Dawn’s POV
“Go back home, you bitch! Don’t you know what you’re risking? He’s going to kill you!” Mia rapped into the phone. Her voice is stern and harsh as though she’s speaking across me.
I can imagine the look on her face, and I’m sure that if she’s to be here, she’d have slapped me three times across my pretty face.
I sighed. Bit my lip so hard I can taste something metallic on my tongue.
I’ve got to do this. It’s got to be me.
“Listen, Mia…”
“You listen, you bitch!” She snapped. “Oh please, Dawn. Come to your sense. We risked everything to get you out of there, and now what? You’re going back in there? ”
“I have to do this, Mia. You don’t understand”
“Oh tell me what I don’t understand,” Mia growled. “That you could convince him? Huh? Something you’d done when you were locked up in that silly room of yours!”
Thanks to her! She just makes me feel a load better.
Why can’t she understand? There’s no one better to do this than me, myself.
“I have to go now…”
“Don’t you dare!… Listen, Dawn, this is…”
I cut the call before Mia could complete her sentence.
It’s got to be me. I’ve got to face my Dad.
Palming my hair, I rubbed my palm together, inhaled, and exhaled before I stepped out of the car.
Ethan knew nothing about me coming here, I just feel it’ll be ungrateful of me not to inform Mia about this.
Even though I know this is not the right thing to do.
Facing my father after faking my kidnapped is one thing, but telling him that I’m pregnant for someone else is another thing.
I mentally cursed myself for agreeing with Mia that this is such a bad and lousy idea.
I can turn back now and keep this a secret forever, or I could walk in here to face my angry Dad and face his wrath.
Sucking in another deep harsh breath, I held my chest, trying to calm it down, but it won’t work.
My heart kept racing in my chest, beating so loudly it hurts.
God knows that I don’t wanna be back in this house, no. More than anything, I don’t wanna meet my Dad.
I pulled open the door and entered the room fully.
The sitting room was deserted, and I could turn back and walk out now without anyone noticing I’ve been there, or I could just lock myself in and face whatever it was that awaited me.
“Look who we got here.”
I gasped. My eyes dilated in shock and my heart palpitated loudly.
No! Not that voice.
I shook my head, my eyes watering as I retraced my steps back.
I’d forgotten how his Savage voice haunts me. How it can scare the hell out of me.
No!
“Got released?” Dad snorted.
“I’m…. I’m sorry… no… please…”
I suddenly felt a hand wrapped tightly on my neck, squeezing the breath out of my lung.
I squealed, arms flapping around.
I watched my own life slipping out of my body, black dots floating before me.
I’m dying. I should have listened to Mia.
This is a bad idea.
“Dawn, are you okay?”
I heard a faintly familiar voice, but it was too late already.
I can not survive this
I felt my body going down, surging towards the floor and the floor was ready to accept my limp body…
….
“This is the third day, are you sure she’s okay.”
“Yes, she’s. She’s just in shock.”
“oh no! Dawn…”
Is this the afterlife? Am I dead already?
If so, why am I hearing so much familiar voices? Or did everyone die after me?
I tried to scream, but my voice was low, almost inaudible.
No! I don’t want to be in this darkness.. someone should help me
“Look!”
A scream
“She moved!”
“Really? She did?”
What’s going on?
I felt a soft tug on my wrist, a hand pressing on my face.
“Dawn… are you okay?”
That voice! I know that voice.
I smiled through my sealed lips, blinking open my eyes.
My eyes hurt, the ray of light almost too bright for my eyes that I quickly closed them again.
“Dawn…”
And I’m not dead.
I blinked open my eyes just to be met by a patterned white ceiling.
“OMG! She opened her eyes!”
Ethan
I turned my face to where the voice was coming from, and there stood up, a smile on his pale voice, brightening his haggard face.
Ethan sat on the bed. He held my hand and kissed it lightly.
“You scared me,” he mumbled. “Why did you do that?”
“Can you help me up?”
Placing his hand on the back of my head, and the other on my waist, Ethan guided me up to my butt and rested my body against the pillow.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to” I mumbled
“It doesn’t matter now,” he smiled. “All that matters is that you’re fine.”
I seriously doubt that. Dad will come for me.
My mouth hung open, my sentence got stuck in my throat on sighting the ring that glittered brightly just at the touch of light on his hand.
“Ethan…! What are you doing?”
Ethan grinned nervously. He swiped his tongue over his lips and ran a hand through his hair.
He looks flustered, and if anything, he’s a blushing mess right now.
What is he doing?
“Hmm…” He cleared his throat. “I… don’t know… ah shit!”
“What?”
“Nothing!”
Ethan closed his eyes, momentarily closing and opening them. His chest rose and fell under the thick sweatshirt he wore.
“Will you… Dawn… will… can you… will you marry me?”
I stifled laughter even though I so much want to laugh now.
Seeing him acting like this brings back old memories. He looks different from the once asshole I know.
He’s just Ethan who’s a shy little cute guy.
“Dawn…”
“I don’t know,” I sighed.
Ethan’s face fell, his tensed shoulder sagging down.
“What…?”
“My father, I don’t know if he’s going to let me marry you.”
“Well, unless you want me to disown you for wanting to deprive my grandchild of his own Dad.”
“Dad!” I gasped.
Dad edged closer to me and I did a great job lowering my gaze.
Thank you, but going into another shock is not what I want now.
“You gave me no choice,” Dad sighed. “You have to get married to him”
I didn’t hear wrong, did I?
I raised my head to look into his eyes.
His eyes look blank, same as his expression, making it hard for me to guess what he’s thinking.
“Dad…”
“Now don’t use that tone on me and accept the expensive ring already!” He hissed.
I don’t know how it happened, but I saw myself hugging Dad tight, sobbing on his shoulder.
“Dad… thank you, Dad”
“Well, don’t thank me,” he cleared his throat. “Just make sure he quit being an asshole.”
I grinned.
Dad released me and gave me one wide smile before he stepped away.
Dad looks ten years younger now that he smiled.
How long has it been? probably a decades ago.
I turned to Ethan and flashed him a smile, stretching out my hand.
“Can I have that in my finger already?”
“Oh my!” He exhaled sharply. “You will marry me?”
I nodded with a smile.
Slipping the ring in my hand, Ethan pulled me to himself, covering my lips with his.
“I love you, Dawn Shaw.” He moaned.
“Same can be said for me too, Ethan Miller.”
I grinned.
“Just don’t go around hiding people in your room to give you a head.”
“I got you,” he winked. “I’m addicted only to your mouth.”
