Chapter 10
Valerie’s POV
After Jade left my office the previous day, I was so despondent that I wept for a while before I left the store. I got home, feeling so miserable. I called Claire, but her line was not reachable.
I missed Damian’s calls on purpose because I don’t want to get any explanation from him. I felt used and that was the worst part of it all.
I was about to sleep when I heard the sound of a car driving in. I looked out from my window and saw his car.
I had to suppress the urge to open the door for him. The memories of our first night flooded my mind again as I sobbed.
I just laid on the rug in the sitting room and whimpered. He knocked and shouted my name countless times but I didn’t respond.
I got up and turned off all the lights because I wanted him to leave. After about thirty minutes, I didn’t hear anything again. I sent him that text message with pain in my heart.
This morning at 10 am, Claire’s call woke me up.
“Hey, Girl,” Claire sounded thrilled.
“Hi,” I said in a very dry tone.
“What’s up with you? You sound like you just woke from the dead” she said as she giggled.
“I’m fine, Claire. Just a little headache”
“Ouch, I’m sorry about that. Anyways, hope you are ready for your trip? Your flight time is 2 pm. I’ll come and drive you to the airport by 12 pm. I’m so excited for you because I believe that you are going to have so much fun!” I simply smiled at her naivety.
“Claire, I cancelled the flight.” I waited for what seemed like ages before continuing.
I’m not going anywhere again. I decided to stay back and sort some things out. I’m sorry for the money you wasted. Don’t worry, that won’t be a problem. I’ll refund you.” I said solemnly.
“Val, what’s wrong? Why? It’s not about a refund, we are not talking about that just yet. Why did you decide not to travel?” she queried.
“I’m sorry, Claire. You are always on the lookout for me but I keep messing things up. I’m just so stupid…I’m sorry, Claire.” I said as I began to sob.
“Val, tell me what the issue is. What is wrong? Talk to me. You know what? I’m coming over at once, Okay?
“Claire, you don’t have to. I’ll be fine. I assure you.”
“Val, I insist. I’m not changing my mind. You’ll see me in fifteen minutes.
“Okay.” And the call ended.
If I hadn’t been so foolish, I would have been packing my bags to go on a vacation.
Ding Dong.
I got a notification from my phone. It was a text from an unknown number.
“Hi, Val. This is Damian. I’m sorry for what transpired between us. I know that I should have explained things to you earlier. Allow me to redeem myself.
“Please can we talk? Meet me at Kingston Hotels by 8pm. I’ll be waiting for you.”
