Isabella
It was Monday again, and we were back to our usual routine, work, home, and bed Typical, right? Emily was going back to Italy today, she said she had a business to finish there. We talked briefly while I helped her pack and her energy was amazing and warm. I rushed out of the shower and quickly got dressed in a Cameo Vest High Waist trousers set in Beige color, and picked black pointed heels to go with. I grabbed a black bag and then sat in front of my vanity to style my hair. I grabbed a curl iron, and decided to give my hair a little curl to add more volume, after that I did a center parting before trimming the length a little.
I grabbed my bag, organized it then sprayed myself with perfume, before staring at myself in the mirror.
“Good,” I smiled applying my lip gloss, before leaving the room. I got downstairs and I could see Emily’s suitcases downstairs already. I looked into the kitchen to find everyone working, while I walked to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water before going to the dining room.
I dragged a seat and sat on it, had my bottle of water, and then brought out my phone to respond to a few messages. I sighed when I heard chatter and laughter coming from behind me, and I could tell it was them.
“Good morning Isabella,” Emily said cheerfully, from behind me.
“Good morning,” I smiled at her and turned to respond to her greetings when I locked eyes with him.
“Good morning,” a light blush appeared on my face, cause I could feel the hotness on my cheeks. But thankfully my hair could cover it up, from their eyes.
“Good morning,” he smiled and had his seat, his gaze not leaving mine for a second.
“You slept fine?” He asked and swiftly took the bottle of water from my hands, sipping in a little content.
“Yeah I did, what about you?” I turned to him, as he sat beside me, which made my stomach tingle a bit.
“I slept fine too,” He chuckled and continued to stare at me. I didn’t have anything to say again, and I guess he didn’t too. Because we stayed like that for a few minutes just looking at each other without saying anything.
“Was this what it was like? Was this how it truly felt? To like someone? Was this how it felt?” I thought still gazing at him when our food was served and we had to take our eyes off each other.
“Finally,” Emily remarked and started to enjoy her meal, while I stole a glance at him one more time before I started to eat.
We ate in silence, savoring the taste of our meal as only the sounds of our forks, cluttering with the plates could be heard. A few minutes later, we were done eating and were now outside the front porch. Tristan’s driver carried Emily’s suitcases into the trunk of the car, while she looked at me somewhat sad.
“We should hang out something, just the two of us without him,” She said and hugged me.
“Thank you, for being in his life,” She said and pulled from the hug. I looked at her so emotional and unsure of what to say.
“Take care of yourself,” I smiled at her briefly, before waving at her as she got into the car.
“I’ll see you at the office,” I turned to Tristan who was right behind Emily, as I turned around about to leave.
“Or you could join us anyway and we would both go to the office together,” he said a bit hesitant and unsure, but he said it anyway, looking at me with a glimpse of hope in his eyes that I’d say yes. Of course, I would, I wanted to be around him, so I nodded my head and smiled before getting into the car with them. Tristan sat in the front with the driver, while Emily and I sat at the back together.
We finally arrived at the airport, and we were just in time for her flight. She looked at me and pouted her lips like she was about to tear up, while I hugged her again before she did.
“I had such an amazing week,” She looked at the both of us with a smile on her face.
“Thank you Tristan for everything,” she told him, in a teary tone, and engulfed him in a hug..
“Okay, that’s enough big head,” He said and pulled her away while I laughed, staring at them like they were siblings.
“You call me any time, if you need anything,” He told her in all seriousness, and I could tell he cared about her.
“Yes sir,” She did a salute and I covered my mouth, to stop myself from laughing loudly.
“Now off you go, it’s obvious you’re about to be insane,” He said and shooed her away.
“I miss you, even if you wouldn’t say it,” She tells him, and hugs him again, giving him a peg on his cheeks. While he played with her hair as they laughed at each other.
“Byee,” He said again, and she started to drag her suitcase
I almost lost it, I was jealous of that. She could kiss him so freely whereas I could barely do anything to him, or with him. It infuriated me, and I just turned my hands into a fist breathing out slowly.
“Hey, let’s go,” He smiled at me, and I forced a smile on my lips. He opened the door for me, and I got into the car, while he followed suit. We stayed in the backseat silently, both of us busied ourselves with our phones instead of saying anything to each other as we rode to the office.
We arrived at the office, after the longest ride ever. It only felt that way because of the tense air and silence around us in the car. He got down, and before he would offer to help me, I got down from the other side on my own. I didn’t say a word to him and just walked into the company. Emily had gone now, and I knew it was back to our old ways. I wanted to change that starting today, but I need to cool off my head from seeing Emily peg him like that, so easily, very freely like that. I had to get those images from my head and just school it before I temporarily lost it.
I got to my cubicle, leaving him behind and Fido had it in me to walk into the office together. A few minutes later he walked out of the elevator and I fixed my eyes on the monitor, which I hadn’t even turned on yet.
“Could you please make me a coffee,” he requested, as he got close to me.
“Yes sir, ” I responded, without gazing at him. I watched him enter his office before going to the coffee machine, to make his coffee…
I made his coffee just the way he liked it, extra milk and no sugar. Once I was done I knocked on his door, with a small tray in my hands.
“Come in,” I hear him say, and I pushed the door open and walked into his office. I walked to his desk, and carefully placed it on it, before turning around to leave.
“Isabel,” He called out, and I turned around to stare at him.
“Sir,” A little unsure of why he called my name.
“Is everything okay?” He asked me, and I wondered what it meant.
“Is everything okay? Seriously Tristan? Everything is not okay, Emily pegged you, in a friendly way I know but she still put her lips on your face and I watched it,” I said in my thoughts, yelling at him, but in reality, I didn’t say that.
“Everything is fine” I forced a smile on my lips before I left his office. I walked out and returned the tray, before going back to my cubicle.
“Damn it, I need to chill,” I breathe out, and brush my hands over my hair, a little frustrated.
The rest of the day played itself out, I felt a bit better now about the whole Emily situation I let wreck my day. I walked out of the office with Tristan, and he went to answer a phone call, while his driver was about to bring the car to us. I stood there enjoying the breeze that hit my skin, my hair scattered all over my face due to the wind, but I wasn’t bothered at all as I enjoyed every bit of it, with my eyes closed.
And once I opened them, there he was in front of me, causing me to almost stumble at the shock and fright I felt. He smiled and held a flower which he stretched towards me, making me suddenly feel uncomfortable.
“Micah,” I said still catching my breath from the shock he gave me.
“What are you doing here?” I asked him, before receiving the flower reluctantly. I didn’t know why I felt this sudden hostility towards him, unlike when I was excited to have him here.
“I was in the neighborhood, and I wanted to call but didn’t, and then I saw you standing here, and I decided to come say hi?” He smiled as he gave his explanation which I didn’t buy a bit.
“You usually show up at places with flowers?” I looked at him, with a tight smile on my face and he chuckled immediately.
“Okay I’m sorry, I just want to see you, that’s all,” He said nervously, he said and I sighed. I looked at the flower it was a tulip, my favorite. I recall mentioning them in one of our many conversations, and today he brought them, but it didn’t make me happy.
“Thank you,” I said and looked at him, barely smiling.
“You are welcome,” he smiled. I looked at the sky but it was getting dark a bit.
“So, no pressure here,” He clasped his hands together and chuckled staring at me.
“But have you thought about what I said, or you’re still thinking,” he held my palm, and used his thumb to rub on it slowly.
I sighed thinking of what to say to him. I had to tell him the truth but I was worried about how it would make him feel. I was married but then it felt like I led him on again, I thought in my head when I saw Tristan rushing to us, and then Micah landed on the floor as he received a punch from him.
“What the hell?” Micah said, and placed his hands on his nose, staring at the blood on his hands.
“Oh my God,” I shrieked at the sight of blood and turned to Tristan with a glare on my face.
“What the hell was that? Have you gone crazy? “I yelled at him, but his mind was on Micah who had finally managed to rise to his feet.
“Don’t you dare touch my wife, again” He pointed his finger at Micah furiously.
“What are you going to do about it?” Micah seem, to want to piss him off, and I turned to him with a glare on my fave.
“Tristan,” I yelled and jumped in front of him, stopping him from pouncing on Micah. He looked at me and slowly calmed down.
“You come with me,” I pulled Micah away from Tristan and walked into the cafe close to the office.
“Here,” I gave him my handkerchief to clean up his face and hands. He looked at me with a smile on his face, but I didn’t smile back.
“Micah,” I started slowly.
“I’ve made a decision,” his eyes gleamed with joy.
“I’m sorry, but things can’t work out between us,” My voice cracked, but I looked him in the eye and said it.
“It’s because of him right?” He looked at him, sadness suddenly washed all over his face.
“I am married, and no it has nothing to do with him but me,” I told him…
“Bull sh*t, ” That was the first time I have heard him curse. Or said a foul word.
“You like him right? You do have feelings for him? Don’t you?” His voice cracked, he looked at me with the sadness in his eyes and I felt my heart hurt for what in doing to him.
“Yes,” I whispered, as a tear dropped from my eyes.
“I’m sorry,” I added quickly, I didn’t know if it would make a difference or hurt him less, but I said it anyway.
“You don’t have to apologize,” he sniffed and chuckled at the same time.
“They are your feelings after all,” he said and I sniffed.
“Does he treat you right?” He asked me
“He doesn’t even know that I like him,” He laughed a little.
“I’m not going to lie and say I wish you well, or I’m truly happy for you. But I’ll say take care of yourself,” He stated and I nodded my head in acknowledgment.
“So, friends?” I asked and cleaned my eyes with my thumb.
“I’ll need some space and a lot of time to process, but goodbye, and thanks for the handkerchief,” He said and left the cafe, while I sniffed in.
