’t deserve respect from anyone in this pack, don’t we?
Don’t forget who you are talking to. I can get you kicked out of this fucking packhouse and your precious Alpha will not hesitate to have you replaced in a few seconds!” I told her plainly, making her eyes go wide in shock. It’s a good thing that the Alpha was not standing close by to hear what I have to say to her. He had turned around to head back to his former sitting position to pick up an envelope and give me my job offer. Cameron decided to show me who is boss, she came to me and divided to demean me in public. But I didn’t let her subdue me, I gave it back to her hot hot, and I sealed her mouth for good this time.
The stage was a bit higher and we weren’t using microphones right now, so I’m pretty sure that everyone in the hall was not hearing everything we are saying to each other. I’m sure that they would have been wondering why we were so angry at each other, to the point where we had to use threatening words to communicate with each other. They can’t strain their ears to hear what we are saying because they don’t have their wolves yet, even Janelle that was standing a few feet away couldn’t hear us. And even if she heard us, I’m sure she doesn’t understand a thing about what we are saying.
Cameron scoffed at my threats, then she took a step backward, giving me my space. I could see Alpha Maverick coming towards me with an envelope, but it wasn’t the color I was expecting at all. Janelle had mentioned Brown, yellow, blue, and white envelopes. Those were the colors of envelopes that I have been seeing with everyone that came here for a job. I have never seen anyone leaving this stage with a purple envelope, and Janelle never spoke to me about a purple envelope and the job it will get me.
“Get ready to work directly under me and be miserable!” He let out mockingly as he handed me the envelope, smiling brightly as he gestured to the guys to bring him the microphone that he had abandoned with them when he stopped me from walking out of the stage. With the way he is smiling, you would never believe that he just threatened to make my life miserable just now. He put his arm on my shoulder, leading me to the front of the stage for everyone to see me holding the envelope, or so I thought anyways. I felt something when his skin touched mine, but I couldn’t think straight right now because I have no idea what this guy is up to.
“No, No, No, Mav.
You can’t give her that job, you can’t give her the purple envelope, that job is meant to be mine. I thought you were planning to give it to me?” Cameron let out angrily as she saw me flaunting the purple envelope. She pulled him away from me, pulling him to the corner to express her dissatisfaction, but I still heard her anyway. I eavesdropped on them using my enhanced hearing. I hope I’m not caught by the lycans that are after me and that guy that makes my heart beat faster.
“Oh come on, love!
You are my betrothed, and you are going to be my Luna. Why would you want to work for me as well?
As far as I’m concerned, you don’t need this job, or any other job for that matter. You have everything you need, and you are meant to be treated like a queen and not a common omega.” He real with a smile that looks forced. I can tell he is faking that smile, and so can she.
“Fine, Maverick. Even if you won’t let me work with you, I still don’t want her to have that job, I don’t want her to have that job, I can’t stand her being so close to you every day. She can have the white or blue envelope, I really don’t care, but not the purple envelope, my love. Please don’t give it to her.” She pleased pathetically, leaning to kiss him. But he turned away from her lips, rejecting her kiss.
I almost laughed at his reaction, but I had to maintain my composure, besides, all these talks are making me more curious about the job he is offering me. For once, Cameron and I agree on the same thing. I would rather get the blue or white envelope than this purple one that is causing so much tension between the Alpha and his slutty girlfriend. The fact that I don’t know the job he is offering me is even making it more difficult for me to accept this envelope with all my heart.
“I like her confidence and composure. She is strong, fearless, and outspoken, and she has everything I need in an assistant, I want to train and mold her to serve me better. I believe she would do well beside me, and I know she qualifies as an assistant. Is there a reason why you would want to keep me away from her, is there something you would like to tell me, something she knows that I don’t know?” he inquired curiously, sounding suspicious.
“No!
Of course not!
Why would you even ask me that?
I mean, what are you thinking, why would you say that to me?” she asked nervously, looking him straight in the eyes.
“Sorry for asking, my love. I just wanted to be sure. Now get out of my way, she is getting the job, and I’m about to introduce her to everyone.” He let out smugly, pulling her aside as he walked towards me with that smile that looks so hostile and scary. I hear him saying something about an assistant, and I’m hoping it’s not what I’m thinking because that would be the worst job ever. He led me to the front of the stage and he accepted the microphone from one of his boys, and he spoke into the microphone, addressing the crowd.
“On behalf of doctor Dominic and myself, I would like to formally apologize to this beautiful lady for making her jobless and homeless on the same day. It was not intentional, I promise you. I would never have approved that demolition project if I knew that the occupants of the building were not given prior notice to vacate the premises.” He lied effortlessly. I scoffed and shook my head in amazement. This guy deserves an Oscar for the best actor, I kid you not. I can’t believe that he has turned my situation into the highlight of this party, he just made me look like a charity case, and everyone was buying his act as if he is the most generous Alpha that ever lived on earth.
“On that note, Valerie, it is my greatest desire to offer you the only job in my company that comes with a car and a very nice suite, right next to mine…
It’s is my honor to introduce you all to my new personal assistant!” he let out proudly, earning him some cheers and a round of applause from the crowd. And a deep frown from me.
“I don’t want this job, I can’t do it.
I can’t be your personal assistant, I can’t bear to see your fucking face every damn day.” I muttered inaudibly, while keeping a straight face and smiling at the crowd. I wasn’t expecting him to hear my complaints, but he did. And he leaned away from the microphone and whispered in my ears,
“You ungrateful bitch!
You had better accept this job before I strangle you to death on this podium. You are getting on my last nerve, Val. I won’t be held responsible for my actions if you dare to embarrass me in public.” He warned through gritted teeth, then he turned around and smiled at the crowd, earning him more cheers and applause.
I stood there like a fucking mannequin, smiling like an idiot. After a few minutes, he gave me his card and asked me to call him when I get home tonight. I stepped down from the stage and I headed straight to my seat, smiling at everyone that sympathized with me and congratulated me, trying to feign happiness. But deep down in my heart, I was the saddest person in this hall. How could he offer me a job as his PA, is he looking for an excuse to have me killed?
“Val, I’m so sorry, I had no idea that you lived there, I didn’t even know you when it happened. If you would let me, I would love to make it up to you, I would do anything you require, as long as it makes you feel better.” Dominic offered, looking sad and guilty.
“It’s fine Dom, I don’t want to talk about it anymore, I have a job and a house now, that is all that matters.” I responded brusquely, ending the conversation with him. I was feeling strange, and when I turned around, I saw many girls in the hall, glaring daggers at me. They would kill to be in my shoes right now, and I totally understand that. I just hope they don’t take it too personally, because I never asked for this job, and I don’t even want it. If there was a way for me to exchange this job with someone else, I would do it without second thoughts.
How on earth can I work with this arrogant Alpha?
Gosh!
I’m so fucking dead!
I spotted Janelle walking down the podium, looking excited as she flaunted her white envelope to me. She had gotten the job she was praying to get. She gets to work on the Alphas VIP floor as she wanted. She ran towards me and engulfed me in a bear hug, holding me together with my seat.
“Now, aren’t you the lucky one?” she teased me, making me growl in anger. I shrugged her off and stood up from my seat, heading out in anger. She ran after me, looking so surprised.
“What the hell is wrong with you?
You know you can’t leave the hall before the Alpha, don’t you?
For fucks sake, you are his PA, you can’t go home before your boss. You should know that, Mia. You got all you wanted and more. You have a car, a house, and a job that every girl in this hall would kill for, including Cameron. Why are you acting this way?” she inquired.
“Well, since you know so much about being the Alphas PA, why don’t we exchange envelopes, Janelle? We can switch jobs if you like, I really don’t mind, and I know the Alpha won’t mind as well.” I coaxed her, trying to get her to accept my job and give me hers. I don’t care what her job is, I would rather be a janitor than the Alphas Personal Assistant.
